ASUS Zephyrus M15 Review - This 1660 Ti Breaks Records!

I am not even looking for a laptop anymore. I just love watching Jarrod videos!

Even though I have already bought gaming laptop half year ago, and your videos really helped me out, I am still watching because it's great content. Keep on keeping on!

Pros: 1) light weight gaming laptop with good build quality and appropriate pricing. 2) Temps never exceeds 80 degree Celsius during gaming, (min 70 , max 80 , average 75) in "silent" profile. 3) The silent profile works really good, this is probably the quietest gaming laptop with temps never exceeding 80 degree Celsius, one should be able to easily game on it without a headphone. 4) The keyboard layout is good, the keys are ok (similar to the old MacBook air) but are nothing compared to a thinkpad keyboard (Lenovo thinkpads have the best keyboard period!). Cons: 1)Terrible trackpad, using the trackpad for windows gestures etc feel really terrible. 2) The coil whine on this laptop is above normal, it sounds like it has a HDD inside, instead of an SSD, one can hear it when opening a browser etc. 3) The fans on "silent" mode (without AC) keeps running at all times (22. 9 db loudness) even on idle, which is not loud but, can be annoying to some people, especially for someone who has used a MacBook or any quite windows Ultrabook. 4) No excuse or logic for not including a webcam. 5) Asus "armoury crate" UI looks ugly (Subjective), the UI design could be made lot simpler by removing the unnecessary gamer aesthetic, also it doesn't let you create a manual fan curve without AC power. A small honest review as an owner of this laptop.

Just bought the 2020 version with the 2070 max Q model. Thank you for your hard work. You've helped me alot over the last few days.

Just sold mine a few months ago when the budget was a little tight, this was my first gaming PC (laptop obviously) but it ran perfectly for everything i wanted to do with it. WarThunder, Hell let loose, squad, FiveM.. etc I would happily pick one up again. Even now in 2023. I may have a dumb opinion but i think these specs still hold strong.

Its only the fastest due to its pre-overclock though. If you overclocked other 1660ti and 2060 laptops especially the 115w ones they will easily beat the zephyrus. I understand why you use the pre-overclocks as it's representative of the performance a user can easily apply that but at the same time I feel its misleading to say that it's the fastest or it beats other laptops with the same or higher tier graphics. Perhaps you can include both the regular and oc results in the multi-laptop comparisons?

Whenever I listen to the typing sounds on these reviews (2:36), it always sounds like a heavy rain. Jarrod should put out a track of him typing as white noise to fall sleep to :D

Wow, quite the laptop and great review as always. However, I would probably buy a laptop with 2070 (like the Eluktronics Mag-15) for that price, as there are likely better ones for the price. Also Jarrod, will you ever be reviewing the 2020 Zephyrus GX701? (with either the 2070 super 115w or the 2080 super max-q) I would really be interested in seeing them, as like the Zephyrus Duo, the CPU also uses liquid metal.

Lack of webcam and not getting completely silent in light tasks, are deal breakers for me. That being said, it is a greatly performing laptop for its thickness! Keep up the good, quality work, Jarrod!

Great review as always Jarrod, Asus has been putting out good machines lately, though the lack of webcam is a strange decision in these times. I'm looking forward to CES and seeing what nVidia, AMD, and manufacturers will put out for the laptop market in 2021, can't wait to see you and the other Jarrod review those!

My 240hz Zephyrus M15 only has backlight bleed in the top left corner. The space bar also works perfectly at any point I press.

I have the same laptop, it's crazy hot, while playing Witcher 3 it gets to 95c on CPU on Turbo profile in Armour Crate.

You aren't the only one who has the spacebar issue, it doesn't work on that extended part, which completely kills the point of that part.

Waiting for a replacement of my 2019 helios 300. A ryzen 5000 series with the mobile version of the current gen gpus is where my money will be. Excellent and entertaining review as always

Design-wise, that fact that there isn't even a nose cam at the screen's bottom to speak of makes that eyesore of a bottom bezel inexcusable.

Jarrod, . Just to throw out an idea to you. One requirement for me is the heat on the underside of the laptop as well. I'm not sure if it's easily measured, but some laptops will burn me when actually using it in my lap. For example, the old Alienware M17 R1 would literally cause burns on your legs. I'm not sure how the center of the keyboard temperature translates, but It would be great if this could be included! Either way, I appreciate the great content!

I don't understand the RAM stuff. In the base model there's 16GB, plus a single free slot?, is that it? So you can upgrade another 16gb 3200hz? I'm planning to buy the next iteration of this laptop, when RTX 3000 series for laptops launches, and I reallyyyy need dual channel memory.

Hey mate I'm from aussie too and just wanna ask you, what's with the massive price hike with all these laptops over here? Or am I just completely missing the mark, not this one but another laptop similar is USD$1500 and a crazy $AUD3500. Is this just me missunderstanding and maybe looking at different setups or do you find it Abit the same? Hey, Jarrod, how long (years) would you say such a laptop should last? So, I got my M15 1660 Ti on August 2020, and now, on June 2022, it's still running great! Some months ago I tried installing a 1TB SSD but accidentally fried the motherboard (tried using pliers to get out the empty slot's screw which wouldn't come off... and it contacted and sparked with the board) but, since it was under warranty (about a week remaining!), ASUS replaced the motherboard and also properly installed the 1TB SSD that was in the laptop. So, this baby is still running great for me! I had purchased other gaming laptops too within the last year but ultimately returned them as I didn't really need them - for my moderate to heavy gaming, this M15 with the 1660 Ti works amazingly! So, how many years would you say one is "supposed to" or "should" try to hold onto his/her gaming laptop?

what is the CPU temperature during CPU-only stress tests? what's the TDP in those tests? As I suppose the liquid metal is only applied to the CPU, not the GPU. Also, GPU undervolting is a must on this laptop, given how heavily it's throttling.

I just bought this laptop new for $1100. Im debating whether I should return it for the RTX 3060 Asus Tuf or just keep it. The only problem I have with it is it doesn't come with a miniDP and I wish it had one more USB-C port.

How peculiar. This version(Intel) has unblocked vents and the 144hz display has good colour accuracy unlike the g15(Amd) which has the vents blocked and the shitty panda 144hz display

thanku for ur advice , with my budget i finally bought 1080p 240hz version and i m happy also , decent gaming and above average content creation work , first gaming machine i m using , before this i had a office laptop with 820m gpu and i used to play csgo on that machine , jumping from 40 fps to over 240fps is a great gap for me :)

Do you need to overclock to get RAM speeds of 3200MHz with the 10875? Intel's website says it only supports up to 2933Hz.

That backlight bleed is too bad already and the space bar with extension does not even register a click on that like my G14

m15 desain have a good design, the only problem is the bezel on below was too thick and didnt have webcam on it, i hope g15 can make the design using ryzen series procie.

Will there be MacBook Pro level silent at idle, ~2kg, all the necessary ports are on the left, 16:10 screen with 1440 like resolution, USB-C on the left with PD, with compact keyboard gaming laptop? They put page down, up on a row, shifting keyboard left. Even worse they add never used numpad, put USB-C on right, run fans unnecessarily and call it "silent".. Everything is half baked though.. When external monitor is directly connected to nVidia, you will have stutter on office works when you connect the monitor.. To solve the problem you should only use nVidia and that means even lower battery time.. Etc. Etc.. It looks like ultrabook + desktop is the way to go..

Should I get this model with 240Hz or rog strix g15 ryzen 7 3060 144Hz??

This laptop runs hot my i7 10750H CPU goes to 4.5ghz and the CPU temps are close to 80c. My PC has an i7 4790k and at the same speed it never goes over 50c with an air cooler.

Would be interesting to compare it with msi gs66 with same (except gpu as far as i remember) specs AND Liquid metal in both laptops.
