The ice from Velkhana interrupts clutch claw when you are too close to it

I thought Peppo did that on purpose.

AT Velkhana have a special gimmick of getting double damage when heads are up high right after spreading breath. so I guess ( basic attack + felyne booster + might seed + demonic powder) * red coating of LS * airborne (130% IIRC) * 2 .

No helm breaker; if you remember he uses his iai jump attacks every time he jumps off an ice chunk which is an Airborne attack

Evading and jumping attacks. A lot of times maximum might won’t apply to your attacks, especially with AT where you are constantly on the move. Even with lvl 5’s instant activation, there are better skills to go for. And, on top of all that, I believe MM is only affinity (correct me if I’m wrong) and with weakness exploit+ (soften zone), critical eye, and other effects, you’ll have 100% affinity anyways. It’s your choice tbh. I don’t main LS, only secondary. I’m a DB main, so I never even look at MM for my builds (obvious reasons) so I’m not too much an expert on LS builds.

Maximum might is really only good for great sword and HBG, which are weapons that don't use much stamina-and even then there are better options. You need to doge with longsword pretty frequently, so Maximum Might really isn't the best skill for LS.

MM is too expensive. I'd recommend even running just 95% and having utility or raw attack skills

In a way, yes. When a monster flinches while drooling, that's a Clutch Claw opening. So clinging on the monster resets the time it remains flinched, guaranteeing you a far wider opening.

I believe it hit the ice first so it considered it as not clawing the monster, but the claw then hit it and flinched it anyway

It's layered.

Because when you do that, you reset the time the monster remains flinched, doubling the opening time.

When you clutch claw a monster in that drooling state. It resets the drooling state giving an additional 4 seconds or so. I don't think this mechanic is explained in the game.

The stagger window last the same as if u tenderize the head. But he can do more damage with spirit slashes then retenderize

@@alexderksen1213 ah I see, I thought it made the stagger last longer cause when I tried to do it, I never had enough time to complete the combo to get a new charge, guess it's a matter of timing and getting good at it (never at peppo level but as close as possible)

Using clutch claw can reset the time of monster doing nothing but waiting there which triggered by dealing enough damage in a short time on specific part of it. The part which can trigger this mechanism is different among the monster,but its usually on their head.

So basically it makes the monster be claggered longer ?

Vitality plant is not in the TA rules. Just like stones and other usable items he can pick from the ground.

His ice blocks you from clutching onto him but this time it worked out on Peppos favour since he didn’t have to waste time by grabbing on then dropping down again

no its just velk's stupid ice walls working as intended

I think its the game noticing that if Peppo grabbed onto Velk’s head it would have put him inside an object so it chose to just not allow it, but i’m not completely sure. A similar thing happens when a monsters head is above an area that the hunter can’t get to.

@@scratch6402 I'm pretty sure it's not a terrain thing, but maybe you're right. As I see it it's like when velk's ice wall is in between you and the monster, the wall takes your damage and gradually breaks, that's what we're seeing here. The game thinks that peppo is trying to destroy the wall so the claw doesn't grab on but instead stops at the wall, but I guess the damage of the claw still goes through even though he doesn't latch on.

@@SaltyCalhoun thats one of the reasons too. Imagine the dragon running away to your palico which is recovering on the other end of the area. Would be Annoying
