Mondino Salah Another owner here, the hinge itself is extremely sturdy but that plate has some weird flex so if you are planning to use it on your lap put it in a “comfortable position”, put both legs on the sides of the plate. Don’t put a leg in the center of the plate.
This video convinced me to get one back in early 2020, 3 years later I'm still using the very same laptop with no issues. I've been quite happy with my purchase. Thank you, Jarrod. Such a great, in depth review!
Still alright. I am mostly using it connected to a 27inch 1440p 144hz gaming monitor with mouse, keyboard, Bluetooth speaker and/or headset desk setup. Playing jedi survivor atm on 1440p low to mid settings 40-60fps on average dipping hard down to 28-30fps on central Koboh, outer Koboh it is fine. I’ve downloaded Ghost of Tsushima Director’s cut and planing to play it next gave it a go and it seems it performs better than Jedi survivor as EA after a year still did not completely fixed the optimisation issues with the game. Overall it is hard to believe but after 4 and a half years of use I still see very little argument for upgrading to a current gen one as it just simply works fine for me. I am used to 1440p 40-70fps depending on the game, or higher on 1080p (laptop’s original screen resolution is 1080p). I played 1080p 30fps on PlayStation for ages so 1440p 40-70fps on current triple A games is perfect fine in my books. I also tinker around with playnite and emulations, it plays swith games better than I play on my switch, ps3, xbox360 and any other emulator plays quite well. I really don’t see any point to get a new laptop as of late 2024 as long as it keeps working.
Hey Jarrod. Love the detail in these reviews. I purchased this laptop about 1 week ago, still evaluating it myself. Have the full spec model with 240hz display. I played some game sessions with it, which was Wolfenstien and Control, when i checked the temps after approx 20mins, using the Asus Armory Crate my temps where around the 70-80 on the CPU and GPU was around 60-70, this is not much detail for anyone, but for a casual game session like i use it for i was really impressed. I also had a VR session with my Oculus Rift S connected to it, and it ran awesome. I found the Turbo mode really good. I use a laptop riser, not a cooling pad, but found the riser keeps it up with good air flow. So far i really like the machine, only annoyance i had was the manufacturer stickers , but once i removed those, it looks clean AF, and a real smart looking machine. I prefer this over the Razer and new Alienware line, but that's subjective. If you are looking for shear game performance this thing is brilliant.
Hi friend. I'm getting mine with Conductonaut as the thermal paste soon. I hope I get better temps or play at a higher resolution with temps below the 90s.
@@Cali_90s While gaming my temps on the CPU never go over 74-75, they seem to stay consistent when gaming around 75 on the CPU, and the GPU never seems to go over 65. That's my experience anyway. This machine manages the temps really well. Just make sure to keep some good air ventilation around the machine and in the room, or area, you are using it when under heavy load like gaming, as from my experience it does expel a lot of hot air, as it does a good job of removing the heat from the machine, and soon warms your room up, lol. If you can position it near an open window, or place a small desktop cooling fan near the rear of the machine while under heavy load i think it will help improve temps over time.
@@markbush9104 good to know. I'll see how it handles when I max out all the settings. I'm really interested in seeing fps above 144 on the 240hz panel. I'll update you once I get the laptop.
@@Cali_90s I was playing Control yesterday and Minimum FPS was 60. Average FPS was about 70-90, and max FPS was 120 FPS - 122 FPS. Mostly max settings. I left RTX off tho, as wasn't bothered by that. Suppose it depends on the game. Let us know how you get on with your machine.
Considering review ing the Eluktronics Mag 15 / XMG Fusion 15 please? I am sure lots of people are interesting YOUR review of that laptop since you do the best reviews!!
Unfortunately I cannot get it at the moment. They are based in the US and I'm in Australia, and return shipping costs a fair bit of money for me to borrow it. It will likely be available here rebranded by some other company I suspect, then it may be possible. Otherwise if Eluktronics are happy to cover the cost of sending it here I am more than happy to test it out on the channel.
@@JarrodsTech Or actually ask how many viewers would want the laptop reviewed and if we can donate like 1 dollar each to cover the costs for the return shipping!!!
Could well be graphics driver updates, game performance patch updates and earlier bios version. He mentioned in the vid about graphics drivers impacting performance.
scar is just older design.... that why....(as first gen owner) but i would not buy any of them until they did a better quality version. what will happen is the plastic will creak the adapter plug with break...(not cover under warranty) the heat will rise overtime...(I got feeling they used cheaper battery support to cut cost.) Just no... RTX2070 sound good... at first but RTX2060 would do the similar job.... with lower price... and we coming to the end of the year... next year they just going to refresh new one again....
@@anuragnaidu4772 3700SGD. Quite expensive, yes. But worth the price in every way. Good RTX/ GSync setup for the next 2 years (would've said 4 but at the rate CPU's heating up, I will give it 3 at the most with my rate of use - unless we find a proper under volt solution).
I own this model w/32gb ram + 240hz and i can attest that tb3 is my only gripe... the logo wasn't appealing but i happily discovered it glows really dim. It's kind of a dar tinted red-orange, doesn't look bad very subtle.
@@Niels_f2704 it's far dimmer than the Apple Logo on the Macbook Pro I came from... I'm comparing the two right now and side by side, i'd say it's about 20% dimmer than the apple logo when both are at full brightness. At the lowest brightness, it's barely emitting a glow at all.
You're such a great reviewer! You go into so much detail and give great, non-bias comparisons between different devices. You've been a huge help for me personally with deciding on a laptop that best suits my needs. 💻 You deserve so many more subs, keep up the great work!
From my experience, no impact provided decent materials used. My previous laptop was an HP dv5 with 9600m gt (yeah old) which I thrashed for 6 years, and it's still going. You could almost cook an egg on the left palm rest. Very uncomfortable, but reliable nevertheless. My current laptop is an Asus ROG g751jy and that has also been thrashed daily for the last 3 years with cpu living at 90C and GPU 80C daily. No problems with either. However if the materials are deficient, like the old 8600m GT which couldn't handle many heat cycles before the solder cracked (problem with multiple laptop brands), then yeah you've got a time bomb that no amount of keeping cool will remedy anyway.
Hello Jarrod and Jarrodlievers, I just wanted to say thank you Jarrod for your reviews I bought this laptop and I am loving it. Still, I had to return it because the fans were doing a noise (like a whistle) and it was very annoying. They took 2 and a half weeks to return it, but now it is perfect. Performance, build structure, esthetics, and screen are great! for now, I recommend buying this laptop, I will update over time whenever someone asks. Cheers.
Thanks so much for the content! Bought this model with 240hz a few weeks ago and had been eagerly waiting for your reviews. I agree it's one of the highest performance laptops out there on the market right now, I just worry about it's longevity due to it's temperatures. Regardless, I'm extremely happy with it's performance and makes my GPU rendering and gaming experience a treat.
Pls review the ASUS Zephyrus M GU502GU! And also investigate the two m.2 slots? I heard one of them supports pcie x4 and the other one supports only pcie x2.
I got GU502 last week. They do have almost the same design. The second M.2 slot support PCIE*4, so no worries. I think the model that only PCIE*2 was Zephyrus G, not M.
I came back here as I’m excited for the AMD Ryzen 7 version. Gonna use this as a school and work laptop, but as a gaming laptop at home or on vacation. I look forward to a review on that one, keep up the good work!
I have said this before.... I own this model. Very elegant, very classy, very fast, ridiculously light for a gaming machine. Very well build. Magnesium alloy chase is outstanding. Charging with power bank is cool. Best portable gaming. This is not a cheap machine but boyyy it is so good.
@@muhammadandikaajran5687 -125mv undervolt no throttling although as Jarod said this laptop is hot during long gameplay sessions. But every slim gaming notebook is, soo this is rather normal.
@@hubert3637 As long as there's no throttling, I'm good. I don't mind the hot surface and besides, I live in a relatively cold area, somewhere around 10-15 Celcius. So, I guess it should've helped a bit. Thx for the reply though. Gonna get this beast of a machine somewhere around February to April next year
i own a similar GX502 with only 16gb ram and a 240hz monitor Pros of having this laptop: 1) high performance cpu + gpu 2) great keyboard and touchpad IMO, 3) great 240hz monitor but not many games can reach 240fps. 4) somewhat light and portable but u always have to carry the AC adapter around unless u switch to garbage optimus mode. ( i get around slightly over 3hrs of battery life just by doing coding tutorials in lectures on discrete graphics mode) Cons: 1) bad thermals when gaming (even on turbo profile, i get 90+degrees on cpu for a game like destiny 2) 2) needs alot of tinkering with profile settings in order to get better performance 3) Asus software is literally garbage, my optimus wasnt working properly, while it worked sometimes, on most other occasions it will run games on intel HD graphics instead of the RTX 2070. 4) the keyboard LEDs cant be customized individually (failure on Asus part mostly) 5) the features in Asus armory crate aren't particularly useful tbh, the features that actually help improve performance are mostly done by other external programs if your individual needs can be satisfied by this machine despite its hefty price tag and its cons, it will be quite a decent laptop depending on what you use it for.
Cool thanks for sharing your thoughts on it 👍 as for the individual key customization, did you get the Aura Sync / Aura Creator software from the windows store? For some reason in other models you can do it with those, but not with the built in software.
@@JarrodsTech i can't get the windows store one to work, am only able to use built in ASUS software that came along with the laptop and i can only get updated functionality when ASUS releases new patches based on a specific model.
If it comes with 16gb only then it's single channel, as there's 16gb soldered to the motherboard. You'll need to install a 16gb sodimm stick to get the benefits of dual channel
UW Gaming I bought mine with 32gb ram, you will need to buy another slot if you want dual channel memory. Some sellers on amazon add ram and additional storage which I got with mine. But 16gb of ram is still a lot, 32gb is massive ram!
Hi Jarod, thanks for your review, this was the push factor that made me chose the Zephyrus S from Scar III. The downsides for using Zephyrus S was the "noise" in performance / Turbo mode and the thermal of the laptop. all the points you've said were spot on. Keep up with the good work in producing your laptop contents.
Most of the higher end ASUS gaming laptops don't seem to include it, I guess they figure why pay more for a feature most gamers won't use, just my guess though.
@@JarrodsTech Jarrod, do U have any idea about where can I buy this laptop in dual channel? Both Scorptech and mwave only provide single channel version
Hi guys. I want to share my experience with this laptop. From performance perspective it is a great machine. I just think, that Asus itself doesn't know what it is doing with this laptop. Because in my country this laptop costs approx 2300€ in 16GB RAM + 512GB SSD which isn't little money for a laptop. And yet I had to return it 2 times to recieve let's say an "acceptable" unit. My first piece had really bad coil whine. So I returned it and recieved even worse piece. The second piece had also problem with coil whine but it wasn't that significant. Poorly assembled touchpad (the top part of touchpad was higher than bottom part). And the whole construction was vibrating (either while typing on keyboard, or listening from speakers). And also it had really annoying squeaking-sounding coil whine when laptop was in sleep mode. So I also returned that one and now I have third one and this seems to be finally "fine", yet the right Function (FN) button on this unit is somehow again poorly assembled and when pressed under certain angles or on certain places it is squeaking and there is some strange resistance. But that is not the thing that I can not live with since there is second FN button anyways. So overall. I would recommend this laptop, just I would say to be prepared that you might be forced to return it (maybe several times) until you get fully working unit, because rumours about Asus' poor quality control seems to be true. Moreover one more thing. For the first 2 unites that I've recieved the "MyAsus" app was saying that they were constructed on 5/5/2019 and this third one unit was constructed 6/21/2019 and they are a little different. This third unit that was constructed later feels sturdier. And also it has different speakers. The first two units had more bass-heavy speakers and this third later unit has more balanced speakers. Less bass but clearer sound.
Eagerly waiting for the Zephyrus s15 2020 review to arrive :) Also, please consider reviewing the 2070 super version as it's cheaper and almost as good as 2080 super Max Q. Almost all reviews of the S15 online are with the Max Q version, so I'd be glad if you get the 2070 variant.
very nice explanation especially when you open the back of the laptop for the upgrade option. will get this big bad boy soon for an upgrade as my daily driver, my inspiron 7567 can still do but i need more speed and refresh rate. thank you
Pros: 1. Beastly gaming performance (one of the best in the industry for its size) 2. USB-C charging Cons: 1. Expensive 2. CPU throttling (although doesn’t affect gaming performance; affect’s laptop’s lifespan, however) 3. Soldered 16GB RAM (although 1 RAM slot available for dual channel) Still undecided between this or the MAG-15. 🤷🏻♂️
@@miguelgalvez5630 I mean if you live in the states, then you may be able to get in contact with them but other countries, there will be issues with global warranty and customer service, etc., Get the Zephyrus M Gu502du has insane cooling and also removes other cons present in this one but has a 2070max-q variant but is 200$ cheaper, I mean the cooling is worth it considering cpu throttling of this one even with heavy undervolting
Darn they all keep producing gaming laptops with bad thermals. Worst with thermals are Alienware while Asus and MSI only thin series have really bad cooling. Good job Jarrod as always, very detailed review with temps and hardware overview.
Cheers, I guess it's kind of going to be expected as a compromise by what they've done here, don't think anyone else has crammed a non Max-Q 2070 in such a thin machine.
GX502 will probably perform better and it has G-Sync, but you can compare the results here with my Scar III review as I do the exact same testing on both.
@@crysis348 I had scar III and had problems with it and got gx502, but I was unlucky because I got bsod and tried to fix it for a week. Tried everything asus told me and they said its probably faulty hardware. I even installed windows 10 fresh 2 times on it and no help, was a pain in the ass. But scar III looks better IMO if you care about looks, but gx502 has gsync and I got 240hz model while scar III is 144hz. I would say go for gx502 unless you dont need gsync and 240hz
Hi Jarrod, thanks for the review, it's really on point. The quality and detail isn't really something you see coming out of Australia and you're going to grow big if you can maintain the rage! You mention thermals not being a huge issue, but if you can get the same spec GX701GW do you think it will perform a fraction better due to the improved cooling? I guess it would be about the same as the 2080MQ version you have reviewed.
Cheers. I have tested the GX701 in the past but yeah different specs, my guess is it may do better, as it both opens the bottom but also has the whole back half of the machine dedicated to intake, but then you also have to deal with the forward keyboard placement.
Yes I've seen dual channel memory improve some games at some setting levels by up to 30%. If you're paying this much money for a gaming laptop you might as well go all in on the extra memory considering it will make such a big difference
Yeah I agree most laptops need these things, at least until Intel start improving architecture instead of boosting clock speed and pushing 14nm to the limit.
Am I the only want here, who bought the Laptop first, then watch this review??? Thank God! you make me very glad and satisfied! Really enjoy your video, despite I'm not very good with computer technology, this video really comfortable to watch, Two Thumbs Up from me....
Great and detail review. Maybe if we lower the CPU clock speed and power limit, the CPU temp may improve. For most games are GPU bound, a slightly lower CPU speed won't hurt that much. ASUS should consider putting a TB3 in these high-end laptops, it's unlikely that people will need an eGPU for this laptop, but TB3 can be useful in other cases.
Thanks, maybe, hard to say as I don't test that, I care more about showing max performance than optimal temp, sorry 😛 my guess is they don't pay to license TB3 as maybe they assume many gamers don't end up using it? Not sure.
@@JarrodsTech undervolt definitely improves the CPU temp, but with the lower temp, the CPU boosts higher till it throttles. It should be interesting to see the temp after undervolting and limit the CPU clock to the level it reaches without undervolting.
still rocking a 2011 Macbook Pro. And its build like a tank, no flex. Sad to see that so many premium windows laptops in 2020 still aren't op to snuff when it comes to build quality.
I can get it for 2150USD right now, shall I buy? I'm just a content creator. And I was looking at Zephyrus G15 but... this deal seems like a steal..so the real question is, should I go for Intel 10750 and 2080 maxq OR Ryzen 5900HS and 3060???
Did the USB type C connected to the nvdia graphic card? Because I wondering can it connected to external g-sync display throught the USB type C display port 1.4 or the g-sync display won't work with it? Anyway nice and detail review, keep it up.
Considering getting this, but the GX502GV (RTX 2060, and 512GB). Is this model good? I've heard that the GW is better, but idk, don't really wanna pay a lot more even for 2070. Also, you can upgrade right? I think I heard it has 2 m.2 slots?
@@campkira you are too plastic. This is magnesium alloy chasie and aluminium lid. Magnesium alloy is very rare, and better than aluminium. Old IBM Think Pads whwre made from it.
Hey Jarrod, with a cooling pad would it cool the metal base anyway how would you cool laptops like this if you wanted to externally!? Thanks for this waiting for the updated S15/S17 2020 reviews.
i owned this laptop for more than a year now, as for cooling laptop like this model, it requires cooling pad with fans that blow directly from behind(back exhaust area) and not underneath(like most common cooling pad). it works quite well, from my case it dropped 5 to 8c depending from the games you play. hope this helps
I've been looking for a laptop for occasional gaming but will, for the most part, be using it for content creation like Adobe illustrator, photoshop, premiere pro. Would you recommend this laptop for that purpose?
Got the same experience as other users here, had to return 2 laptops, the third one was "fine" but still has coil whine, even on sleep mode. Mine is a GX502GV with the RTX2060 and was made after December 2019, in 07 jan 2020 and it has the 307 bios (one user suggested units made before this date could be defective). My first one had a faulty hinge and the touch pad was unglued and my second had the monitor frame squeaking when opening. Buy from a big retailer so you can return them!
@@JarrodsTech third one had 2 dead pixels, so I returned it also. Honestly don't know what to get now, I would go for the GW with the RTX2070, but i'm afraid of the build quality. The guys at the store will think I'm crazy if a return another one... :))
@@JarrodsTech Thanks for your help! I just ordered this PC with 16Gb soldered and I will buy additional RAM to take advantage of the dual channel. I wanted to know your model to be sure to have compatible RAM. However in my region, I can only order the samsung M471A2K43CB1-CTD. Compared to the DB1, both seems to have the same specs (16Gb, 2666MHz, CL19, nonECC, etc.) and I really do not see the difference between these two.
Hey Jarrod. Need an advice. I was really looking forward to buying this or Scar II or III laptop with RTX 2060/2070 on, but then read a lot of reviews saying about throttling issues and poor quality components. I usually buy a good laptop once in 5 years and my latest Asus has never been in a service center. So what would you recommend to buy? Maybe some Acer Triton is a better choice.. I'm totally confused right now.
Scar II seems to perform better than the III due to CPU power limits, but I have reviews on all 3 machines. Triton is ok but again lower CPU power limit, plus upside down motherboard, though it does have TB3 if you need it, and G-Sync in the 2070+ models.
Hello Jarod, i find your reviews very informative. Keep up the hard work 👌. I have been looking into buying a new laptop for a while now, do you think i should consider this laptop over the asus zephyrus g14 or MSI gs66 stealth?
Hi jarrod good job as always I just subscribed to your channel after watch so many reviews from you haha, I'm living in Gran Canaria (Spain) most of the time is warm, so which pc you recommend, asus gx502 this one or Asus gx701 2080 max q 90w? Great job thanks by the way
Thanks, and welcome to the channel! Personally I would go for GX502 because it has many of the same features but in a smaller package and I prefer my laptop to be portable as I use it for travel, but that's just me! If you don't mind the slightly larger size, 17" is nicer to game on.
Well detailed review as always mate! Since youve already reviewed scar III. Which would you recommend lets say they do have same specs? Performance and thermal wise.
Thanks, this for performance, Scar for thermals I guess, because it caps the CPU to 45W, lower power limit may equal less heat but also lower performance, it's a trade off - I plan on comparing both in a future video though.
The ASUS Zephyrus S (GX502) is being shipped today. This review helped me decide (for better or for worse) in favor of the Zephyrus M. The PC should arrive tomorrow, fingers crossed. You mentioned you couldn't adjust the color on the screen logo, but could you turn it off? Same with the LED in the bottom vents. Just want a cool blue keyboard light. Thx for the review. Well done. Cheers!
Thanks! Let us know how it goes 👍 yeah should be able to do that, I think the keyboard colouring software was a bit janky back when I made this, hopefully it's better now.
Finally got the PC, and it is awesome. Your review certainly was on point with this one. The laptop performs amazingly, runs every game I want smoothly and I can now enjoy gaming on a laptop again. The screen makes watching movies really enjoyable, although some light "bleeds" in from the corners. But overall top marks. The fan noise in gaming sessions I can mitigate with good noise cancelling headphones. Even at full fan speed, both CPU and GPU get's fairly hot. But that is to be expected. The PC is fairly quiet during normal work. I tried to experiment with the LED's, but found no option to specifically customize vent and back panel LED's. Fingers crossed ASUS update and make the Armoury Crate software more stable and better integrated with the AURA tool. Both tools needs some TLC from the dev team, as both are prone to hangs and crashes. But when functioning, they do provide an excellent customization feature. Overall very satisfied with the purchase, and two thumbs up for this PC. Recommended. Cheers!
No idea, probably not, from an ASUS perspective I've already covered the GX701 and not sure there's much point dedicating a week to test it again when the only differences seem to be slightly better CPU and increased memory? Haven't looked into it to see if there's any other changes. Let me know if I've missed something important, but at the moment I have 8 other machines in the queue I need to work through so I won't have time to ask for it for a couple months at a minimum.
Hi Jarrod, I’ve been watching your reviews and I’d like to ask you what would you recommend between this and the Aftershock Vapor? I’d be using it formatou gaming and video editing. Thank you and keep up the good work!
Thanks! Personally I'd go the vapor 15 as it has nice extras like bigger battery, SD card slot, Thunderbolt 3 and mech keyboard. In terms of raw performance though I'd expect the gx502 to beat it so I guess it depends what the priority is. I think the 1660 Ti with either though would give great performance for most people in any case.
I have GX502GW model and it has everything I ever wanted in a thin gaming laptop. Unfortunately 8 months into ownership, it broke down without any warning. Used it less than 10 times too. One fine day I took it out to perform windows update, then I started a game and bam... it shuts off without any warning at all. Then it wouldn’t turn on anymore. No lights no nothing. Funny thing is the game hasn’t even started so it wasn’t taxing anything. Looks like the power circuitry is screwed. Sucks...
How does this compare to the ROG Strix Scar III? Does the smaller form factor affect the thermals adversely when compared? Which would you recommend overall, Scar III or Zephyrus S?
This is way better, CPU power limits are low on the scar leading to lower performance, but I've reviewed that with same specs in this video so you can compare the results: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-G5nZuMj3ey0.html I will compare the two in depth in a future video, I just have a few other projects I need to finish first.
Hey man, what 16g RAM did you install on this laptop? My 2013 MacBook just bit the dust so I’m planning on picking this model up but don’t know which RAM to buy.
It comes with 16gb soldered to the motherboard, if you want to install a single 16gb stick (which is recommended to run in dual channel mode), then pretty much any SODIMM stick that can run at DDR4-2666 CL19 should be fine. Mine came with Samsung M471A2K43DB1-CTD
Correct me if i am wrong, but it is absolutely useless for using laptop coolers underneath it? If there is no holes down below? Looks like a decent machine.
Thanx for the review. If I'm planning to play casually like 30min mmo game a day, and working on adobe programs from time to time. Would this specs be enough to make me forget getting a new laptop every 4-5 years considering the price? I'm thinking of this or Acer Predator Triton 500
No laptop would last more than 4-5 years, even pc cannot keep up since the technology is advancing so fast, if u keep ure laptop in safe condition u can max keep ure laptop for 7 years.
I think with these specs it should last quite well for a long time if you treat it well, though it does run hot so hard to say how it'd hold up over the years.
Great Review! Can you compare this to the HP Omen 17? I’m wondering if the bigger/bulkier chassy of the Omen makes a difference with the cpu performance. The Omen has great specs for a fairly cheaper price so Im deciding between the two of them. Id like to know what you think.
Thanks! Unfortunately HP don't send me review units and they cost too much in my country for me to buy just to review, sorry. I've tried everything to make this happen. I've sent countless emails to every address I can find, made phone calls, even met with their staff at various events and exchanged business cards but nothing has come of it, so I can only assume they're not interested.
Jarrod'sTech thats okay, it’s their loss. People buy laptops when they find enough reviews on them online. I think HP isnt sending review units of that model to anyone. I think Im gonna go with the Zephyrus since portability is a requirement for me even if it costs a bit more. And this version of the Zephyrus seems to be the king of the year.
Hey Jarrod, great video. I am looking for a 15" top tier gaming laptop, in uour personal opinion would you say the GX502GW is best bang for the buck or perhaps another model? Or is there an upcoming release [or an upcoming review] worth a wait?
Thanks! I wouldn't say it's best bang for buck, but definitely best bang haha, performs well but isn't cheap. In terms of value for money Helios 300 gets a lot of performance per dollar. I am not aware of any laptops coming soon, I doubt there will be many until we get new Nvidia GPUs/Intel CPUs, but that probably won't be til next year (not including Intel 10th gen Y/U series CPUs which aren't used in gaming laptops).
Thanks for this, I am trying to decide between this and the Razer Blade 15 2070. Thoughts? I think this wins due to higher drive space and better cooling, as well as avoiding razer support.
@@JarrodsTech Hey, appreciate the reply! Yes the Blade 2070 is Max Q, the 2060 is not. Weird choices by Razer on that. But the form factor still makes it compelling, and actually I can find it for significantly cheaper than the Zephyrus. Man it's quite a tough call to be honest, and I have never used an Asus laptop so have no idea of their support and warranty etc. I think if I can find the Asus on sale around this black Friday mumbo jumbo then maybe that's the one... Thanks again my dude, keep up the great videos
Jarrod'sTech The triton has better cooling and battery life though, which is more important to me than slightly better performance, so I think I’ll stick with the triton.
Thanks! Looks decent, but probably will never be able to test that one as ASUS don't sell it in my country and they seem unwilling to ship it to me from overseas :(
Jarrod'sTech That’s too bad. I wanted to to buy the GX502 laptop but it’s currently sold out so I bought the GU502GV instead. I played some games. Is 90•C too high for the cpu temp?
Hi Jarrod. Is there a 17" version of Zephyrus S GX502 or Zephyrus S GX701 but with the mouse located in the middle ? I would buy the Strix Scar III but it doesnt have GSync. Im searching for a new 17" laptop with Gsync, which one would you recommend the most based on performance and screen color quality and vividness ? Thank you !
Not yet, they need to do a GX702 or something (this one but bigger). Hmm can't think of any 17" that are similar with G-Sync off the top of my head other than the GX701, sorry. Razer Blade Pro 17, Aero 17, MSI GS75 etc all don't have it.
Thanks man ! Do you think GSync feature is a must go in a laptop or not so much of advantage since It will be able to do GSync on an external monitor ?
What an awesome review!!! I am torn between this laptop and the Aero 15X v8 (the one that you have/had). I don't game much, mainly need it for creative and productivity work. I understand that this is the better spec'd laptop but for me fan noise, battery life, ports and upgrade-ability (32GB Ram & 1TB NVMe) are important. I am also weary of the raising bottom lid and it's long-term durability. I want a laptop that will last for at least 4 years. Should I buy the Aero 15X v8 or spend an extra $200 and buy the Zephyrus S (GX502GW)?
Thanks! For that workload the Aero is probably better, but I'd look at the new OLED model rather than the 15x as it addresses a lot of the issues with the 15x. Zephyrus if you want the much higher GPU power, though don't really need much of that for stuff like video editing with say Adobe Premiere/Photoshop.
Hi Sir , in your personal opiniom which one is better the Trtion 500 with i7-9750 H & RTX 2060 , or the The GX502GV with i7-9750H with RTX 2060 version ? Thanks
Thanks for the review! Btw jarrod, I am thinking of buying a gx502 (2070) in march. Should i wait for the newly announced 10th gen H CPUs (5ghz i7) or just go with 9th gen? I heard from articles they will be releasing the CPU’s around the next 11 weeks but one website said it will release in may.
No problem! I doubt we'll see much improvement, no architecture change so depends if they boost core count in the i7, which I doubt again because same architecture so that would need more power and heat which probably would be great in a chassis like this that's already thermally constrained. I've heard April/May for the new stuff if you did want to wait, with all that said maybe the new NVIDIA stuff is more interesting, not sure
If I was going to buy another gaming laptop this model would be on my short list. I have a 2015 MSI GS60 15.6" great overall, but the battery now is stuck at 11%,the last 6 months.Won't charge higher, but works fine.
I got the 240hz model but experience horrible fps drops while gaming. Even when running on turbo mode at lower setting in games like Apex Legends, MHW and even World of Warcraft. Fps suddenly drops below 60 after 10mins of gameplay. Anyone else experiencing similar issues? All drivers are up to date. I’m always plugged in while gaming.
Hmm, probably this personally because I prefer 15" for portability, Blade Pro is 17" and bigger. That said the Blade Pro has above Nvidia spec power limits on the GPU and is undervolted out of the box, so tough to say what the differences in performance would be given they use Max-Q 2070 - well actually it's not, forgot I have the results at 18:35, but I'm not sure how the 2080 Max-Q would stack up. The 4K blade pro might be good for photo/video editing, typically 4K panels those high end machines have are a step up with regards to colour gamut/brightness etc.
hey man i have this laptop, and im playing red dead 2 while the thermals around 88 to 82 c (CPU) so is that okay to playing w/o problems or its dangers on CPU ?I hope u answer m cuz when I hear the fans sound i worry
Hey Jarrod I watched video cool review👏👏but its kinda still confusing for me is it good for playing hours of dota 2 on this laptop can it last for 4-5 years?,it is the only game I'm going to play and do i need to undervolt and repaste when i buy it ??
Thanks! I'd expect so, most machines should last that long no problem if you treat them well, don't drop it / spill things on it / clean out dust say once a year and it should be just fine. Dota 2 runs extremely well on modern stuff, no need to tweak it unless you want to get a few extra frames.
@@JarrodsTech Thanks for reply you helped me lot you are my favourite RU-vidr thats why i watch every your video👍👍👏👏. Jarrod I have ordered one already is it proper to open laptop repaste and undervolt when it comes new??
@@hethavramkumar3581 ye i know but you want high fps and good quality of game I like good graphics and good performance so thats why i wamt strong laptop.
