Щиро дякую за Ваші відеогайди. Дуже допомогли. У родичів є ноутбук Asus X551MA. Розумію, що ноутбук 2014 року, бюджетний для MS office та інтернету. Більше родичам і не потрібно. Але зараз і ноутбуку і рідним важко стало. Задумувався, підвисав ноутбук. А завдяки Вашим відео досить легко замінив HDD на SSD, планку RAM DDR3L 4GB замінив на 8GB. Нову батарею встановив. І ноутбук ожив. Приємно працювати за ним і ще на декілька років вистачить. Також дякую за комплекти інструментів HowFixit. За якістю нічим не гірше за брендовий набір iFixit, але при цьому мінімум в 2 рази коштують дешевше!

Fantastically thorough tear down video. I'm really intrigued by the CPU cooling on this. A huge dedicated fan is supplied with nearly no heat sink. I guess a giant fan is a cheaper solution than more metal surface. With EQ the speakers on this are BOSS! The CD expansion slot option is great too. You can use this for a HD add-on with a converter too. Thanks

Hey, could you help facing a problem with mine machine- same model. It just doesnt boot, when i switch it on it makes an attempt to boot briefly with dvd drive sound then it ends there. Led for battery is ok and on trying to switch it on, it gives that power good signal (LED) briefly and its off. The LCD screen doesnt even switch on, no error message or anything. No other sound except the dvd drive krrrr sound (faint). I have used this video to dissambly it and cleaned RAM, removed and reset HDD,

I have an X551MAV that I got as a gift about 1.5 years ago. It was SO frustrating to use due to the slowness in loading anything. But after watching this (& a few other) videos, I was able to take my unit apart & stick in an SSD (also installed a clean W10). That, alone, has made it more peppy. But I'm still curious about the RAM. Can it be upgraded to 8GB, and if so, what brand/type of stick should I get? After all, if I have to remove the motherboard to upgrade, I'd like to do it only once.

I had a problem with powering on this machine, thought it was the battery, but I got a 4 dollar Multimeter at Harbor freight and tested the charger output - it was dead, had an old laptop battery and checked the output, after watching a vid on YTube = and the range fell into the V and W of the charger for the asus - thing works great again, no need to disassemble and do that battery discharge thing - gonna get a SSD today - on sale at tiger for 69 bucks (250GB) and install it....may try the RAM upgrade as well, some good info below - 1 stick 8GB with parameters listed in other comments looks like it may work! heck these laptops were on sale for $149...so its a throw away item if it craps out

there is only one memory slot, so no dual DDR type setup here although I replaced the 4 gb stick in mine for an 8 gb stick I bought from crucial, and replaced the HD for an SSD...and that's about it for this model, My old Acer laptop had a CPU in a socket just like a desktop which I replaced for a faster CPU. unfortunately, most of these 'economy' notebooks have their CPU hard soldered to the Motherboard, I suppose its all about money and to install a socket would cost more. Shame.

Roberta Graham he removes the battery at 5:45 all you need to do is open it up also here is no screws holding the battery so its easy to take off

I would like to disassembly mine because it souds weird when is working mostly when I'm carrying it around to move it from one place to another it sounds like some kind of plastic or paper is being hit inside, I'm supposing it's the fan that makes that noise or maybe the hard drive... gonna find out what it is, anyone has experimented something like this?

I opened it up and indeed there were little plastic and paper pieces inside the netbook, maybe the assemblers left them there now no more noises :D

processor in laptop that u can see in the video is intergrated in motherboard, there is no socket as it usual can see and u can't just take it off and place another with same socket.

awesome figured this laptop was a pain to upgrade and this is proof. best upgrade would be a ssd. memory is more then enough. if you look in your task bar its always the slow drive holding it back. 4gb ram is more then enough. you cant game on this so for daily tasks 4gb of ram is more then enough. a ssd would totally change this computer.

Just got one of these for dirt cheap, probably gonna throw in an SSD, was hoping to upgrade the CPU but it's embedded, blah. Oh well, an SSD would do wonders. Explains why the speakers suck so badly, they're buried under the damn keyboard! Man I hate the modern era of laptop design. Anyway, thanks for the video. Crazy that there isn't any real heatsink in the thing, and it doesn't get that hot either.

hi, i didn't replaced dvd drive for blu ray myself, but i think if you find blue ray drive the same size as your dvd drive it will work (maybe you should to install driver for the blue ray drive)

It's standard size and has a standard laptop Sata connector. No modifications were made by the manufacturer. It's modular, meaning you can buy any standard laptop blue-ray drive and put it in it's place. The cover/bezel can be removed and put onto the new blue-ray if needed.

nope, the GPU properties is taken from the CPU which has graphics capabilities built in up to HD level, hence the HDMI port allowing you to connect to your 1080p TV. There is no discrete or hard soldered GPU

there is no video card, its intel hd graphics, built into the chip which is soldered to the motherboard. all you can upgrade is the hard drive and the ram.

I've upgraded either RAM (from 4 to 8 giga) and replaced that slow hard disk with a SSD. I cannot do anything else, the only way is buy a new and performant PC. With Linux performances are average, with Windows 10 sometimes is terrible.

Not only does the design of the X551M/MA make simple tasks difficult, but there's very little room to upgrade anything. The CPU is embedded (SoC) and only has single channel memory (one SO-DIMM slot).. Which doesn't really matter since the board, according to ASUS, only recognizes 4GB anyway. How does a company that makes decent desktop boards go so wrong?

it's a pain but you will have to disassemble as per video but keep all connected, just remove battery and then hold down the start key for at least 30 seconds (you must have battery and charger DISSCONNECTED when you hold down the start button, there is a video on here done by a kid who demonstrates this being done on this very model!

The cooling system is different but IT IS SO LOUD. I cannot my lap top my jet engine. Would it have been that bad to just put a heat sink on the thing to cool it down more and not have the fan run constantly at high speed. Seriously duck tape two wings to this and it will take off.

What a moronic way to build a laptop. All I want to do is upgrade the RAM. That should be just a hatch that you unscrew and put the new module in. Instead I have to screw around with the entire motherboard and risk messing something else up. Not to mention the battery is still in there somewhere, completely connected, and risking electric shock.

Tootses2 Gaming Perhaps you weren't paying attention, either to my comment or the video. I own the laptop in question. I've added RAM to other laptops that have the hatch you describe. This isn't one of them. It has a solid base construction. You have to unscrew the entire base, remove the keyboard, disconnect various connectors, disconnect the battery, and get to the underside of the motherboard before you even see the RAM.

Just a note for anyone having issues with the power button: Not sure what caused it, but to wake or start up my laptop, I have to squeeze the frame just below the power button with my thumb and fingers underneath. It's as if the trigger slipped under the frame... which I will correct, if I can, when I go to upgrade to 8gb RAM in a week or so. I post this in case anyone is having an issue with starting their machine, as who knows if this is a common issue.

Ozancan Yılmaz imo the most common reason that slows laptop is: 1st - bad cooling system work (when it cluttered with the dust or when termal compound is dry); 2nd - bad OS working (viruses, lot of useless tray programms, etc).

as a pc gamer my destop never even goes past 2gb of ram unless i game. so for all you wanting to upgrade the ram your crazy. start at the source the hdd.

Andrei Herghelegiu depending on circumstances: games may work bad becouse of lack of laptop capacity, or becouse of bad laptops condition

How-FixIT Well i bought it a couple of days ago. They are runningpretty well on medium-low configs (constant 30 fps), but i think they can run better with some tricks. As an example, considering the fact that the graphics are integrated, will adding more ram or close some processes from the background improve it?

Andrei Herghelegiu the first thing that even if GPU is intergrated in MB it may have it's own video memory, second that adding more RAM will improve systems power in any way, so it can really help, and the last - closing process can help if that is really big programs as like video editor (that use a lot of RAM) etc, with closing some little tray program you won't help your laptop a lot

I have the x553m; when I turn it on the green power light comes on but nothing else, I can't hear the fan, the screen is completely blank (no display). The only thing that seems to be working is the power light and the DVD player opens. I have not opened the laptop yet. Can you tell me what to look at when I do open it? My guess was that the issue was the motherboard but I'm hoping it could be something else
