Athens is such a strange beast. On one hand is has absolut stunning and beautiful places, lots of life , hospitality and friendly people but on the other hand such rundown and breathtakingly ugly places that reminded me of a nuclear disaster scenery.
The main problem with Athens is that due to construction laws you can't have tall buildings that exceed the height of the Acropolis. If this wasn't the case there could be skyscrapers which would free a lot of space for parks and public spaces.
@@cbarak72 Thats not a problem lol. The buildings in Athens are taller than they should be. The 7 storey buildings are the ugly ones, while the neoclassical 3-4 storey buildings are the beautiful ones. The beautiful cities of the world are those that dont have skyscrapers and have respected their historical beauty (Paris, Budapest, Florence, etc). I couldnt imagine a skyscraper ina close distance to the Acropolis. This would be an actual crime.

The footage was taken during summer, when most locals are usually either on holiday elsewhere or at an Athenian beach, so the city center tends to look eerily empty. Yes you pay if you want to park at the roadside within certain designated areas of downtown Athens but this doesn't usually apply to the rest of the areas.

Well each city and country is different don’t forget that Athens and Greece in general has gone through far more changes than the cities and countries you are comparing. It’s been through ottoman rule for 400 years that destroyed almost anything in sight and has been through two world wars and a civil war. It’s a very old and historic country and you should do some research before criticising. Plus the main tourist income in Greece doesn’t come from the capital like it does in most European countries. Greece has to offer so much more than just a classic European city which you can find anywhere in Europe, Greece is extremely unique and beutiful, with the 2nd best cuisine in the world (rated by google research) and beaches that you won’t find anywhere ales on the planet. So some graffiti is not that big of a problem when you have such a versatile and rich scenery and culture.
