Exactly! It literally looks like she’s out for a Sunday stroll through the park. I can’t stop watching her!

First 200 in 29 👍, last 200 in 36 😳 And that girl that led at the start went 61, 84 for her laps 😌

It's actually pretty interesting, but while this exaggerated, extreme positive splits aren't all that uncommon in the 800m. For example, David Rudisha ran 200m splits of 23.5, 25.8, 25.0, and 26.6 (first lap 49.28, second lap 51.63). This isn't an isolated phenomenon, every single 800m WR since 1976 has been run with positive splits. The reason for this is simple: in the first lap of the race, especially the first 200, runners are able to use anaerobic capacity to run incredibly fast, unsustainable splits without much danger of crashing. By the time 800m runners have entered their second lap, lactic acid has built up and athletes are mostly powering themselves with aerobic capacity, meaning they can't run as fast. This transition to the aerobic system is why it's not uncommon to see comparatively slow final 200m splits from elite 800 runners. However, while this probably played a part in the athlete in the video's slow final lap, I'm guessing the fact that by the final 200m, she knew she would win the race led her to slow down more than she otherwise would have. Had she had an athlete on her shoulder pushing her, it's possible she could've run a much faster final 200.

@@cryptic2610 watch the diamond league 800m final in 2019. Donovan brazier reversed the rules. Starting off in virtually last place, then somehow managing to kick past everyone in the end. Watching that race really makes me question if positive splitting is really the best way to run a fast time.

@@cryptic2610 While a positive split is common for high level 800m runners, the difference is usually between 2 and 3 seconds. The top runners went out too hard and it became a contest of who could die the slowest death versus who paced themselves the best. A split of 61/70 or so is straight up dying
