I bought this system and love the old school games! Pit fall Harry is my favorite. Glad to see a new firmware update. I was 11 years old when the original came out and broke many a joysticks. Lol

I’m glad I bought it when they just released it. It was a must-have for me. I never owned one but my uncle did and it was the first console I used (Combat, the first game, as you mentioned). Despite the original paddles flaw, I have enjoyed it a lot. Now it’s even better. Finally, I have to say that your review video is excellent!

Thank you for the firmware instructions! I used them for my Flashback 12 Gold. I was also having a problem using my own ROMs. None of them would work. After watching this I realized the problem was that they had spaces in the names. They would try to start, but then would exit back to the menu screen. After removing the spaces they worked, save for Space Invaders and Frogger. They're still not working, so I'm going to try downloading the ROMs from a different site and try them again.

Very welcome, thank you for watching! Make sure the rom ends in .a26, I have had success with .bin files also but .a26 is recommended. Just make sure the filename doesn't exceed the character limit and no spaces and you should be able to get SI and Frogger working (both work fine here).

@@WagnersTechTalk Woo hoo! I realized that with Space Invaders the name was just too long, so I took out a few characters and it then worked! But no matter what I tried I couldn't get Frogger to work. Then I tried a .bin file. Thank you for mentioning that you'd gotten them to work, as that did the trick! Now I have Frogger working perfectly, and actually nearly burned my dinner in the oven while playing it. 🤣 I'd played it a few times with my Raspberry Pi using an emulator, but it's just not the same playing with an SNES like controller. Thanks for the help! Though I don't think it will work, I'm going to try Galaga anyway. I know it's from the 7800, but still. If I can't, Galaxian is still fun to play.

Looks good. I have the 50th for the switch and wish we would have got some of the games on that, that were on this one. Guess At Games had more of a budget to get games other then Atari published. Oh well.

Nicely done 🏆 my question is always the same. You make it seem perfect gameplay. Would you say the games play without any real timing issues like lag?

The only real issue I encountered was prior to the firmware update, the paddles didn't spin evenly but was addressed and mentioned in this video to apply the firmware update first (x2 different methods discussed here: wagnerstechtalk.com/fbgold/#Firmware_Update ). As long as the firmware update is applied, it was exactly as shown and a very good experience. All controllers are wired and no noticeable latency.

Thank u for this video, very informative. RE: adding games via USB, I have followed your instructions and the instructions from GXG. But, After I copy roms into game folder in root of USB drive, and connect via OTG cable, I do not see Ext. USB Drive in the left side menu. I have tried this several times with no luck. Any additional tips you may have? I am dying to play Berzerk & Defender & 2600 Space Invaders🙂

Very welcome! If it's not working, make sure the USB stick is formatted as FAT32 otherwise the console won't be able to detected it. The full steps may be found here: wagnerstechtalk.com/fbgold/#Adding_More_Games with a link to using Pi Imager to format as FAT32 (if the USB stick is >32GB, otherwise Windows can do it). Then, create a subfolder called "Game" and put all your games into this one subfolder. Make sure there are no spaces in the filenames and 13 characters or less. If the above doesn't work, try renaming the subfolder from "Game" to "GAME". Let me know what happens and what the issue is if I need to update my instructions but I documented what I did, so should be good.

I don't have an extra set of paddles for my original console to test on the FB Gold. I don't have an answer for you right now. I'll try to find out, if I do I'll reply back.

I checked with AtGames and they verified that all 4 paddles will work. Assuming you're on the latest firmware (see guide in the video description if not), load up the game and install all 4 paddles then game select or reset/start from the console once the game has been loaded to play.

I can't wait to buy this now that I've discovered it! I miss my favorite game Kaboom! so much. Questions...1. Is there a way to add the new firmware without a computer? I don't own a computer. 2. Any way to get the controllers to be Bluetooth?

You'll need a way to download the firmware and copy it to a USB stick (phone may work, not sure). Then, use this method without a PC: wagnerstechtalk.com/fbgold/#Alternate_Firmware_Update_Method . Regarding #2, no they are wired controllers. There may be 3rd-party wireless options available, but I'm not aware of any.

This one did, but it only needs a microUSB port with 5v to power it. Most have plenty around, if it were an issue. Can't speak for others though.

I have a few 2600 consoles (my first gaming console/computer), but haven't sold any console in years so not really sure what it's worth today. That might be a good question on the AtariAge forums: forums.atariage.com/forum/16-atari-2600 or Atari subreddit: www.reddit.com/r/atari . Those locations are likely to be able to provide a better answer to your question.

I bought one of these when they first released after watching John Handcocks video. Im a little disappointed about the firmware update. I dont have the knowledge to do it myself. I wish companies took the time to make it right the first time.

There is an easier method here, if interested: wagnerstechtalk.com/fbgold/#Alternate_Firmware_Update_Method . It's basically copying the firmware to a USB stick and powering it on. But, it does require a special adapter. If this something worth trying to you.

So frustrated. I am to the step where the device is plugged in and I am holding the reset button and turning it to "on". The Android tool never finds the device, even though I hear Windows acknowledge a device is connected.

I tested the procedure on two different PC's and it worked fine here. Could be something else on your machine interfering with it. Try temporarily disabling your antivirus and see if that has a positive impact, or a different computer (if you have one available).

@@WagnersTechTalk Thank you. I tried it with anti-virus off and a second PC. Same issue. Windows recognizes a device is connected via USB but the loader never finds anything. Any other ideas on how to get this firmware?

I didn't document it previously as it requires a separate OTG adapter. However, given the issues you're having it made sense to document this method. I hope it helps!

You say to "Plug the OTG cable microUSB connector into the console, the power microUSB into the female end of the OTG adapter." What is the "power microUSB?" Is that part of the OTG cable I got from Amazon? I don't see a way to get the power to the console if the OTG cable is plugged in. There is no other microUSB port.

I don't own an Atari 2600+, so please double-check me on what I'm about to say. * The Atari 2600+ has 10 games included, where the Atari FB Gold has 130 built-in. * Both machines use emulation to play the games. * With the Atari 2600+ you will need physical cartridges to play a game, with the FB Gold you can't use physical cartridges. However, you can add a USB stick that has thousands more games. * There are some games on either console that won't play, mostly homebrew games (from what I've seen/read) * The Atari 2600+ is closer in size to the actual console (about 80% or so the actual size). The FB Gold is much smaller. * The Atari 2600+ can play both Atari 2600/VCS titles as well as 7800 game carts. The FB gold is 2600 only. * Both include a CX40 style joystick. The A2600+ has one, the FB Gold has x2 and includes x2 paddles. * Both have HDMI out. What is the best value, will depend on you and what you're looking for.
