This is my interview to Estonian TV (ETV). This clip was in the "Ringvaade" show which is one of the most popular daily shows here in Estonia. Lot of locals showed up in my workshop with their chairs after that ;)
Glad to see that you are getting the recognition that you so richly deserve! Your work is never anything but meticulous and beautiful! You SHOULD be recognised far and wide.
Thank you for adding the subtitles so we can watch (and understand). By the way you deserve the kind words. I think we all really appreciate your commitment to bringing new life back to these pieces. You’re a ⭐️!
Same here, Nancy. So many are obviously kind of "fake" where the pieces are very carefully chosen and don't require much more than a bit of stripping and sanding. Channels featuring true fixes and the correct use of different kinds of materials and construction, like Ahti (and Thomas Johnson, also good) are much more rare. There are others that are just painful to watch because the work itself is just sloppy or uninformed. There's a place for all of these videos, nothing against those who watch them, but they're not for me. If someone restores a 100 year old piece of furniture, I like to see them do it in a way that will last the next hundred years, because those wonderful original Art Nouveau and Art Deco pieces are never coming back. Let's see some of these "sand and repaint" channels fix a WWII bombed chair like Ahti just did, right down to traditional seaweed/horsehair upholstery methods, and then I might have a bit more respect.
I hope that the behind-the-scenes of seeing you set a camera shot up and then film for a few minutes, reset the shot, film for a few minutes, and again and again helps viewers understand how much effort we put in to creating these videos on top of just doing our jobs of restoring old items that require a lot of attention.
Congratulations on the success of your channel. You really do deserve all the praise for your work. Everything you work on turns out so beautifully. You are a great teacher. Keep up the good work. 👏🏻👏🏻🇨🇦
I love watching your videos, especially when you share the history behind the item you are restoring. I also love that you really pay attention to the details and you show us your great sense of humor. Best wishes
I'm pleased subtitles we're added to this interview so us English speaking audience could watch and enjoy. Your work is always of the highest quality. You so throughly deserve this recognition.
You are most definitely worth all the praise you receive, my friend! Don't ever doubt your talents and worth to a whole lot of fans. Thank you for your efforts and accomplishments! There may be a language barrier, but you overcome that quite handily. Thank you.
If anyone deserves the recognition, it's you. There are quite a few "furniture restorers" on RU-vid, but very few equal your craftsmanship. I especially like to watch you work. It reminds me of me watching and helping my dad (who would have been 100 in 2022) restore furniture and other items when I was a little boy. He once got a solid oak old staircase from a house that was about to be torn down and refurbished it into a new staircase. The smell of the European oak shavings is something to be experienced! He didn't have the nice tools you have, but what he could do with his hands and simple tools was incredible. I still have a chest of drawers he restored and 6 chairs he re-upholstered. I hope I can pass those on to my children
It was awesome getting to know you a bit better. I sure appreciate the restoration of all the antique pieces you do. You make it look amazingly easy but I think we all know better than that. Thank you so much for sharing your talented self.❤
Пересмотрелавсе ваши ролики, на двух каналах, вы настоящий профессионал. Смотрю не могу оторваться, просто золотые руки, берегите их, здоровья и процветания.
Congratulations! That's so nice to see. 😊 We love to watch a skilled craftsman rejuvenate old and broken things that are still beautiful and worth saving to live again. Bravo. 👍🇨🇦💕
Ahti, thank you for your years of service in restoration excellence . The quality of your work and attention to detail is exemplary . The world needs more skilled men that can repair things for posterity and use for future generations.
What a nice interview. I’m pleased that making videos helped you feel excited about the work again; we all need change. And finally, after the past few years, my country, the USA, has been an embarrassment. I’m glad the folks who come to this channel express kindness.
I love your videos. The world today is so broken and I feel sad that we can't make it nice again. That's why it's so soothing and healing to sit quietly and watch you take a broken chair or cabinet and make it beautiful again. It keeps me going.
I am not from the USA but the UK, your work is just so mesmerising to watch, I find it very relaxing, so much like my fathers work. Thank you. Thank you for the subtitles otherwise most of us would not have understood a word. Thank you,
You are worth it, Ahti. You make your viewers proud of following your restoration work, learn new things and enjoy your music. Stand tall, mate. You deserve it. Cheers.
In our “throw away what is broken” world, one who can breathe live into what is lost, who can restore beauty that has been destroyed, and do it with such meticulous skill is a treasure. You, my friend, are such a treasure. Every video you create brings beauty and peace into my life!
Thank you for putting up the subtitles, Australian here but I did still watch it without subtitles. Keep up the good work, I love watching restorers who respect the wood unlike the flippers that just sand, putty and paint beautiful pieces for profit. You are one of my favourite RU-vidr
Thank you for putting subtitles to your TV interview so we can enjoy what was being said. And you asked in this video if you deserved all the kind comments and I'd say definitely you do. Your work is amazing and a real treat to see such skilled craftsmanship.
I will be glad when YOU can see YOU…from our perspective. Not only are you worth it…you have worked for it and earned it. Now…embrace it! You are the Patient Magician.
Ahti, people watch your videos because you are extremely talented at what you do. You are a superb artisan. I always learn from you. Congratulations on the TV spot!
That was fun :) Thank you for providing subtitles, and thanks to ETV for giving you permission to post the interview on your channel. The lady asks good questions :)
WOW WONDERFUL. I learned so much about your career and love of what you do that now all of your fellow countrymen will see it too. Be prepared to get busy. Congratulations'!!
What Heather said!!! Your videos are always a bright spot in the week and I always learn something and (of course) get ideas for my own projects. It really is a delight to have a master craftsman 'showing us the ropes' as it were. Thank you (yet again) for posting!
I look forward to your videos EVERY week! I enjoy watching your work because it's clear that you know what you're doing, sometimes you add some humor and other times, it's just baffling (like the video where the client was fixing that particle board dresser lol). I appreciate the time that you spend to record and edit these videos. They are educational and very interesting! I am amazed by how you are able to take some pieces that seem impossible to repair and actually make them look incredible! Even though I will probably never refinish furniture, it's relaxing to watch you apply your craft. You are a master sir!
You are definitely worth all the positive comments you get. Out of all the Restorations I watch you are my favourite! I loved the one with the suitcase and your family pictures! You are about the same age as my second daughter. You are young yet. Enjoy life! 🇨🇦👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🙏🏼❤️✝️🕎☝🏻
Brilliant, I understood every word, thank you for the translation, so good to see you as you are, well done look forward as always to your posts, greetings from Wales 🏴
Yes, I think many of your viewers agree that your videos are worth our time! Thought about your work today when my wife and I visited the Temple Newsam Manor House (UK). I saw a trim very similar to the one you recreated in the "19th century junk/cabinet" video! Small world!!
You are a very talnted craftsman, well worthy of the many followers you have! I continue to learn from your teaching and gift in showing how to do the skills and why. Please keep the videos going.
I really like restoration in general, especially antique furniture. I've watched many videos on the Internet, but when I found your videos, I started watching one after the other and I've already seen a lot of them! I thought your work was fantastic. You are very careful in your work and treat all the furniture you restore with care. CONGRATULATIONS FOR YOUR WORK!
Congrats on being viewed on television. That is a huge affirmation of the quality work you are doing on the antiques and your videos. I am enthralled with your upholstery work and the use of "original" materials. I agree that nails can be quite a bother to remove. However, my father-in-law used nails AND screws to fix a table leg! I'm originally from the northern US, but we've moved south, and I find the people here overuse paint when they try to restore furniture. There is nothing that pains me more than to see a solid walnut hutch painted.
Wow a TV interview - congratulations! You were so relaxed, thanks for sharing it with us, great segment. Especially enjoyed the questions - biggest crime against furniture. For me tilting back in a "kitchen" chair - yikes. Yes, I can appreciate nails for you.
Interesting interview. I'm surprised you don't have more subscribers as you are such an interesting person to watch turning broken furniture back to life. I truly enjoy watching you work.
Greetings from Venezuela. I love your work. I love that you don't need to be talking about every single thing you do, you just show us your work with some explanatory captions. You are very modest and I thank you for continuing to upload videos of your work. I learn a lot from you
Thank you for sharing your expertise with the rest of us. Watching your videos is usually very calming and the perfect relaxation. It gives me joy that restoring things, bringing them back to life, with attention to detail, actually pays your bills. It is not a hobby, but a profession. And you are a master, but remain humble. A video from you is always a treat. Thank you.
Thank you for doing all that work to make your videos! All the planning, shooting, editing... You show genuine craftmanship, love and respect for your work. That is a rare thing these days - but people recognize it when they see it. That inspires! Also you are generous in sharing your experience. In short: thank you for all you do!
Yes! You are definitely worth every comment I leave. I love watching you n love learning what you do with each piece you work on. This was a wonderful video. It’s was nice to get to know a little bit more of the person you are. So happy you decided to have your own Utube channel. Thank you. 😊♥️👍👍👍👍🌟🌟
For me, I like watching your restoration videos probably because I can see how passionate you are in your work. The quality of your meticulousness and patience when fixing furniture always remained consistent with all your uploaded videos. It makes me awfully reflect on myself as a young person, "What is the work that I can do continuously for 30 years and still makes me happy when I do it?" It's pretty awesome to see your little smile actually when your learned that your works are finally getting the recognition they deserved.
Thanks! Thinking 30 years ahead is bit too long perspective. Following your heart and passion is a better way to think about it. Not all the works are highly appreciated by the society though.
you are totally worth it because what you do is outstanding. not everyone can do what you do. sometimes when I see what you have at the beginning have nothing to do with the result. it looks like brand new at the end and that's what you make unique. For me your channel is the best restoring channel on RU-vid and I have watched your videos again and again. Thx for every Video ... I learned a lot ...
Yes, you are really worth the positive comments. I look forward to your videos, especially the ones with a story. In our throw away world it’s mind boggling to think about some of these items surviving a war and makes the people that own them kind of amazing.
Congratulations on all your success, it is well deserved! Your work is impeccable and you are a genuine, humble person. Thank you for sharing your talents with us!
OK, this American is going to leave another kind comment. 😂 Great interview! Thank you so much for the subtitles. I'll confess it is a bit odd to hear your voice after all the videos I've watched, but it was very nice to see another part of you. Keep being your awesome self!
Well, here's another American comment. YOU are over the top. I love to see fine craftsmanship, something that is becoming very rare in the USA. Better yet, it shows you care and want to do fine work. You should be proud of your skills and I will tell you I wish you were here in this country because I would be supplying you with some work for sure.
Very interesting. I discovered your channel a few months back and marvel at your restoration skills. It was interesting hearing your stories. Love your restorations!
Congratulations from Argentina. I follow you for a long time, but i do not write you often. One of the things i care, is the quality of the content. Excellent and always constant. Keep doing what you do. I only miss the music in the end of some videos :/ The music alert me when the video is finishing :)
I enjoyed this video and I thought the interviewer asked good questions, hope it brings in lots more viewers to the channel. Of course you're worth it! ❤
You are the best on furniture restoration. I like the love you put in every project. Thank you for showing us your work, it's a pleasure for all of us. Álvaro from Spain.
Yes, you are worth the positive comments. You take something that would have been thrown away and make it beautiful and new again. A new life. In today's throw away world that is a great thing. Do you know that people are not learning how to fix things because it would cost more to fix it than to buy a new one. Take care and keep up the teaching of old days. Have a wonderful day
Ahti, thanks for showing this with subtitles. I watched it before when you mentioned it. I'll tell you why I watch you. You know what you are doing and you competently show your expertise. You explain as you go without droning on & on. You restore not only the functionality but the beauty in each piece. You are a joy to watch. Oh, to answer your final comment, yes, you are worth it.
Well done with your achievment. Now we will see 6 figure subscribtions that you deserve on all your videos. Palju õnne!!! from me all the way from Replublic of South Africa🇿🇦
Aww ❤️ You deserve the love and attention. You underestimate how much joy you bring to my life with your videos. I'm so happy that you feel warm reading the comments, that's exactly what's intended.
