Jackie was one of the best, period. Because of his push for safety he saved plenty of drivers. Long life to Jackie.

I have met Jackie and found him to be a wonderful and polite person. Not a big man, but he has big very strong hands and a genuine warm hand shake. A true living legend.

Jackie is a legend. He also suffered the tremendous loss of his teammate and friend François Cevert in one of the most horrific accidents in history.

Which no doubt drove him to pursue racing safety improvements.

I have 'disliked' this video because of the misleading 'clickbait' title. I think we should all do that until these many video producers learn that we will NOT be lied to just so they get viewing figures.

Totally agree. An interesting video and no need for the stupid clickbate title.

Couldn’t agree more! Clickbait is a growing problem on RU-vid. If there were a better alternative, I would have left RU-vid behind years ago.

Jackie Stewart is a legend. Any arguments against his push for safety can summed up this way. Look at the great drivers lost over the years and the careers that were cut short. Tell me that the sport wouldn't have been better if those great drivers were around a little longer. All the arguments against safety were never about safety, they were about greed. F1 is a much better sport because of Jackie Stewart and Nikki Lauda.

He was my icon in my youth, whilst he was racing, and is a great human being, and Scottish to boot. When he retired, of course, David Coulthard took his place. I will always respect him and his contribution to F1 racing.

Yup, the narrator is just a talking head with very little F1 knowledge. He was given a script to read then they got a video editor with similar knowledge to throw a video together.

I was watching F1 back in those bad old days, and I am forever glad of his push for safety, which was non-existent back then. Younger watchers have no idea how bad it was, the deaths got the headlines but there were many more who, as a result of bad injuries in crashes, had their careers cut short.

The trophy he's shown receiving from Ed Sullivan at around the 4:45 mark, was for winning a televised HO scale slot car race. His opponents were Dan Gurney, Graham Hill and Stirling Moss. There was also a $50,000 purse; I don't know how it was distributed.

Interesting video, misleading title. I would have watched it even if you titled it something like: A brief life story of Jackie Stewart!

Good for drivers but evil for riders. The barriers he fought for, killed dozens of motorcycle riders.

Simple, don't race bikes on tracks designed for cars. Motorcycles need vast amounts of runoff compared to cars.

Absolute pioneer. F1 is jackie stewarts legacy, i think after ceverts crash everyone realised safety needed to be sorted. Great video but title is click bait, please change this to reflect what is actually in the video.

When Stewart is was striving for more safety, together with his pal Jochen Rindt and you show a caption with Stewart and Prost. Don’t you think that we can tell the difference.

as a non Brit, i don't get it , Stewart as well as DC identifying themselves as proud Scot s, but refered as Brits , plus the British anthem is played on the podium. btw Jochen wouldn't be happy having prost s pic.

Today, one method to reduce costs and reduce speeds on corners, is to regulate the tires to DOT 200 or 400 tire wear spec. Tires would wear more with small bits like what comes off an eraser instead of marbles, making passing in corners in corners possible. This would put excitement in the racing for spectators.

Jim Clark was known as the Flying Scotsman. Stewart inherited that label after Clark's death.

I don’t think he or Clark were ever “known” as the Flying Scot or Scotsman. Only names used occasionally by sub-editors or makers of silly videos like this!

Not really! He was a coward! When his pupil Francois Cevert died in Watkins Glen in 1974, he retired on the following year. Ayrton Senna was the pilot who always confront FIA, to promote safety, with the F! main doctor at the time, Sid Watkins. He did the ultimate sacrifice. On the saddest day of modern F1 racing, Senna had an argument with F1 boss, Balestre about the safety at the Imola track, to the point of saying he would boycott, but, after the accident of Rubens Barrichello and the death of Ratezenberger, he decided to race, and fight another day. Sadly it worked, because the next death was over 2 decades later. Stewart was self righteous prick, that could not accept he was not relevant anymore in the sport, and that's why he came with his crappy Stewart team, leaving faster then it came. He used his fame all over the place to make money, even is sports he had no idea about, relying on producers to cue him on information. Besides, he was Scottish, and did not lick when referred to as British. Get your facts right, you even showed a picture of Stewart with Alain Prost, saying that it was Jochen Rindt, the only F1 driver becoming champion posthumously.

Jackie told Ken Tyrell he was retiring at the end of the season, he didn’t even tell Helen his wife, it was nothing to do with that horrendous Crash at Watkins Glen when Francois Cevert lost his life, the race was in 1973 not 1974, he didn’t race on the Sunday out of respect, Jackie and his wife Helen were very close to Francois.
