Competition between Rod, Freddie and Elton
Life in LA, questionable cookies and roast dinners with Rod Stewart
Collaborating with David Bowie and the challenges of making Under Pressure
Why drum machines are dreadful - even on I Want To Break Free
Why Top of The Pops and the BBC were "so crap"
Is Another One Bites The Dust a disco record?
And is Roger Taylor responsible for punk?

So nicer to hear Rog talk about himself for a change and not be beleaguered with questions about Freddie.
@andreachavez2117

yes. I always feel a bit sorry for Rog and Bri because they must always relive Freddie's death every bleeding interview! We all loved Freddie, he was amazing, but, ya know...Rog and Bri and John are all amazing too. John has taken himself out of the industry, fair enough, but Brian and Roger are still there bring us music and joy and I want to hear about THEM! Roger is so cool and smart and funny. Brian is in a league of his own, so kind and caring. LOVE them both to bits.

I don't think of it as being beleaguered to talk a bit about Freddie. What an insult. They were a fantastic band. It was an honor to know and to have been a friend of Freddie's.
@juliabeatlemaniac

@@janethuegerich6579 It's not necessarily an insult. It just must be nice for them to be able to talk about themselves for once, rather than have to constantly bring up Freddie's death. (Kinda like being the middle child, if that makes sense.)

Not a lot has changed about this guy in the past 51 years just that ‘ash blonde’ hair he’s got going on😂 Really loved this interview, the stories and jokes are lovely to listen to and quite funny, it’s very nice to see interviews of both Rog and Bri where there not consistently bombarded about Freddie or other nonsense. All this talk about Roger, which is fair enough, but Jim Cregan is a legend too. His contribution to a lot of other people's songs is often overlooked. He was in Family to begin with, a grossly underrated band, then, as mentioned, in Steve Harley's Cockney Rebel where he played that superb solo in "Make Me Smile." He also co-wrote a lot of the better Rod Stewart songs back when he was still doing real rock and roll. His solo in "I Was Only Joking" is superb. He also worked with Katie Melua, London Quireboys and a stack of other artistes. I'm a Roger fan, but let's not overlook Jim Cregan, he's a very talented and successful guitarist and producer.

My favourite about Under Pressure I remember hearing was that apparently John Deacon came up with the bass line while they were jamming, then broke for lunch or whatever, and when they came to back to work some more on the song, he had forgotten what it was! Fortunately, it came back to him, as they say, but can you imagine coming up with THAT intro, and then not remembering like a couple hours later?

What a cracking interview. I have been a Queen fan since childhood, managed to see them live with Freddie 7 times and once with Adam Lambert, all great shows. I took a liking to Roger's music and vocals and bought "Fun in Space" when it was released in May 1981, still one of my fave albums of all time. Roger always comes across as just a regular, funny, top bloke. Roger's latest album is also a corker "Outsider". Such a talent, but a very modest man. I'd love to share a beer with him someday! This really was a pleasure to watch, thank you for posting this.

I have had the privilege of watching Roger Taylor live and he reminded me of Nico McBrain in the same respect as in, they both look like they are doing fu@kall but absolutely smashing it. Only because what they do appears effortless. Hands up, I am a drummer but I live in that real world that these gents left a long time ago. It amazes me that drummers like RT, Nico & Nick Mason are so underrated as one could not exist without the other and they are almost all victims of that less is more prerogative. I’m clearly biased but I’m not wrong. Brilliant drummer!!

I saw Queen 2 years in a row, Vancouver, Canada. I think 76 and 77, I was 16 and 17 and getting into photography bigtime so it was an absolute necessity to be at the front of the stage for any concert I went to. I think I have some excellent photos from the 2nd concert - Freddie in leather - some great ones of Rog too. Excellent close-ups of all of them. They were pretty tight both concerts but Freddie still communed verbally with the audience. He saw me with the camera and big lens and I'm pretty sure he hammed it up for me a few times. He was right in front of me at the edge of the stage and introducing the song from ANATO about their previous manager who'd screwed them over and I shouted "Death on two legs!" and he yelled back "you got it!" or something like that and I was like cooled out by it. I was a huge Queen fan at that time so it stuck with me forever. We all thought Rog was the lady killer in the band. He had the rock drummer look. John and Brian kinda looked like musicians. Freddie had Elvis on the brain. All played well and gave it their all. Wow. Almost half a century ago. Those were the days of our lives. This is a great interview to run across. Thanks everyone!

And there were 2 maybe 3 percussionists on stage. There’s a clip on RU-vid of Justin Bieber where there’s a mishap on stage and he fell over but the vocals could be still heard as he tried to get back up. As Roger said, it’s cheating.

Roger's absolutely right about the attitude of the BBC. Doctor Who was one of the most popular TV shows of the era, but the BBC would never give the show a proper budget to do the show the way it deserved to be done. Their attitude was 'It's a kid's show, so who cares?". Also, there was all the aggro caused by the unions, things like if you were shooting a scene, and you said "Ya know, it would work better if this lamp was over here, rather than over there", you couldn't do it yourself. You had to have the propmaster do it, and if he was in the loo or on his break or whatever, you had to wait for him to come back. That wasn't just the BBC though, I heard that story on a DVD of The Tomorrow People, and that was a Thames Television show.
