Fantastic - I've been doing gigs in Titanic conference centre in belfast here for 8 years now, and have covered more gigs than anyone on the scene there - I'm almost embarressed to say that I didnt know about Companion even though i have been using a stremdek for some time. I have a rig comprising of a BMD TV HD with 3 Canon XF100 and 1 XF400 camera, and have been streaming online for years for clients, as well as doing live events. This Companion software is a game changer, especially for the likes of the stictly come dancing style events where I trigger all video and audio content from within Q-Lab. This might help bridge the gap between Q-Lab, my ATEM and OBS. thanks j
I'd be amazed if you still read comments from this video, but this looks really promising for me. I recently upgraded from a dual-boot setup to a dual-PC setup and I'm looking for ways to integrate the two as much as possible. I use the Stream Deck quite a bit in software development but I also like to game, so my work machine becomes my streaming machine after hours. I use the deck for stream control and for game shortcuts, macros, hotkeys, etc. so this will let me continue using it for both by controlling functions on both machines with one deck!
This is great! I was looking at branching out from DIT work on films/tv and found your videos, but it looks like this combination is perfect for everything.
Thanks John. Another really helpful video. We have a few upcoming events where we need to put video switching in the hands of content experts. The ability to very quickly reconfigure the panel to their preferences looks very interesting. We have a few Skaarhoj devices which are excellent, but I feel I need a bit more time than is often available when live on-site to reconfigure them.
Yeah the Skaarhoj devices are great if you want something that was built really well and is rock solid. Whereas if you want something to throw around a little, then the Stream Deck is perfect!
EXCELLENT. YOU CAN create a Favorite Button/tab where we can add the options we want (lower thirds, tickers, logo, etc...) and activate them all at once, just like the Hide all at once. But difference will be activate only the options we preselected to be.
I can't download the app because when I try to launch it, it says, ("Companion" cannot be opened because the developer cannot be verified.) is this normal? Is there anything I can do about it?
May need to go to Apple> System Preferences > Security and privacy, then click the lock symbol bottom left to allow changes, enter password (if prompted) and click the checkbox to allow it.
Hello there! great video. Do you know if there Is any foot switch works with Companionn that I can use to operate Atem mini the same way as with Stream Deck?
Out of the box there are no foot switches, however you could make a midi foot switch work with OSCulator. All companion buttons can be “pressed” with OSC
If anyone is having trouble not being able to see the updated buttons on your stream deck go to the Stream deck control application then on the bottom right corner click "More Actions..." then scroll down the list until you find "Companion Button" then click install!
Hey thanks for the video. I am not familiar with the Companion software, so it would be great if you could clarify the following thing. Would it be possible to pair the stream deck with the ATEM Mini in order to change the clips in the media player, for example? The ATEM Mini is technically a switcher but it doesn't have control over the loaded still picture in for the still. Do you think such a configuration is possible? Thanks in advance

The Stream Deck is connected to the PC. Communication to the ATEM is done over the network so you will want to make sure the PC and the ATEM are on the same network.

Thanks for the great video. I've been using Companion for some time now and I couldn't have done it without this video. However, I'd also like to use the Stream Deck app instead. Can I run the ATEM using the Stream Deck app and not running Companion at all?
This looks nice, this companion. Question: Is there any chance that it could select the previous or the next still from the Atem Mini PRO's media player? I've checked into APIs (as far as they are available) and apps and tools but haven't found this option yet.

If you install companion can you still use the regular stream deck features with the elgato software, or does the companion app override that? I have a stream deck that I use for some other bits that I would also like to ad a few functions for my ATEM to. I still want to be able to use it for the other functions too though so I wouldn't want to lose that in order to get it working with the ATEM.
Last time I had a play with Companion I don't think it supported OBS. I have my Stream Deck set up to predominantly run OBS but also switch inputs on my ATEM but I use the Stream Deck software as it has lots of OBS functionality. It would be nice to have more ATEM functionality that Companion brings like Hyperdeck control etc, but would still need OBS control. I guess I could get 2 stream decks and run 2 laptops!
Cool stuff! Have you figured out a way of 'clipping' 2 or more streamdecks together? Be nice to press the buttons and not have the whole things shift around.

As far as the buttons go, can you still custom design your own button logos and have it work with Companion? Or do you have to stick with whatever Companion's graphics are?
is Stream Deck the only choice for it? i find the ones with many button are kinda pricy. i guess coz it has a display for every botton thats why it is worth it?
I'm curious if you are using this (Streamdeck/Companion) with an ATEM Mini. I think setting up a Streamdeck with preferred set of buttons would be better, particularly if you are leveraging things like Chromakey, or the different Flying key buttons inside the ATEM Software control app.
Hey John....Here I am on this channel after you gave me help on the ATEM Mini video on making macros. I want to ask about macro control of H2R. I don't have a Streamdeck. ALL my midi control is done with a Novation LaunchControl XL. I have installed OSC for use in linking my LaunchControl XL to my ATEM mini; and, after learning it, I have it working quite well with the ATEM. But, I'm wondering if I can port the H2R software command strings thru this same OSC in order to have H2R controlled from midi button presses coming from my midi controller. Or is that a different version of OSC? I notice that the OSC you use with Streamdeck has a different IP address and port than when you I set it up with ATEM. Do you know if Companion has been updated or revised for the Stream Deck XL? There's a lot of empty buttons that, if you try to fill them, really mess up the process.

Fantastic. Very helpful. Just what I was looking for. Here’s another question. I want to create a macro that superimposes a graphic over one of my three cameras. When I switch to a different camera, I want the graphic to disappear. I also want to create a macro that enables me to have a larger size picture in picture with a portrait orientation. Both of these would be connected to buttons on the stream deck. Are these possible? Can you please point me to a tutorial that explains how to create a macro, in simple terms? As of two months ago I knew nothing at all about live streaming. The pandemic has forced me to venture into unproven waters. So many videos assume the viewer is already up to speed, but in my case, and I guarantee in the case of the majority of viewers, I need to be spooned step by step. I truly appreciate the time you take to put out this info and also being so quick to reply to my question. Thanks again and stay safe.
My advice is to get in there and play with the macros! I don’t have any content for now on that though. It would also be worth reading the manuals for any gear that you have! Hope that helps a little!
Hi john. Great work!!! Is it possible to trigger your h2r software on another pc? I tried to type in the IP address of the other pc in osc in companion (except the local host ip) but it doesn’t work. Or does it only work on local pc? I use companion with obs on the second pc which does work. Thank you!
Does it make a difference on the version download? I have Apple with their new chips. But I think the Mac(Arm) is the ships in the iPads and iPhones. The other option is intel but I don't have a intel chip anymore
Latest versions don't have an import profile option on the companion plugin ....how does one get all the companion buttons in stream deck without having to define one by one?
Is there a way to have a RossTalk command from Dashboard trigger a companion button? I have an ATEM setup to pass the camera video through to a Carbonite (necessary in order to have camera control and tally) but I would like to continue to use the Carbonite switcher. I'm trying to have the button on the Carbonite send a command to Companion so that it will also switch the camera in the ATEM - which would then give us the tally light. I see that when you switch on the ATEM, it also switches on the Stream Deck. I am trying to achieve this same action but by switching the button on the Carbonite. If you have any ideas, I'd be grateful. I"ve tried many times to figure out a way to do this with Custom Controls and GPIO, but to no avail. Thanks.
So I have the stem switcher on one computer and the stream deck on another, I put the up address of the atem but it didn’t work. So my question is how do I get the atem to connect with the companion app on different computers? Please & thank you

Is there a command in Bitfocus Companion that will make a video play in OBS? In the OBS presets there are presets for scene to programme which will switch to the correct program, but if the scene has a media source then how can you make it play. Even if in properties when you have "Restart playback when source becomes active" selected, it does not start playing when you switch to the scene using Companion (PS. I also want to find a command to set fullscreen projector to BDMI to ensure that my ATEM Mini Extreme picks up the video when it plays).

I believe a quick search on the Companion Facebook group will help. But I think you need to change the port to something like 4444. Took me a long time to figure out also!
What if there is a supported program with companion, but currently companion doesn’t support a particular action? How do you create a command from scratch? I’ll give an example, the free timer by IRIS... the software has features that are not currently available to action like: JOG 1 (this would add 1 minute)... I’m trying to use an example software that most people have tried
Companion is not working for me on my new iMac Pro running Catalina. I got it to launch and connect to my ATEM Mini Pro, but dragging presets onto the buttons on the GUI does not make those buttons show up on the stream deck. If I run the Stream Deck software, then, yes, the buttons light up with the choices made in the Stream Deck software. I uninstalled the Stream Deck software in case it was interfering with Companion, but no joy. Companion shows as being connected to my ATEM Mini Pro. All I get on the Stream Deck is a huge letter 'G' across a square of 9 buttons. The stream deck is also listed under 'Surfaces'.
@@heretorecord I just received Stream Deck and ATEM mini. But Companion cannot recognize both ATEM and Stream Deck. I put IP for ATEM, I disabled StreamDeck software....It is pity, as I could play with an emulator to control H2R Graphics. Any idea?

Works great but each time i start up the set i need to assign the buttons again to get a background color. If i just connect the ATEM and the Streamdeck it works but without the background so i can't see which channel is actual and which is in preview.
Can you stack to control switching OBS scenes and ATEM cam input at the same time? I.e. I want to shift to a different overlay and camera at the same time without having to press two buttons.

Question, I have a theatre production that I'm working on and it requires in excess of 40-50 graphic elements,( Stil plates, lower thirds, etc.) the Atem Mini software currently allows for 20 in their media store. Is there a way to have another 20 elements load into the atem software using the stream deck and a macro? I'm trying to automate as many of the processes as possible. @@heretorecord I am using a Hyperdeck for my video playback because it integrates seamlessly with the ATEM mini pro iso. I need the other 3 inputs for cameras so H2R graphics wont fit my application. I was hoping to find a way to to use their built in media player for stills and overlays and just automate restoring other saved media players so that I could effectively have unlimited graphic elements at my disposal...
H2R Graphics and it's simple and amazing, and I have a question. How do you manage to control the second Stream Deck without duplicating the interface, exactly as you show in minute 4:24
You just jump to a different page on the second Stream Deck. Both Stream Decks will have all the same pages, however you can just navigate to whichever page you want on each!
