My prediction of yellow & green was based off the fact that all throughout Treasure yellow & green show up as secondary colors. For example- the yellow tiles in "Treasure", the green details in their clothes for Map to Answer, the yellow tent in "Illusion", the green curtains in "Answer", the color corrected green trees in "Aurora", the yellow in the One to All album cover, etc. One to All, and particularly "Wave", is where, in my opinion, yellow and green show up in the most predominant way. Especially if you examine their clothes in the sunset scene and watch the performance teaser. And we know Ateez has had a theme of refrencing their old work. I believe this next album will have some significant connection back to One to All (which makes sense because it's going to be another summer album), and the storyline will continue through this yellow-green thread!

Thank you 😊 Lol I actually figured this out on accident. I was streaming "Wonderland" a few days after it came out and was reading the comments. Someone had made some joke about Hongjoong and Mingi switching hair colors. I remember thinking that the comment was sort of dumb, because like... lots of the members had previously had red/blue hair, not just those two. And then I remembered how when "Treasure" first came out everyone referred to Hongjoong as the 'red rapper' and Mingi as the 'blue rapper'. And then I remembered how all the promotional stuff between "Illusion" and "Wave" had been red/blue. Then I watched "Wonderland" again, and it hit me like a semi-truck full of bricks. Props to KQ 👏.

I haven't even watched the long version yet and I'm obsessed with the colours now too. I'm seeing red and blue everywhere. It probably stuck so easily, because it makes sense. It really does seem like they have been super purposeful about many choices, and I always subconsciously noticed it. But I'm on board to go there and become a colour theory Atiny! Now that I think about it Inception is predominantly blue and becomes completely red in Seonghwa's highnote and the dance scene in the classroom. While I'm the one is just predominantly red and turns blue in Hongjoong's scene.
I'm so happy someone has articulated what I thought was just my ponderings. The whole contrasting colour theory is something still relatively new and tbh while you see many kpop groups colour blocking, you don't generally see music and a full colour pair up between both their design team and their music team. It's definitely exciting, I think it's why so many creatives love Ateez. Even if it's subconsciously loved but the synergies between and the collaboration are no joke.
"Even if it's subconsciously loved", omg yes, I think it's really interesting because quite a few fans actually do pick up on this on some level they just don't know it. Like I've found fans typically have a preference for either red or blue Ateez. I'm definitely a red stan; "Desire" is my favorite song, "Say My Name" is still my favorite MV, I've always liked their darker concepts and styling and their more aggressive songs. But there's atinys who instead really like "Dancing Like Buterfly Wings", and One to All, and their much softer 'blue' stuff. It's even in their choreo: the super swagy self confidence in "Say My Name" and krump influence in "Hala Hala" vs the much more elegant and fluid movements in "Aurora". It's crazy amazing how thoroughly integrated it is in all of their content. Literally. Every. Single. Thing. You can analyze and categorize as either red, blue, or somewhere on the spectrum in between. It's super well done.
I think this Still holds up. As we are now on a Purple Album (Outlaw). N I am so shooked by how this analysis makes perfect sense, also you mentioned Alice in Wonderland- like with the hints we're getting for this December's comeback is amazing.

Oh this is fascinating! I noticed the color scheme but I will admit did't think too hard about it. But also seeing recently that Yunho and Hongjoong basically switched hair colors from last summer, if KQ also thinks of him as an opposite.
This is sooooo good & I love color coding thank you for sharing your thoughts here! I had never realized how prevalent those two colors were in their concept but it makes perfect sense (i was reminded of how during the wonderland era the only colored uniforms they wore were red&blue as well...) If I can add/suggest something to your theory though, I was wondering if the color coding didn't work with three colors rather than two here. While their album are all blue or red, both ep3 and ep4 have touches of yellow in them. The reason for this I think might be that yellow is both the color of the sun, which is very present through Ateez's discography, and of gold (=treasure). Their journey start from nothing in the desert (primarily yellow) and ends in that room made of gold in answer as they celebrate everything they've acquired. Following your theory, I would then like to believe that while blue&red represent the different sides to Ateez, yellow represents their goal/treasure/journey. Which would explain why they don't wear it, but are surrounded by it (Wonderland's photoshoot is also a good exemple). Yellow is also a color that's used to represent light, and as we know Atiny are "the stars" to Ateez. I don't know what you'll think of it, but I believe it would be a very clever use of the three primary colors if that were the case! Additionally: when you theorised that they might shift their color scheme to green and yellow at the end of the video, I immediatly thought of the teaser for the Crescent live which is mainly green&yellow. They said Crescent is the start of a new beginning for Ateez so... I suppose we will see.
I really really do like your whole idea of yellow/gold representing the treasure. And it does explain the All to Action cover. When I started doing the research for this I did kind of struggle with what yellow was meant to be since it was so clearly a secondary color (It's particularly prevelent in One to All). But there are some things that make me think it’s a binary and not a 3 color scheme. 1. Red/Blue are so so so so much more common and explicitly used. 2. Yellow doesn't show up in their lyrics like red/blue 3. I actually think green is just as common as yellow. It's the secondary color for Map to Answer. It's in "Aurora" with all the trees. And it’s really common in "Answer". I always attributed the goldeny glow of "Answer" to being reprentative of candle light. The main thing that does really throw me off is One to All, specifically "Wave", specifically the performance teaser for "Wave"- which is far more yellow/green than red/blue. In fact it's kind of like the only thing released that is not red/blue. My theory is that the same way Action to Answer had a lot of callbacks to All to Zero, the next comeback will be connected to One to All and be yellow/green. But it is kind of a stretch... and I'm most likely wrong.

I definetely do agree on the fact that red/blue is the opposition the visual direction focuses on, but it's interesting to think of what could the other colors they use represent as well (actually, i have no idea for green as of now? maybe seeing more of it in the future would help... also these aren't colors but i'm sure there is a lot of thoughts put into the way they use black&white as well, but that's a bit more classic.) I do think your theory for the next comeback has been supported in many ways by the online party? In fact as soon as they released the teaser I thought of ep3... The two parts of the poster seem like they could represent illusion (warm colors with hints of pink and yellow, a bed) and wave (green/yellow hue). I've also seen someone point out the music that plays at the end of live while the hourglass is filling up is actually crescent when reversed? I haven't verified it yet, but it sounds legit to me, especially since it's going to be a summer comeback. I'm curious to know what they'll do with it. Thank you for your answer!

Holy---! I did notice in each music video they do play with color, but I didn't think much of it, as I thought they were isolated events. And as a visual medium, color seemed like a give-in for them. But I was not expecting this connection! It makes way too much sense to be a coincidence. Also, you are right, it may not matter in the grand scheme of things, but once you know, it suddenly adds a whole layer that wasn't there before.

you are so right ! i watched the ateez fellowship concert and the lights they use were always red blue or purple !! also we could notice that the first part was mostly white and the second part dark like if they were halateez ! i dont remember quite well so i may say wrong, if you can you should definitely watch this concert !
I am a graphic designer and that why I love S. Korea a lot, because it provided me my quest through all what it have. I was always fond of science of colors,sounds,lights and this land taught me all. Note to Tiny Bug : I saw your Twitter banner,(it's my personal opinion)...K-pop is not a "movement"... it's just that their citizens are disciplined & believe in qualitative method..."they take absolute proper time to make it involved with all knowledge they have". They ain't have competing virtue thus, movement is surely a negative and non relatable term for them. You don't see even then they will perform this, that's their charm, that I love that they hold the righteousness by heart because they are educated about why/science of the sounds/colors/foods/etc. And which form of it, impacts the life in which way. "In short inner engineering" Watch them closely, observe them as whole, it's how they live, not to show off but to make right life.

I'm probably not going to do another video about the other members. I talk about HJ not only because he is the best example, but also because he's the EASIEST example lol, the others are a lot more complicated: SH- I talk about a little bit, he is blue for the most part, though often not 100% blue (like "Wave" where he's a sort of gradient blue/white/pink). He turns red for "Wonderland", and back to blue for "Answer". WY- Is pretty much always blue or purple. Even if you look at something like "Say My Name" his 2nd outfit is the most blue of all the members and the 1st outfit he is technically 'red' but actually he's dressed in black with like the lightest possible shade of maroon/tan for his fur jacket. WY’s 'evil' typically doesn't seem to manifest in red but in black. He’s very blueish-gray in “Wave” as well as “Aurora”. Idk if there’s a reason for this or if his stylists just think he looks better in darker colors (they’re right, praise be upon them). WY also, I think, is one of the members to first start wearing green- he very obviously has green earrings in “Wave” and some green in “Aurora”. YH- I don’t know much about but I do think it’s important that in “Pirate King”, while most everyone’s colors (apart from HJ) are black/white, he is quite clearly starting to become red (his hat). The clothing colors can be really difficult to track unless you have a member like HJ or WY who are very clearly staying on one side of the spectrum. Often times members will be wearing a mix of both colors, and in pretty much all MVs there will be at least 2 outfits per member- sometimes one that is more red and one that is more blue (and you get really complicated things like Mingi’s shirt in “Wave” which is black, white, and has large red stripes and small green stripes, like holy. what. what am I supposed to categorize that as?!) I did go through and track everyone’s colors but I didn’t find much consistency or correlation for what they could mean. I think your opinions about the colors they’re dressed in and the meaning behind it is likely based on your own personal ideas about that member’s role is in the storyline. I do highly recommend people go through the MVs themselves and track their clothing colors, it’s really interesting. Plus there’s a lot of cute details; like a lot of times members will be primarily in one color with very bright contrasting sneakers (YS, HJ, San, & SH in “Wave”, YS “Aurora”). If anyone writes their own theory about a member’s color journey (or anything else related to my video) and tags it #ateezcolortheory on Twitter I’ll definitely read it.

I don't really consider myself much of a theorist (I just got lucky figuring this out, once you know about the color scheme it's really obvious), there's lots of other RU-vidrs and people on Twitter who come up with theory stuff that I could never. I do have several essays and scripts written about Ateez & their content that will come out eventually (lol I'm crazy slow at producing videos) but none of them are theory videos.

I have seen the theories about green and purple being the next colors. Honestly purple wouldn't surprise me all that much if this next comeback takes place after "Answer", i.e. after the combination of red & blue. But I personally think a lot of the green/purple evidence is circumstantial at best, I'm still holding onto my yellow/green theory. If you look back in the comments @Taya and I talk about why. But who knows, I could definitely be wrong. I've also seen their new hair colors (❤🙏💙🙌) but I kind of feel like this is a little bit of a fake out (and we are still technically in Treasure era so they're all still red/blue). I think we'll get completely different hair colors for the comeback.
