Samuel George Davis Jr., famously known as Sammy Davis Jr., was born on December 8, 1925, in the Harlem neighborhood of New York City. From his earliest days, Sammy Davis Jr. was destined for the spotlight, born into a family of vaudeville performers.
His father, Sammy Davis Sr., was an African-American entertainer, and his mother, Elvera Sanchez, was a tap dancer of Afro-Cuban descent. This unique blend of cultural heritage and a household immersed in the performing arts provided a fertile ground for the budding star.
