www.dslrfilmnoob.com/2012/07/1... The Asus Zenbook ux32vd laptop has been my editing laptop for almost a year and I've been pretty happy with it. With the ram upgrade and an SSD it can handle most of my mobile editing needs. I started out with a 256GB SSD, but once you install an OS, Adobe CC, and a few other apps you're only left with about 100GB to deal with actual footage. Up until now I've gotten by with 500GB and 1TB usb 3 portable drives, but know that SSDs are dropping in price I've decided to upgrade the ux32vd to a 500GB Samsung 840 EVO SSD.
I should have some speed tests up soon. When I do, i'll add them to this videos description. In early tests the 840 EVO is remarkably fast and Samsung's RAPID mode really pushes things forward.
You can find the drive i'm installing here: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00E...

Just wanted to thank you for this great video - I was a little apprehensive when it came to changing the disk drive in my UX32LA because of the slim form factor etc., however your video showed me that it's quite straightforward. There were only a couple of minor differences in the process for the UX32LA, and the 5400RPM HDD that it shipped with was a definite bottleneck in the system. Swapped it out for an OCZ Agility SSD and boot time is literally a handful of seconds. Thanks again!

Is it possible for you to give your suggestions on a capable laptop or desktop that can handle using things like sony Vegas and Lightroom within a $400-500 range that you could find at like frys..something that could be upgraded later if I need be..

Hi, thank you. BTW a Samsung SSD 850 EVO Series 250GB will do a good job?

I want to do this but have a question. I hate win 8.1, so when I use the clone software can I copy the files/programs only or do I have to install the ssd, install win 7 and then reload my software?

This software that is included, is it easy to use? Someone who haven't been assembling computers or playing arround a lot with computer software? What Cable do you need to have in order to use it? And do you need a cd player? THe ux32vd doesn't have one?

Would it work with a 1Tb big drive as well?

I went crazy with my laptop. My desktop sucks and i have a great job where i can work on my laptop all day so i got a desktop replacement. I ended up getting the MSI GT70 2Oc-408us from Xotic PC and i am pretty freaking happy. This thing is a true beast. I put in the same ssd as you except i just went with the 250gb.

If the price on the 840 EVO's drop below $500 on the 1TB model I'll probably put one in my desktop editing bay. The EVO's RAPID mode is pretty amazing.
@c0pyimitati0n
@c0pyimitati0n 10 лет назад
I don't know anything about a rapid mode. But i woukd like to get a couple msata ssd drives and use 1 for programs and 1 just for my cache files and I have a 7200rpm 1 TB HDD for storage. This thing is heavy but I don't really need to take it into the field. But it renders probably 15x faster than my home PC hahaha.
@onelonedork
@onelonedork 10 лет назад
You can set up RAPID mode in Samsungs magician app. It basically use 1 gig of system memory to buffer SSD writes and reads. I've been seeing writes and reads in the 900 MB/s range, it's pretty amazing. The Zenbook renders at about 1/8th to 1/15th the speed of my desktop, but then my desktop is a pretty monstrous system. For editing and not overly complex timelines the Zenbook works great. If I start needing to render out a lot of effects and 5 or 6 channels of video I move the project over to my desktop. How much does that MSI weigh in at?
@c0pyimitati0n
@c0pyimitati0n 10 лет назад
8.6 lbs plus the biggest power brick I have ever seen, and it probably weighs about 5 or 6 lbs. I don't mind though because I shoot music videos and the latest video that I shot had 19 different video channels and it handled it like cake work. I was really impressed.
@c0pyimitati0n

My power brick is only a couple pounds. I over judged.

Don't know if you read comments here by now. But thanks for a great video. Have this laptop and have already changed the RAM which really speed it up. Now I want to upgrade to SSD. But since it's been a while since you did it, can you recommend any particular SSD regarding quality and price? I live in Sweden. Thanks again for a great tutorial.

Remember which screw was in which hole. They sometimes don't fit the same in all the holes (even if they look exactly the same). So in a different hole the screw will not end up completely flush!
@onelonedork
@onelonedork 10 лет назад
I must have gotten very lucky, every screw went back in just fine. They did all look the same.

It should be mentioned that before you do any of this, you need to take of your socks and any fleece clothing items and touch something metal to ground yourself, ensuring you don't static shock your laptop when it's uncovered and that you don't build up any charge while working.
@onelonedork
@onelonedork 10 лет назад
Be in "charge" of static. Ok so I actually laughed when i thought of that.

Hi there, actually i got a question for ya, i got the same pc and it has 500g HDD + 24g SDD The question is did u upgraded the low sdd for a huge 500 one or did u replace the 500 HDD with an 500 SSD Thx a lot man...
@WisteriaBerlitz
@WisteriaBerlitz 7 лет назад
Mourad Kerkeni your comment may be 9 months old but I'm gonna reply just in case you haven't found the answer. This laptop could only store a single 2.5" drive and what you have is a hybrid SSHD. (Hard drive with a small amount of solid state in it)

Does that laptop support the GPU acceleration Adobe uses for the mercury playback engine?
@onelonedork
@onelonedork 10 лет назад
Yes the 1GB NVIDIA Geforce GT 620M works automatically in adobe CC, if you are using an older version like CS6 you'll have to add the GPU to the supported card list text file (mercury playback hack) in order to get MPE working.
@EdEditz

onelonedork Oh that is cool. My Acer didn't support it so I built my own desktop machine instead. But it would be nice to have a smaller laptop for on the fly editing.
