No don’t rename and move your videos! I just found you and by watching your old videos, I understand you……and me too. You are real, and have time to declutter. Get your bedroom done and then when that happens, you will have a peaceful room. Read one book every 2 weeks and after a year that is 26 books read. After reading each book, leave it on a bench or in a coffee shop for someone else to find. Take care of yourself❤

Hi Grace ☺️ I think we all love your videos because they are so realistic and down to earth! We appreciate your honest thoughts and I look forward to your videos each week and feel like I’m sharing the (up and down) decluttering journey with a friend ☺️ I live on quite a busy main road (in New Zealand) and I often put donations out for people to pick up, it’s really heart warming seeing people get excited to pick up some free goodies, decluttering is not all bad 😋 Thank you again for sharing!

I think stylish minimalism is pretty fake. Real life is messy! I think your minimalism should be called Grace Full Minimalism. Giving yourself grace while decluttering is the best approach imo. Keep it up girl!

Minimalism is just an incredibly helpful tool for messy people - I hate cleaning it's started to take too long so I just started getting rid of stuff I didn't want to move and put back 😂

Grace, thank you for being REAL. It is surely not for everyone to get rid of 95÷ of the stuff they own. Being real makes you much more relatable. I'm with you on the game. There's a place in my apartment currently stacked with boxes I need to go through. We got this.

I love this video. I completely feel the same way. I am easily overwhelmed by stuff in my house. My husband and family are not minimalist but I am. I am constantly getting rid of my things but it never seems to help. This video helps me realize I am not alone thank you . ❤

Grace, you‘re doing a great job. I can understand very well that it must be really difficult for you having to work around all the things that aren‘t yours in your appartment. When I got rid of most of my stuff it was because of a strong desire to feel light and being able to move easily. I think this is your reason, too, as you said before. But in your situation it’s difficult because you have to deal also with things you didn’t ask for (the stuff that was already there and has to stay because of other people‘s feelings. So my first impulse was: Take all the furniture and stuff out that doesn‘t belong to YOUR idea of the appartment and put it in a room you maybe don’t use that much (if there is one) and lock it. In my opinion I would rather accept having less space to live in (by turning one room or just a part of one room into a storage) than having to see stuff all the time that isn‘t mine. Maybe you also have a basement you could use. I really love your videos because you’re so honest and real. Have a great day.
@gracenevitt

unfortunately there already is a small room that is full to the brim of extra furniture and such. I should probably see what I can do to organize it (again) and see what else I can put in there though! haha

When I adopted minimalism, I focused so much on that label I put on myself and I ended up thinking so much more about stuff on a regular basis than I ever did...which goes against the idea of minimalism in the first place. Since I've given up the label minimalist, I've definitely obtained more stuff but I try my very best to be intentional about what I'm bringing into my home. And I find that now I don't focus on 'stuff' anymore like I used to when I called myself a minimalist.

Thats prob why I like watching you and the carla project 😂chaotic decluttering. I like the name actually lol. Describes you ❤ I think we are just so done w stuff weighing us down that we just wanna move on from it and skip to what we actually want. So I can understand the need to declutter and try to be more intentional and to also just save money just to get where we need to go. Youre doing good girl! Keep it up!

Hey Grace, new subscriber here! I have definitely had the same feeling as you of wanting to throw away everything and start over. I don't have that feeling too much anymore, but it is still an exciting thought of a fresh start. I know what you mean about certain influencers who show the more 'aesthetic' version of minimalism which is not realistic for most people - and is even wasteful! Minimalism is what you make it and no number of material objects will make or break what defines you as a minimalist. I love this quote: ""Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful. " from William Morris I think that should be the real definition of minimalism, only owning what brings you joy and/or is functional for your life... no matter how many things that might mean. 😄

I watched another vlog awhile back where someone wanted to get down to their true roots in minimalism so they lived in a hotel for one month to learn what they truly needed. They talked about how they couldn’t pair down when they still lived in the same place where the used to have excess. The only way to break away from the remembrance of what they had, they had to move to a location temporarily that had nothing but furniture.

When I first started decluttering in 2014 I was SO overwhelmed because my heart really had a lot of trauma. I of course didn’t know this at the time and I don’t regret any of the decluttering. I regret (in a minor way) being so hard on myself and giving myself no grace. If I could go back I would still declutter (and probably even more than I did) but I would have more firmly adopted the “no thanks” mentality when getting new (or second hand) STUFF. ESPECIALLY someone else’s cast offs. I’d be a better gate keeper with what was coming in. I also sometimes struggle with bringing new stuff in that I DO want. Again I need to process my feelings. Ask myself “why do I feel this way?” “Why am I feeling like it is WRONG or right”. Really connecting with my feelings has been the most challenging part of living a more simple life.
@gracenevitt
@gracenevitt Год назад
thank you for sharing! I definitely relate to being a "gatekeeper" about what comes in. I've been trying hard to be very careful about my purchases and if this new item can reduce the amount of things I buy in the future. ie: I just ordered a kindle so that I can stop buying so many books! lol
@inspiringsimple
@inspiringsimple Год назад
@@gracenevitt I actually bought 7 books from the thrift store yesterday. They were $1 each and I felt those familiar ‘guilt’ feelings come up. It’s a real balance between finding the freedom to do what you want and also to try hard to be mindful and thoughtful etc. I have wasted so much time on social media over the last 20 years that I am retraining myself to read for pleasure more. If $7 of books helps me then I think that’s fine. Plus they were all books I could pass along when done or that would be great for homeschooling etc.
@gracenevitt
@gracenevitt Год назад
I think that's totally valid!! it's definitely a fine line to walk between buying something bc it's cheap and buying something bc it's healthier for you than social media! or maybe it's both! I found myself buying cheap books that seemed "interesting enough" and I still have about 30 of them on my bookshelf unread. I'd say don't be too hard on yourself if you have a plan to pass them along or donate after.

I feel exactly the same re the 95% decluttering thing! I feel like I'm always on the hunt to get rid of more as I am looking to move some time next year. Unfortunately I have different hobbies that mean I have 'stuff' and feel like I'm as minimal as I can be in each category at the moment. Maybe I'll change my mind in the future if I no longer use them, though.

Hi Grace I’ve just found your channel and subscribed I’ve been on a minimalist journey for one year now and I’m still not organised but I’m much better than I was a year ago I couldn’t get moving out my own way with clutter it was very overwhelming I’m hoping by the end of November I can feel in control of clutter and I’m hoping to be more organised and moving on to making my own cleaning and beauty products instead of buying chemical ones and hopefully add in some control over my diet by being more in the moment and mindful as I feel I’m cluttering my health it’s a journey one step at a time it’s not a marathon but as long as I keep going and be consistent I’m hopeful I will get there thank you for sharing your journey

I decluttered my moms kitchen in January. But in her head all the empty space, and empty surface must be filled. She bought a lot of new useless things, and decoration that doesn’t match, but looks cute alone. All the cabinets are a mess. I’m done.

I totally get it!! my mom has been watching my videos and trying to declutter but the garage is still .... wild. maybe I can do a video on it the next time I visit her LOL minimalism or decluttering is a major mindset shift, and sadly, just getting things it isn't going to change the fact that she sees empty space as "space to be filled".. most people are the same way

there's a small room in our apartment that we use as a storage space basically, but it's mainly full of wood, things we're using for our renovations, and some furniture that isn't ours that we aren't using. ideally I don't want to get a storage space bc it costs money and I'd rather get rid of more of my stuff to make space for whatever's here than do that 😩

I loved this video. Love your content. So relatable. Ahh several things you said I'm just like YES! I've mostly donated or posted stuff on a buy nothing group. Some really great stuff haha as ppl have told me. But there have been. A few things I've tried to sell because just how much they cost and hoping to get back like 5% of what I paid 😅 but literally I've only been able to sell 2 things. And even though I could really use the extra $. I'm one bad day away from just posting them as free.
@gracenevitt
@gracenevitt Год назад
THIS!!! literally this!! I am so tired of holding on to my dang roller skates LOL I'm holding on until Christmas and then getting rid of everything. I just donated (instead of sold) some wool overcoats bc I was so tired of the space they were taking up 🥲 I'd say set a time limit (or hold on till the holidays like me and hope people will buy discounted stuff for their loved ones) and then just say goodbye lol
@rayeof_light
@rayeof_light Год назад
Yes!! Ah lol no one in my real life gets it. That's a good idea to put a deadline on it. I might do the same, around Christmas. Because when things are for sale they take up even more mental space than before.
