I made a mistake in this video. By default, pfSense blocks traffic from its Lan to private addresses on the Wan side. If you can still connect to the ATT router, that's perfectly fine.

@@albertroswell I was about to ask that question too.. in a way I would like to still access the '254' ATT GUI if my Pfsense box dies then I can still revert to the ATT device. Question, do I assign the WAN IP as static on the Pfsense WAN interface or does that get assigned through DCHP when bridged?

@traviswolfe215

@@airuzair2424 **WAN port on the Asus goes to the ethernet of the ATT gateway** The ONT is for the ATT Fiber "Feed." Don't let that last sentence confuse you. the only thing you need to worry about is ensuring the ASUS WAN goes to the ETHERNET port on the ATT gateway since that's your question. I just watched the video again and everything is very very straight forward. watch, pause and follow instructions for each step and you'll be fine. you may have to reboot all the systems a few times to ensure it works (as he says in the video) but I did not. it worked first time for me.

The better way of accomplishing this with pfsense is using a true bypass method "pfatt/wpa supplicant mode" it's a bit complex but if anyone is up to the challenge of completely eliminating the AT&T GW then this is the way to go. My ATT GW has been unplugged and sitting in a closet for 6 months with no issues while pfsense handles all my traffic.

I think he has multiple public IP's on the ATT account. He has security cameras on the ATT BGW210 network so I don't want to mess up his remote viewing of those cameras. The ATT router doesn’t do anything like intrusion prevention (in the way that something like the UDM does). It also can’t do vlans and a bunch of other more advanced things. If you’re just a basic home user with a few ports open, you should be fine with the ATT router. Edit: you also can’t change your dns server on the ATT router so you can’t use something like pihole without manually configuring it on every device you have connected to the router. Doing it on the router level is MUCH better.

I mean you CANNN do that but really shouldn’t. It’s called double natting and it’s not good. Great now do it with Static IPs provided by ATT while service your LAN devices to one of your blocks while maintaining a static IP on the Pfsense itself. Get ready to beat your head against a wall

Why would I want to do this? I have no idea what I’m talking. Is it for security? Privacy? Or lower latency?
@MillerTechnicalServices
@MillerTechnicalServices 2 года назад
I’m not trying to be rude in any way when I say this but if you don’t understand the concept, you wouldn’t need it. But the idea is because the ATT router is so limiting, people want to use a different router and this video is about disabling the firewall on the ATT router and having it get out of the way as much as possible.

im sorry but where the hell is the mac address located?? and why did you not show to disable the wifi from the att router
@MillerTechnicalServices
@MillerTechnicalServices 3 месяца назад
You need the MAC address of your specific router you are forwarding to. That’s up to the vendor where they put it. My line of thinking in the video was “hey I already am using another router but now I need the Wan IP” and had already disable Wi-Fi for myself.

I am just curious If you are having a public ip address and not in same network. from there I can set a 2 WAN network on my pfsense box? WAN 1 > Public IP 216.XX.XX.XX WAN 2 > Public IP 102.XXX.XX.XX so I don't need to reconfigure from the AT & T modem? Is that possible? Thank you for sharing

You will likely have to change those dns settings in your new router to not use dhcp assigned ones. Also, if it works still, you’re probably fine.

This is not the best method, traffic is still going in and out of the router, you need a bypass

SCAM ALERT Guys, there is someone impersonating to be an att rep. If u r a new customer, please continue reading. The scammer will ask if u received your reward card. They will have your name, address, and are aware that u r getting a reward card. They know the expiration date and the first 8 digits of the card. They will pretend like they r going to add more funds. It’s a scam. Don’t give them any information.

att blows. They don't allow you to simply bridge their router. Only passthrough which slows down your connection (1gig down to 100m wifi) so they can see what you do and every device you have connected. and super high pings. pages load like it's dsl. At&t is the worst.
@nukedaddy

I tried this a while back and couldn't get it to work. I was never able to see my router on the network - only the AT&T gateway. I didn't know that I should keep re-booting, though. I also didn't turn off the at&t firewall stuff so maybe that had something to do with it also.

Did you have to turn off the DHCP on the ATT gateway? I am currently fighting with it. It keeps giving a 192.168 number to my UDMP. I have pass through setup but the ATT gateway isn’t doing the pass through. I am on my 20th reboot

I didn’t disable anything I didn’t show in the video. Double check the new router to make sure it’s pulling an updated ip and not reusing the one it has been in the past
