When did Karl Marx become an atheist? What meanings did his turn away from religion have, considering it's embeddedness in the Family, the State and the Philosophy of his time? In this video, Michael Heinrich shares a few of his findings about the early Marx's relation to faith, and how it compared to the critique of religion in some of his brightest contemporaries, such as Friedrich Engels and Bruno Bauer.
This episode is the fifth in a series on the Young Marx with Michael Heinrich for TV Boitempo. He is the author of the biography "Karl Marx and the Birth of Modern Society", published in Brazil by Boitempo.
Produced by Artur Renzo, the series was recorded in Boitempo's offices in São Paulo, during Heinrich's last visit to Brasil. Video editor: Heleni Andrade; Portuguese subtitles: Leonardo Marins.
