Heavy rainfall leading to severe flooding in southern Germany has killed several people and forced thousands to flee their homes. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz visited one of the areas hardest hit in the state of Bavaria. He said the floods were yet another indicator of the threat posed by man-made climate change.

Because climate change, from ice ages to warm periods is a natural process, and it happened even before humans walked the earth. The difference this time is that humans are accelerating climate change by burning resources accumulated over millions of years in a matter of decades. All in all though, humanity might affect the climate as much as an eruption of a super vulcano or a bigger meteorite impact.

Magnus, spot on! Expenses for our small business and home have increased dramatically in the last five years. Our home insurance has gone from $1,500 to $11,000 per year. Electricity ranges from $0.41 to $1.2 per kWh, higher when everyone is running air conditioning. It was $0.21 per kWh not long ago. Food prices are up. I spend another $10,000 and a few hundred hours per year making our home and business more fire resistant. We use more electricity to keep our home livable. And, we loose peak summer season business when we have to evacuate for fires, or when fire smoke is bad. Everyone living in Mediterranean climates throughout the world has the same story! Easy to say manmade climate change. Heavy rainfall which is a natural phenomenon does not necessarily cause flooding. What's overlooked is the massive concrete on and in the ground due to past population growth and rapid urbanisation with insufficient drainage systems that cause the blockages to the natural flow of water which cause flooding. Same thing happens in Asia and people realise that rapid developments (without proper drainage systems in place like monsoon drains, culverts and deepening of rivers) cause flash flooding.

At the current at which we are burning fossil fuels and adding carbon to the atmosphere, we are looking at a 3 C or do increase in temperatures by 2100. Likely more given tipping points like permafrost melting. So, we’d better build very good flood control!

I am original from Germany and lived there for more than 30 years. They have that floods since always every few years. It is normal. And not due to climate change, but due to the man made straightening of the rivers for ship travel. The rivers went in curves in the past which was distributing the water more evenly. Now everything rushes down a straight line which is shorter. And for the smaller rivers and creeks it was always normal that we had flooding. I remember that because we as kids were always watching that very excited. Nevertheless I am sorry for the lost lives of course.

@@gerhardma4687 I am not saying you should live on trees, but one needs to give space for the rivers, Seas and Oceans to let it swell up sometimes. But in Germany I have noticed, most people love to live NEAR or even more dangerous ON the water bodies. It's picturesque, but dangerous. I have been living in Germany since 2009 and have travelled to almost all parts of Germany. In spring, we had been to Cochem and the moment I saw the promenade, 1st thing I thought was, when there flooding, it could be dangerous. It did happen afterwards.
@gerhardma4297
@gerhardma4297 Месяц назад
@@swatichatterjee1513 I can understand your point but you know, that those Cities and Villages are there for hundreds or more than thousand years. People have always built settlements in the immediate vicinity of flowing or standing water. There were logical reasons for this and it was no different in Germany 2000 years ago until today. And people have always lived with floods. Those places are there homes and the poeple won't leave. Of course the people on the Mosel or the Rhine have had floods every 4 or five years. They are used to live with it and those Villages or cities build special walls. The problem is, that those floods appear more often and the floods are getting worse. What do you realistically suggest? Raze hundreds of villages to the ground and relocate millions of people? To where? Germany is so densely populated that there are no alternatives. You visited Cochem and saw the old houses. Guess how often these houses had to withstand floods, or how often destroyed buildings were rebuilt. It has happened many times over the centuries but only a few people have moved away and it will stay that way. And no one and no government can force them to do so. The heart is attached to the homeland. I am lucky that i don't live in such areas but also here we have a small river and some floods but not so serious and the people with water in their cellars or in the yard don't even talk about it. Germans are stubborn and unyielding in this respect. But you experience the same thing in Italy, France or anywhere else in Europe.

Will the Earth Be Destroyed? It is extremely confusing what most religions teach! This is what the Bible teaches 👇🏼👇🏼 The Bible’s answer No, planet Earth will never be destroyed, burned in fire, or replaced. The Bible teaches that God created the earth to be inhabited forever. “The righteous will possess the earth, and they will live forever on it.”-Psalm 37:29. “[God] has established the earth on its foundations; it will not be moved from its place forever and ever.”-Psalm 104:5. “The earth remains forever.”-Ecclesiastes 1:4. “The One who formed the earth, its Maker who firmly established it, . . . did not create it simply for nothing, but formed it to be inhabited.”-Isaiah 45:18. Will humans ruin the earth? God will not allow humans to ruin the earth completely by pollution, warfare, or any other means. Rather, he will “bring to ruin those ruining the earth.” (Revelation 11:18) How will he accomplish that? God will replace human governments, which have been unable to protect the earth, with a perfect heavenly Kingdom. (Daniel 2:44; Matthew 6:9, 10) That Kingdom will be ruled by God’s Son, Jesus Christ. (Isaiah 9:6, 7) When on earth, Jesus exercised miraculous powers over natural elements. (Mark 4:35-41) As the King of God’s Kingdom, Jesus will exercise full control over earth and its elements. He will re-create, or renew, conditions on earth, making them similar to those that existed in the garden of Eden.-Matthew 19:28; Luke 23:43. Doesn’t the Bible teach that the earth will be burned in fire? No, it does not. Such a misconception often comes from a misunderstanding of 2 Peter 3:7, which says: “The heavens and the earth that now exist are reserved for fire.” Consider two important points that help us understand the meaning of those words: The Bible uses the terms “heavens,” “earth,” and “fire” to refer to more than one thing. For example, Genesis 11:1 says: “All the earth continued to be of one language.” Here, “earth” refers to human society. The context of 2 Peter 3:7 indicates the meaning of the heavens, earth, and fire mentioned there. Verses 5 and 6 draw a parallel with the Flood of Noah’s day. On that occasion, an ancient world was destroyed, yet our planet did not disappear. Instead, the Flood wiped out a violent society, or “earth.” (Genesis 6:11) It also destroyed a kind of “heavens”-the people who ruled over that earthly society. Thus, wicked people were destroyed, not our planet. Noah and his family survived the destruction of that world and inhabited the earth after the Flood.-Genesis 8:15-18. Similar to the waters of the Flood, the destruction, or “fire,” of 2 Peter 3:7 will bring an end to the world of wicked people, not to planet Earth. God promises “new heavens and a new earth” in which “righteousness is to dwell.” (2 Peter 3:13) A “new earth,” or new human society, will be ruled over by “new heavens,” or new leadership-God’s Kingdom. Under the rule of that Kingdom, the earth will become a peaceful paradise.-Revelation 21:1-4. Verse 4 says " And he (God) will wipe out every tear from their eyes,g and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.” Those words must refer to earth, because in heaven, where God is, death has never existed. These and many other scriptures of similar import certainly point this out

As of recent data, Taiwan ranks 15th globally in terms of per capita carbon emissions, with an average emission of 11.7 metric tons of CO2 per person per yea.(Germany emitted approximately 8.4 metric tons of CO₂ per capita. ) This high ranking reflects Taiwan's significant reliance on fossil fuels, particularly for electricity generation, where 82.8% of its electricity comes from fossil fuel sources (Visual Capitalist)..
