Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis gave an update on Hurricane Milton rescue and recovery efforts Thursday, noting that 340 people and 49 pets have been rescued since the storm's landfall Wednesday night. The governor also said that inland flooding caused by the storm in central and northern parts of the state has blocked key roadways. Energy companies are working to restore power to the estimated three million residents in the dark.

Even though the schools will open “quickly”, I hope they have grace for those students who were hit hard by the hurricanes, tornadoes, flooding. It is beautiful seeing how communities are coming together to support one another through everything. My prayers for all.🙏🏾

People are hurting, but De Santis can't stop playing politics for even one second. He needs to give the federal government due credit. Florida costs so much federal money because it's disaster prone. Homeowners insurance companies are fleeing the state. Florida will eventually need the govt to step in to insure these homes within the next 20 years.

There's no power running through those lines currently. But in less extreme circumstances you are correct. But in the aftermath of a hurricane, power is def out.

Actually some dont willingly choose. It takes a car and gas got the car to leave. You get blocked in jams om the row and could get caught on the highway. Some cannot afford to go. It costs money for travel and staying where they are going. I've not heard of free bus shuttles for these folks. Some are too ill to to travel, and caregivers stay with them. I hope officials found and bolstered enough shelter locations to help these folks all over the state.

Some people simply cannot afford to evacuate. There is so many logistics when evacuating. Extra fuel costs, hotels costs, eating out costs. Some people can’t afford too. (I live in Houston)

I don't even live over their but i have watched a few people speak out as to why they didn't leave. One women said she had hardly ang gas in her car and the local gas station had run out. she went to another one that also was empty. So she had to go home and bunker down as she also had dogs. Another man said he didn't have a car and he had no friends or family to turn to and no money to afford accommodation. Not everyone could just leave

@@LeeTheVet most everyone knows they choose to stay because they didn't think it was necessary. Those with handicap were offered assistance. The people rescued had vehicles capable of transporting themselves. Been through these before so I'm not stupid. Watch you mouth or did your mom fail you. I've been through lots of hurricanes and tornadoes and many people are not thinking about how dangerous they are. I drove an ambulance in south Texas during hurricane season and most people we rescued were capable of transporting themselves. Some people stayed to steal what was left n some of these creeps had enough money to do what they wanted but choose to take advantage of the situation. We caught a couple of people breaking into homes and liquor stores
