French band founded in 1985 in Courbevoie by Thierry Sobezyk (bass, vocals) and Philippe Planchon (guitar, vocals), later joined by Pascale Macé (keyboards), Asylum Party was part of the so-called Touching Pop movement together with Mary Goes Round and Little Nemo. They disbanded in 1990.

Does anyone know a coldwave/goth rock tune that is a bit more slow and melancholy and has some lyrics in it that go 'I have no reason to live, but no reason to die...' super beautiful and no idea what track it was. Driving me a bit mental. The vocal style sounded somewhat similar to the tone of the singer from the Tea Party, but not as 'warbly'. It had a fair emphasis on some Cure-ish sorta guitar parts.. hope someone can one day tell me what this song was, I hate 'losing' tracks I overhear and don't know the details of hehe

Mainly hoping for someone to help me find exactly what the song was that I overheard in the pharmacist hehe.. but recommendations are always appreciated :) thank you - oh and everyone around me was banging or smoking h in the 90s noise/indie band scene where I am (including my band mates) so I counted myself lucky that I never wanted to do it and the one time I accidentally found I had inhaled some resin sitting in some bong water, I felt like I was 'content with dying' in my tiny bubble on a bus ride.. hated it so much, could never do that stuff. Kind of lucky predisposed to hallu's - way 'healthier' for mind and body imo xD - Tollund Men is awesome, the distortion and style of music reminds me of the aesthetic of I Do Not Love. aka IDNL

Asylum Party, Little Nemo, Mary Goes Round, Babel 17.... they are the coldwave/touching pop cake; a melancholic chill that couldn't be less touching than something warm and optimistic. This song in particular is about two characters from George Orwell's book 1984; Winston and Julia, unlikely lovers caught within a dreary panopticon of a futuristic post WWII Britain.

@@soysaucehairdye7869 cheers never heard that I'll check. Among the contemporary French bands , I found a band that seemed to come straight from the touching pop days : Frank just Frank. I loved them so much that I organised a gig in Milan back in 2010, great guys... The most shocking fact for me was that they told me they all came from a metal background.

I used to listen to an Australian shoegazer band called Lowtide who did a pretty good cover of this song. Now I just listen to this. Nothing's like the original. I've grown a deep love for Asylum Party's music and can't go a day without it now.

I just wonder, did they really use that Yamaha bass in the recordings or was it just something they had to do in the video as part of sponsorship or something? Because to my ears this sounds a lot like Fender Precision, not like Yamaha BB 424. If these sounds are really coming out from that bass, then I will buy one!
