Haha they all screwed each other over...how I see it. Barbossa was smartmouthed by Elizabeth in the first POTC, Jack was smartmouthed also by Elizabeth, basically everyone is looking at Elizabeth at 0:22 xD
They were arch-enemies and genuinely hated each other and wanted to see each other dead in the first film (so much that Jack literally killed Barbossa), but became frenemies after they were both ressurected and forced to work together against Beckett and Jones and did not want to see each other dead anymore, but still did not like each other until the fifth film when they became friends after Barbossa sacrificed himself to save both Jack and Carina (as well as Henry), and Jack was genuinely saddened and devastated by his friend's second death, although there was already a spark of respect between them before it.
DJ: Your debt to me is still to be satisfied! JS: Whaaat? DJ: Your debt to me is still to be satisfied!!! JS: Can't hear a bloody word he's saying, WHAT? DJ: YOUR DEBT TO ME IS STILL TO BE SATISFIED - JS: Bloody Hell, eldtrich curses can be a right pain in the - DJ: ONE HUNDRED YEARS IN SERVITUDE ABOARD THE - JS: Serves him right for cutting out his own bleeding heart. Bugger.
Watching this scene years later and seeing all the subtle looks being exchanged between Jack, Will, and Elizabeth for the first time is incredible. You can see that Jack and Will are in on each other's plan, and Elizabeth manages to catch on part way through. Truly masterful bargaining is going on here. Getting the armada there to face off with the pirate armada ensures that the pirates aren't off getting picked off one by one by Jones and the EITC, giving them a chance. By getting Will back, the pirates get info on the armada they're now against, and by sending Jack they have their most cunning and devious player on board the Flying Dutchman sowing chaos. Brilliance.
Never noticed this until I rewatched the previous conversation between Will and Jack and hearing Elizabeth say sometime after this "We need to give Jack more time" since he was looking for the heart on the Dutchman. As a kid, I thought she just outright sold him out lol.
@ Actually he does, when he cuts off the coin from the bandana he threatens Jack that he would spill the beans if Sparrow did anything to let Beckett or Jones catch on.
Yup. Swann and the pirates were playing chess, while Lord Beckett was playing Risk and Jones was playing checkers. Ultimately, the pirates won because they were willing to make critical sacrifices and Swann set up the pieces for the best chance at a checkmate, while Beckett was too focused on securing his empire and Jones on punishing Sparrow and lashing out at the world.
I can never take this scene seriously. Not even the almighty Davy Jones can look dignified while standing in a bucket. I'll bet Jack with dying to give him a shove XD
That is because before he didn’t need the nine pieces of eight. Now for his plan to work he needs all of the nine pieces of eight, one of which is in Jacks possession which is what makes him a pirate lord.
Barbossa also just needed the realis coin, that's the main reason he helps to bring him back. And while Jack was deserted on that island, barbossa could have just returned to collect that thing.
i mean they really dont have anything to say to eachother, besides barbossa was the old "Captain evil sea monster with a ghost ship" Now davy jones is "captain evil sea monster with a sea monster ship" it was cool that the took a break and did, "Captain evil pirate with a zombie ship", before they went back to another "captain evil sea monster with a ghost ship"
"No cause is lost, if there is but one fool willing to fight for it." (Jack Smirks) Boot Strap Bill was the last fool willing to fight for Jack's cause during the mutiny. It's why Jack smirks here, and why he was always committed to Will's plan of freeing his father.
Jack probably knew Bill well enough to know that he would be on his side until the end and would die if necessary. Now I wonder why Gibs did not share Bill's fate (attachment to the gun and lunging overboard with it) will only stay in Port Royal on the day Barbossa kidnapped Elizabeth. It's probably logical that he should get rid of all the people of the previous captain.
Beckett, as usual, delivers a subtle but under-rated performance. He is so enjoying watching the pirates set upon themselves, like he thought they would. He is more devious and simultaneously amicable on further viewings
Beckett is playing chess, but gets complacent and doesn't realize the pirates are playing too. In this scene the pirates come out on top. They get the compass, they get Will and his intel on the enemy fleet, and they put Jack within reach of the heart, as the chest and key are both on the Dutchman. Beckett gets nothing, he has no use for Jack.
@@nikunjdixit1175 It was because he didn't plan to get it back that time. Every time else was either a leap of faith that'd work out or well thought of plans. He truly betrayed it in that movie.
Wait so, how did he get into the bucket in the first place? Its clearly in the middle of the island. Did he like... jump? Or was there a trail of buckets? Or did they have to carry him while he's in the bucket?
Archangel, I am theorizing, but it is possible Jones or one of his crew put the bucket there while the sandbar was still underwater, and Jones just stood in it until the tide was low enough for the rest of them to reach the sand bar. It's just a theory though.
+al Mamlūk Right before the shot where this scene begins, there is another shot where you can see a few other buckets behind him, so I just guess he went from bucket to bucket till the bigger one
Beckett is such an excellent villain with a sarcastic manner. I can definitely see in a comedy sketch of the American War for Independence with King George III being the sarcastic one and George Washington just not getting it, implying that maybe the British introduced sarcasm in America to begin with, and how their rivalry lead to a confusing one.
I love the subtle little glances between Jack, Will and Elizabeth as they're all trying to get on the same page for Elizabeth to just have that: Ohhhhh! I see! moment :')
I will always love how serious these films are but then they put in light hearted moments like Davy Jones Standing in a bucket… with a trail of buckets behind him
“If you wish to see its grand architect, look to your left” Barbossa: *to the left* Elizabeth: *to the left* Jack: *everything you own in a box, to the left*
Love how Elizabeth knows Jack's plan. They need him on the ship to kill Jones so he gets what he wants (freedom and rid of Jones) and they get what they want (rid of Jones and away from the pirates life.)
For me its her working it out, you see after Will talks about fighting for his dad he looks to Jack and Jack smirks, after that just continue watching Elizabeth looking between the two of them trying to put it together until her eyes light up and shes like 'OHHHHH! I get what your doing' and offers the exchange :')
This is the Jack that needed to be in the last movie, the Jack that was always 10 steps ahead with his end game. Instead we got one that didn’t know what to do
Yeah I will never understand people who hate on Dead Man's Chest+At World's End. They were really well done sequels with excellent, well done scenes and acting. The effects are astounding-Davey Jone's CGI looks so real you'd think he was wearing something and they used CGI to make it better. Same with the crew. The storylines are great, the brethen court was awesome. I do understand people not liking 4-5 especially 4 (I am not a fan of it at all, but I actually thought 5 was pretty good) because of some odd ret-cons or lack of original characters/charisma the first three had, but "curse of the black pearl" by standards of dead man's chest and at world's end held in such a high regard kinda makes the first film overrated.
The second and third POTC flicks had some very obvious flaws, mostly with the overcrowded storylines and overabundance of "don't ask questions on what this is cuz reasons" elements. But yeah, I think they were definitely over-hated during their time. At the very least, they still felt like they belonged together with COTBP, and were elevated courtesy of some great scenes and Davy Jones.
2 and 3 had very nice scenes but the moment you start to think, your brain hurt. 1 is a solid good film, with a superb story and characters with real motivations. I can enjoy the 2nd and 3rd if I looked at individual scenes and its visual styles. But I also hated the potential loss when they destroyed the characters and turn the plot into an mess.
I had always remembered Davy Jones standing in a bucket during this scene, and it made sense to me. But this is the first time I've noticed the line of buckets he had to walk through to get to that spot, and I haven't been able to stop laughing for ten minutes. Which genius came up with that? I imagine half of the writer's room rolling on the floor at the mental image, and the other half trying desperately to keep a straight face while they explain that this is a serious scene, not the place to be inserting comedic easter eggs... But damn if the image of Davy Jones awkwardly stepping bucket to bucket isn't just too funny. Scene: Beckett takes Jack away from the hostage trade. Jones (menacingly): Hm-hmm... I'll have me vengeance upon ye now, Sparrah... Jack subtly picks up the next bucket and moves it just barely out of Davy's reach. Beckett sees it, stifles a laugh and walks on. Jones: (sigh) Real funny, guys. Come o-on, put it back...
This movie was seriously confusing as fuck for me. Everyone making agreements with everyone, everyone betraying everyone, at some point I lost the ball and fucking forgot what was the initial goal of each one....Complete mind fuck
Trollie McG Of course and here's the 200 IQ guy, the special snowflake. Well if you're that smart bro I guess I'm not even close to you, so yeah. What can I say?? I bow to your ingenuity
+Trollie McG, to quote a comment on who's doing what in the movie: Jack needed the heart of Davy Jone to bargain with him. Davy Jones killed Jack Sparrow by dragging him and his ship to his locker in order to satisfy his debt. The heart ended up with Lord Beckett, who uses it as leverage to command the Flying Dutchman because no pirates can outrun the Dutchman. In order to save themselves, Barbosa decided to release Calypso. This was also because Calypso(Tia Dalma) brought Barbosa back from the dead in the first movie. Since releasing Calypso required all 9 pirate lords, Barbosa had to travel to Davy Jones Locker to get Jack Sparrow back. Since Lord Buckett controls Davy Jones heart, Jack makes a deal with Beckett to lead them to the pirates in exchange for not handing him over to Jones. He sends Will to lead them to the pirates, and Will uses it as leverage to negotiate his father's freedom, who was serving on the Dutchman. Elizabeth stood on the pirate's side because Beckett killed her father. Once they find the pirates, Beckett breaks his promise and Elizabeth hands Jack over because he's a traitor, and Will stays with Elizabeth because he loves her. Barbosa protests because he needed Jack to release Calypso, but when the handover occurred he steals Jack's pieces of eight. In the end both Will and Jack realized they could not bargain with Davy Jones by threatening to stab his heart because he who stabs the heart must take his place, and neither Will or Jack was prepared to do this, and Jones know it. In the end Will was forced to stab the heart as he was dying. Yeah, that movie was a walk in the park, mate. Walk in the park...
With Davy dead, and Beckett shot, the armada rushes into the pirate fleet and instantly pwns them all, the flying Dutchman gets destroyed by the anger of calypso, and our pirate friends turn on eachother
just shows you didnt get the point of this entire scene. they manipulated becket into sending ONLY the flying duchess, and got jack on the ship so he could become its captain before they have to face the rest of the armada. if they didnt do that, the entire armada of the company wouldve simply steamrolled them
She knew that. What she was doing was giving him a chance to find the Dead Man's Chest. Also, she was planting an agent of chaos aboard the Flying Dutchman, thus weakening the most dangerous ship in Beckett's fleet.
This is a key example of the Chronic Backstabbing and Convoluted Plans Disorder (CBaCD) that plagued... oh who am I kidding, was the comedy of this film. Try keeping track of ANYONE's alliances through it, I dare you.
Challenge accepted. Will betrayed Jack to Sao Feng in exchange for the Black Pearl. Sao Feng betrayed Will to Beckett for the Pearl, and the latter didn't honor the agreement. Jack made a deal with Beckett to betray the Brethren Court to the EITC. Will made a deal with Davy Jones to kill Calypso in exchange for Bootstrap's freedom. Tia Dalma resurrected Barbossa in exchange for her release as Calypso. All of these alliances collide in this scene. Boom.
🤣😂🤣 Always makes me laugh how Elizabeth is always pissed off and shocked when Jack betrays or misleads or lies to them. You'd think by now she would expect it
I wonder who rowed Beckett and the others back? I can imagine Will doing that hard work to get there, but on the way back, they had swapped him for Jack instead. Beckett definitely doesn't feel like the one to do such hard labor, and Jones only has one hand xD Was probably quite a scene when they all got in the rowing boat
@@thahoule7924 You mean the mind-blowing retconning mess that was that after credits scene? Davy Jones literally died because his curse was passed on to someone else, but breaking all curses somehow brings him back from the dead... as his cursed octopus form... what? That didn't happen, in fact POTC 5 as a whole never happened.
I bet the writers for this scene were like "Let's have all these guys meet! It'll be so cool!" "Wait, Davy Jones can't walk on land." "Shit...maybe we can put him in a bucket of water? It'll be funny?"
Jack seems to be proud of Will. He's become a full grown pirate like Jack insisted back in COTBP. Pirate blood was in Will all along and Jack admires that. ^^)
That moment we all realized that Beckett and Will said "You grab an arm and a leg and I grab the other" and Davy Jones had to trust them not to drop him.
i still love the idea that Jones is in a bucket with a trail of buckets behind him. when you really think about it there was probably a process over the years of him figuring out and experimenting with loopholes of his curse
just shows you didnt get the point of this entire scene. they manipulated becket into sending ONLY the flying duchess, and got jack on the ship so he could become its captain before they have to face the rest of the armada. if they didnt do that, the entire armada of the company wouldve simply steamrolled them
A good deal why these movies worked was the quartet of Barbossa master tactician, Jack the trickster, Will honorable and Elizabeth longing for adventure they all had their motivation and played well off each other
omg i love jacks reaction to everything. so funny... missed the best bit out the though i think 'do you fear death' 'you have no idea' rofl oh i love jack
I love how Jones dares to throw that intimidating look right after having to stand in a bucket, after having to get there steping in other little bucket.
