That mistake might actually be a blessing . That coalescence trigger was quite the burst of damage uptake. Congrats on the brilliant run and WR Master Peppo!
AT Velkhana have a special gimmick of getting double damage when heads are up high right after spreading breath. so I guess ( basic attack + felyne booster + might seed + demonic powder) * red coating of LS * airborne (130% IIRC) * 2 .

Actually monsters are easier if you fight them calmly like a speedrunner. Don't be impatient spamming attack button. Be aware of every action you and the monster does especially if you're an LS user. I practice this with AT nergigante on basegame and I have improved a lot. Now my time is very close to speedrunners time. It's also easy to lose focus and go back to spamming attacks and being impatient so be careful
I noticed in your build that you dont have maximum might, is even the secret version of it not good? I'm a longsword main and I just want to know what skills I should or shouldn't be going for.
Evading and jumping attacks. A lot of times maximum might won’t apply to your attacks, especially with AT where you are constantly on the move. Even with lvl 5’s instant activation, there are better skills to go for. And, on top of all that, I believe MM is only affinity (correct me if I’m wrong) and with weakness exploit+ (soften zone), critical eye, and other effects, you’ll have 100% affinity anyways. It’s your choice tbh. I don’t main LS, only secondary. I’m a DB main, so I never even look at MM for my builds (obvious reasons) so I’m not too much an expert on LS builds.
Maximum might is really only good for great sword and HBG, which are weapons that don't use much stamina-and even then there are better options. You need to doge with longsword pretty frequently, so Maximum Might really isn't the best skill for LS.
I was really impressed until at the very end he hit velkhana with the helm breaker through the ice and just got bitter because no one should be that good... Awesome video but I also hate you for making me feel inferior
Amazing as always :) Why not Velkana gamma helm instead of pants ? For 3 coalecense plus great slots? Since stun resist is kinda pointless imo. Also 3 dragon attack?

Amazing job man, I watch alot of your videos and aspire to get anywhere close to as good as you, everyday I practice my counters with LS and focus more on closing in, lately been able to hit times like sub 6 on Fulgur or Narga, I'm getting there but hope I can be as good as you! You the beast man, love the vids keep em up!
In a way, yes. When a monster flinches while drooling, that's a Clutch Claw opening. So clinging on the monster resets the time it remains flinched, guaranteeing you a far wider opening.
When you clutch claw a monster in that drooling state. It resets the drooling state giving an additional 4 seconds or so. I don't think this mechanic is explained in the game.
Great job as always, but i have always wondered, why do you clutch and cancel when on you get the clutch stuns (dont know the exact name for that), does it make the stagger last longer? i saw you did it a lot on alatreon runs
@@alexderksen1213 ah I see, I thought it made the stagger last longer cause when I tried to do it, I never had enough time to complete the combo to get a new charge, guess it's a matter of timing and getting good at it (never at peppo level but as close as possible)
I can't figure out why you use the grapple but just end up jumping out of it at 1:40 ? I've seen a couple of speedruns where it is done and I just don't understand why. It does sheathe your weapon but you end up attacking with the spirit combo anyway. Could some one explain this to me please ? :D
Using clutch claw can reset the time of monster doing nothing but waiting there which triggered by dealing enough damage in a short time on specific part of it. The part which can trigger this mechanism is different among the monster,but its usually on their head.
I love how peppo just casually walks around Velkhana’s one attack where ice spikes shoot up from around her. If I were peppo, I’d be running around like a mad man. Or maybe thats just because I am a Dual Blades main who lives off of dash juice...
Its cool and all, but its kind Sad, every vídeo i see of people doing speedrun are using the long sword, I as a normal mortal in mhw Iceborne, Begin tô think the other weapons cant do what longswords do, and, I wont lie, its kinda Boring, i wish Someone do a vídeo like This but using a Gunlance or switchaxe, dunno.
His ice blocks you from clutching onto him but this time it worked out on Peppos favour since he didn’t have to waste time by grabbing on then dropping down again
I think its the game noticing that if Peppo grabbed onto Velk’s head it would have put him inside an object so it chose to just not allow it, but i’m not completely sure. A similar thing happens when a monsters head is above an area that the hunter can’t get to.
@@scratch6402 I'm pretty sure it's not a terrain thing, but maybe you're right. As I see it it's like when velk's ice wall is in between you and the monster, the wall takes your damage and gradually breaks, that's what we're seeing here. The game thinks that peppo is trying to destroy the wall so the claw doesn't grab on but instead stops at the wall, but I guess the damage of the claw still goes through even though he doesn't latch on.

@@SaltyCalhoun thats one of the reasons too. Imagine the dragon running away to your palico which is recovering on the other end of the area. Would be Annoying
This was amazing to watch. I usually start this run with a Gillie mantle so i can place down 2 bombs in the area then clutch claw and wall smack into bombs. Since I main IG I can easily dodge the rest of the attacks. This run was 60% faster than my fastest time on AT Velk. >.>
