Finally got around to replacing the intel 6235 with the killer 1202 (this is the one that the alienware laptops use). The reason why I replaced the card was because of frequent dropouts and slow connection speeds. I initially tried upgrading drivers, swapping routers and disabling a bunch of options, but no luck. After the upgrade, the wireless is working flawless.
In the video, I do mention a soldering option. This is a theory; I haven't tried it to see if it works because my "tape" method works for now. If the tape method starts to come apart, I may consider soldering the wires to the wifi adapter since I know it will work together.
Also note that this should be done from a fresh install. When I initially got the card installed, I had bluetooth driver conflicts with the intel bluetooth driver/suite. I can't remember if I tried uninstalling it, but in the end I ended up doing a format and a fresh install.

I just taped the connector directly onto the contacts. Remember that the contacts on the killer are larger than the original ones, so remove the ring around the connector on the killer and try to place the connectors as best as you can onto the remaining pin. It will teeter because the pint won't fit into the connectors hole. That's why I used two sided tape to make the contact larger then I tapped it down.

You're right. Because of the high heat, the tape will get very sticky and nasty. But the tape is only on the wifi adapter, so I don't really care. Also, with a little goo gone, that will remove all stickiness. A solder solution is a more secure solution, and I think it would be better, but remember, you're going to have to cut the contacts off the wire. That means if it doesn't work, you're in trouble because you'll have to replace the whole antenna. It's been 8 months, and the mod is holding up

when I started, I actually did it by accident. The killer wireless rings were soldiered at only one point and the ring wasn't solid, so my initial though was to use tweezers to squeeze the ring and make it smaller. Well, it didn't quite do that. Instead, it popped off. So I guess to remove them, just use tweezers and keep trying to pull it off. It's not a connector, so it doesn't really matter. Just be gentle not to hit other things.

Have you tried replacing the adapter? If you have and you're still experiencing problems, the connectors may not be set properly. Remember, even though windows detects the wireless, that doesn't mean that the antennas are connected. As to how you know if it's on correctly, you have to kind of feel around and do lots of trial and error. It took me a couple of tries which is why I did not post a video of me trying and failing a bunch of times.

I bought it off of ebay. One other thing you have to consider is that you will lose WiDi, but I rather have a stable connection rather than wireless video streaming.

So, i've posted over at notebook review forum as well the folks there have pointed out that the connector is not a W.FL, but rather a MHF4. They provide the p/n for the correct socket. I've picked up a few of th ecorrect connector and swapped them onto an intel AC card (7260.HMW). I have also picked up a handfull of spare 7260.HMW's and will do the connector swap on them. Since it is using a same/similar chipset as the orignal device, and the same/similar driver, it may have simlar issues. However it does have Linux compatiblity for AC, which is what I was after. I would be happy to look at swapping out sockets on someone's card if they want as a service for something like 20 bucks.

Rocking the 32VD in 2019, I think the wifi is alright. 300mbps works for me on win 10, I remember the wifi was slow when I was on WIn7 back in the day.

Godd stuff, congrat. Master just a question: does the WIDI work after changing 6235?

I couldn't find one, but I didn't look too hard. Some people were saying that you could just replace the antenna, but that was way too much work; the antenna is located at the hinges of the screen.

Hi Malfunkshen! Great video. I'm having issues with the same damn Intel Centrino adapter in my UX32VD. I think I might want to upgrade to the Killer card. 5 months on, how is the tape solution holding up?

I used electrical tape, and with the heat that this laptop produces, I think it's melted the glue on. I don't think it's going anywhere. It's still working flawlessly, although, if I ever have to remove it, It's going to be really nasty.

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS FINIALLY! DAMN INTEL 6235 for my ASUS zenbook sucks ASSSSSS!! Everyone in my library who have macs have been getting assume signal, while mines is garbage, I kept trying to update my drivers, no change...SOOOO many people are having issues with the intel 6235 wifi adapter. THANKS BRO I WILL BUY ONE NOW! I was seriously going to try to sell my ultrabook and get a macbook air because of this problem. PROBLEM SOLVED, although i still like the touchpad on apples better

thank you for your fast reply. yes replacing the antenna is a lot of work. i am planning buying and "old" intel 5100 (the one i have on my toshiba) that works reeeealy well, i dont mind loosing bluetooth, and hope the connectors of the antena are the same size. I still cant bealive how intel released such a shity product, because at 1st i thought it was samsung problem, but a lot of brands are having problems with the 6235.

Is this a difficult process? Because I don't want to screw anything up. It seems like it works fine in your video so hopefully it'll work just fine

This looks good. I have the same Asus UX32VD I have replaced the HDD with SSD and upped the RAM. I replaced my router thinking that was the problem but still having the flakey connection. what are your thoughts on getting 450mbs card or 802.11ac card? If I am upgrading why not get faster speed out of it.

Malfunkshn, isn't the taping solution a messy outcome in the long run (glue all over other sensitive components)? Would you recommend soldering as a more permanent and clean alternative? How risky is it to solder it?

Thanks for the video! I watched this several months ago and have been waiting until a wireless AC card is available. I have just found the Intel 7620HWM. I think I will give it a try with that card. Do you know if it will work?

Hey! Thanks for the great video :-) I am facing the same speed issued with the crappy Intel WiFi card. I got the Killer wifi card but have not been successful with the installation :( As you mentioned, the pins on the Killer card are bigger and the antenna connector won't fit. I tried taping, but they come loose :( Do you have any suggestions? I have the skills to solder the contacts but I am away from home for a few months and I don't want to spend money on solder equipment. Thanks :-)

Nice video! I was wondering if there was a network card that would have the same size connectors and would fit right in the Asus UX32VD? Maybe another Intel card? I'm not comfortable with electronics and I would prefer to change de card without having to play with the connectors... Any thoughts? Thank you

as long as the connector is touching the pin. But for my "tape" solution, it's held out for a while now. I'm sure all the glue is melted on and it looks gross, but goo gone can fix that if I want to return it back to stock. I'm always paranoid about making modifications to my hardware.

i'm gonna try it on some cheap cards then try it with one I really want. I'm considering some wireless AC cards, but that killer 1102 also looks like a good option.

Hi, did you just tape the antenna connector to the card connector? Or did you modify one of the connectors before?
@FLyyyT_
@FLyyyT_ 10 лет назад
i'm thinking you can carefully remove a piece of the ring to allow the antenna to set, then crimp the rest of the ring around the connector. Then you can tape it for extra support. Thoughts?

hello, i have bought a samsung np700 with the same intel card, is RUBISH, i am unable to tranfer files trough the network because the conection drops :S Is there any card that comes with the same size of U.FL as the intel?? because i dont want to tape it.
@ahsengah

I ended up buying an Intel 6300 to replace my 6235, however turns out the 6300 also has larger holes, so my antennas couldn't fit. How did you remove the rings? I was looking at it and it seems like the ring is quite solid. Thanks

What type of connector is on this 6235 card? It's another type. I am trying to find a wifi card that will fit in plug and play

The Killer 1202 is quite hard to find here... Do you know if the Atheros AR5B22 card is a good replacement for the Intel 6235?
@Malfunkshen
@Malfunkshen 10 лет назад
I think any card will be better than the intel card. I purchased mine off of ebay because I can't find wifi cards around here either. I can't remeber, but I think the killer comes with bluetooth, so make sure your wifi adapter comes with bluetooth or you'll end up removing that.

has anyone tryed the Intel 7260HMW ?
@camdenlindsay9272
@camdenlindsay9272 10 лет назад
I'm using it currently on linux with an archer C7. It does have high speed near the router, but connection speed certainly still varies some a room or two away. Getting much better connectivity to the A/P in my attic genreally (50 megabit vs 20 with the old network card) but it sometimes drops to the teens. I've bought a few extra 7260HMW's to swap out sockets on and sell, if you'd be interested.
