Suzuka does generally have the deepest/richest voice of the girls, but she plays it up somewhat for this particular song. OTONABLUE is a pun in Japanese on a phrase that basically means "acting mature", with the lyrics meant to be from the point of view of a young girl wanting to be viewed as grownup and mature. To add to this idea of acting older than they are, the sort of old fashioned synth sounds in the song are reminiscent of Showa Era pop music (particularly the 70s and 80s, including stuff like city pop), which was a period that had a lot of female singers with deep smooth voices like Suzuka's.
1:23 "they feel very weird but they feel very true to themselves" ...is a sentence worthy of another recommendation: ATARASHII GAKKO! & Warren Hue - Freaks
I love them so much and I actually went to their concert last week! Best experience in my entire life by far I think Kanon looked directly at me at one point (my delusional ass)
Atarashii Gakko No Leaders (New School Leaders) was formed in 2015 by Asobisystem. Mizyu (the one with two ponytails) had already worked at Asobisystem as she was a back up dancer to Kyary Pamyu Pamyu and Rin, Kanon and Suzuka joined her. They do all their own choreography and also create dances for other groups, here they actually cut out some of the more explicit "phallic" bits of the dance and introduced a mime of a flower opening with a surprised look. It seems that their agency gives them quite a bit of artistic freedom and they do side projects in dance, art, video and Rin DJs. The school sailor uniforms were chosen when the members were all still in school (8 years ago) to show that they were representing Japanese youth spirit and the retro style matches the retro tone of some of their music. Otona Blue (Adult Blues, blue is also associated with youth and immaturity in Japan and otonaburu means "acting like an adult") is about "teenage awakening" ie the awareness of desire in others and their own desire to grow up and experience adult emotions. AG wrote the lyrics themselves when they were younger and I think it's an honest expression of their feelings as they approached adulthood, which can make people uncomfortable. But AG never shy away from difficult subjects. Suzuka has the strongest voice and biggest personality and she's the natural lead in concert situations, but in smaller and quieter performances all the members can shine as each one has a good voice. Suzuka and Mizyu tend to take the lead in interviews...Mizyu is the oldest and worked with KPP so I think she has some seniority. They just played their first stadium concert in Japan and are currently on a short N.American tour playing in small venues. Check out some of their live concert in NYC. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-LHJQ6ZL9Ak8.html
Wow! I don't think I could have guessed in a million years how that video was going to go but I loved it. I'm about to go look up more of their music cuz I really like their voices and talk about energy I also looked up their ages cuz them lyrics were sending me (they are 21 to 25) but I agree with your interpretation.
They wrote this as teenagers as they were exploring heading to adulthood but still not mature. AG faces issues head on and have many songs that explore social issues. The mv for Koi Geba is especially powerful as it deals with teacher/student affairs in Japan. Plus the song just slaps.
@@tackle47 thank you! I checked out Koi Geba just now and the MV and message was really impactful even without the lyrics and then checking out the lyrics that really added to it. There definitely doing something different I'm really intrigued.
@@MssMercedes treat I am mostly a metal fan and live a lot of Japanese metal bands. Couple of years ago kept seeing AG in RU-vid recommendations. Boom 2 years later never thought I could be so into a non metal or rock band. Enjoy exploring their music.
@@tackle47I know what you mean, I’ve said before that I’m sometimes surprised at how many “metal heads” (myself included) that like AG, their sense of humor and choreography are captivating, not to mention catchy music and their diverse sound.
@@MssMercedesthe lyric and the scene of koi geba are a bit different tho. the scenes tell that the relationship is happening, but the lyric is actually about the girl's inner-conflict if she should confess her feeling to her teacher or not, and questioning if her feeling towards her teacher is right or wrong. so it is not about a teacher har*ssing his student, like some comments suggested in the video.
You were pretty much spot on with the lyrics interpretation! atarashi gakko are always a blast, I hope you do check them out more in the future :)) if you're ever looking for anything else new on the first take, I highly HIGHLY recommend pretty much anything that queen bee has there !! two of the songs they've performed are anime openings/endings -- fire and mephisto (for dororo's opening and oshi no ko's ending respectively) -- and come to mind since you mentioned, but their vocalist is AMAZING imo so I don't think you can go wrong regardless with them lol
4:23 i think this is pop genre, but they also do MANY other genres too! Like: Rock, Funky, HipHop.. Example: SaisyuJinrui, which meets with Rock genre. I also recommend listening/digging into their songs more. They’re amazing. Best thing about them is that they sometimes write their own songs, and mostly even do and write their own choreography too! I’ll give you some stuff about them if ure interested🌚: 2 months ago, they completed their first ever arena concert! They used to be in past kid groups and also models when they were kids Mizyu (twintails) was actually a backup dancer for the famous singer, Kyary Pamyu Pamyu when she was little!! Suzuka has a deep voice, but her scream is the opposite of deep voice LMAO If youre wondering how old they are, they are all above 20! I’ll give some ages from oldest to youngest: Mizyu: 24 (turning 25 on the dec 22) Rin: 22 Suzuka: 22 Kanon: 21 ok more facts uwu: New ag fans always think that Mizyu is the youngest, since shes super short af Suzuka is the main vocalist, but obvi every member sings too! Mizyu has 4 solo songs. Which are: Wakaranai, Toumei Girl, Amayo No Seppun & Chirachirachiramii Shiken Toujitsu! ok thats all, ion wanna get anything personal involved soo yeahh🌚
just shot a Music video with Atarashii Gakko 4/18/24, after they just played Coachchella at a skydiving site in elsinore california they filmed some crazy stuff i play a cowboy it was an amazing and creative experience Talented ladies........ wish i could tell you what they filmed............... but it will be a secret kept.
These girls are very traditional ... they met in high school. They were all gymnasts. Together with their label they promote Japanese ways and culture in a fun way. They are wearing uwabaki (Japanese school slippers ... you take your street shoes off in school, and hamidashi socks)
