Nice find! It's in such good condition! I've been looking for the Atari version of the 1977 version that I had as a kid at a price my wife won't notice too much. It looks like you have the early version. I currently have the later version of the heavy sixer that has a channel switch at the bottom. Internally, it seems pretty much the same as the light sixer. If I remember correctly from opening up my Atari when I was a kid (I was dangerous with a screwdriver even then) the early heavy sixer had the voltage regulator with a separate heat sink as opposed to being screwed to a plate on the circuit board. And those CX-10's are in such great condition. Again, if I remember correctly from my childhood, The CX-10 had bent rectangular contacts for the directions and button and it had a plastic plate on top of the circuit board with little cups that held springs for the directions and the buttons. I think that's why they have a longer travel than the CX-40's. I remember getting replacement joysticks which by then were CX-40's and I didn't like them because I was used to the CX-10's. If only my parents hadn't thrown away all my old stuff, I think I would be able to fix them now.
I think this is the pong game machine my cousins had that I played with. I remember how much fun we had playing against each other! Pong is definitely fun to play against someone else even today!
Interesting how they implemented color on this. Apparently they modulated the black and white output with a frequency just enough off from the standard color carrier frequency to get about a 270-degree color shift from one end of the screen to another. Very economical way to add some color.
Great video Willie! I never saw these as a kid, so to see one via video up and running is a real treat. If I went to flea markets in the early 80s (1980 to 1984) I probably could have bought one for cheap lol.
Awesome review ! Love your passion for these old games... I have a Telestar pong that has been in the family for years and was handed down to me.... I also have Bentley Pong system but not the Atari one you show in this video. Such amazing, classic games !
Hey Willy i have been watching your videos for years ive been depressed lately and your gameplay videos are funny. Im a 43 year old man and i feel better watching you and laughing with you. I just wanted to say one of my favorite things you do is says Rat's alot.So i was thinking of getting some shirts made that say Arcade U.S.A With your picture and you saying Rat's..lol thanks for making my day...
I'm 25 ... that being said I went to a retro gameing store & bought the original console but I have to ask Am I the only one who has found a pong game console that came with sticker kinda accessories for the tv screen?!! Where back in the day you could play soccer/hockey or something like that instead of watching the ball go back & forth from a black&white screen .. I feel like a Mandela effect or some shit .. make me wanna look in my old room for the box I know I ain't tripping You stick those accessorie things on the t.v & it was like a whole new game on the t.v screen
Did they use any of the chip circuitry in the Atari 2600? Thr color gradients just make me think that because loose associstions are cool! Nice video, and it IS nice to see a slice of the 70s and their styles -- thanks!
Hey there! I'm studying Digital Film Production and am on the finals project, doing a documentary if we might be living in a simulation. Is it OK if a use a few seconds of your material? The final clip will not be monetarized or even published, except in my university in SAE Cologne. It would be a great help and of course I'd send you a copy or link ;-) Greetings from Germany Gee
