@hillerfit also great job bringing attention to the series. I've known Marcos name from the early days but never followed him so I think this brings the other opinions spoken attention
@alanpugh1456 I’ve got some other ideas. If you have any certain questions about the games or other topics I’m all ears if it’s something I have knowledge on.
Absolutely. Honestly, I had to quit watching any RU-vid video with him in it because watching him flex his muscles and try to act like the cute 7-year-old was getting obnoxious. The dude loves himself so much, which I have been saying by now for the better part of a decade.
I was at the athlete meeting as well, this entire recount of the “athlete/coaches” meeting on Thursday night is 100% accurate. Great video series giving insight to what happened.
I feel like there is a cultural difference between European and American athletes that made all these situations so much more difficult. To most Europeans it’s not possible to honor someone by working out, but it is possible to honor someone by protesting and saying F u to crossfit.
That last line…… So all you are saying is FU xfit. Roman, Jelle and others participated, but it doesn’t matter it’s a personal choice and a tragic event so there should be no judgment on anyone’s competitive decision. If you want to trash CrossFit don’t hide behind competitors.
I have been fiends with Marco for over an decade, he never pulls any punches and always speaks the truth whether you like it or not. He is a stand up guy with a ton of integrity.
I took the knee and the pausing to mean that "we are competing but we are grieving. This is a game. Lazars life is more important." I appreciated it. I was able to grieve with the community.
"Wasting time in this 4 hr meeting?" Hmmm... I think I would be more concerned if no one showed for the meeting, you know, being "smart like Tia". Or if a consensus was reached immediately to go ahead with the games. A man died. Anger, fear, desperation, lashing out, a knee jerk reaction not to compete is normal and healthy because it's not as important as what just happened. For the record, I feel whether you competed or not was a personal decision. I understand both sides.
1)I believe Greg Glassman said something along the lines of “men will kill themselves for points” and here we are. 2) No sporting organization changes things in the name of “player safety” until player safety concerns impact their bottom line. CF is, and will be, the same.
34:26 I was at the Games, and at the time, our group thought that it looked like agreement that the other teams would let Mayhem go for a minute in honor of Lazar in that final heat. Interesting to hear this perspective.
The point of the pound of flesh was that it was a judgement that Shylock couldn't enforce. He was entitled to only a pound of flesh for settlement of his debt from his debtor when he cut it he couldn't take a vein, blood, hair or anything else. He ended up with nothing..
Same thought.... Can't blame him. At the same time, looking back on how the event unfolded - not using it might have ignited the angry mob to form in the first place...
Say what you want about Tia but I truly believe her when she said if it was her “she would want the games to go on”. I also think she was very smart to not show up to the meeting because the decision should not have been left to the athletes.
It’s a bit harsh to criticise anyone on that day for any decisions or the way they made them as I’m sure every single person was in a state of shock. Most if not everyone tried to make the best decision they could
I’m not sure if this decision was more on Dave and that in the military (or exactly where he was, I’m not from the US) they Honor people with photos and thoughts not video. It’s not impossible to do in that short time but you do also risk not doing it well and it becoming cheesy or disappointing. I personally also find video way more emotional and due to it being 40 mins before the first teams came out would have maybe been too much?
This is so bananas. Marco is 100% tracking… “Naughty list” Mark Rippatoe, Rob Wolfe, … But to add to the list , James Fitzgerald …. Jeff and Mikki Martin…. Greg Glassman too now? Next Castro?
"I know there might've been more [of a tribute for Lazar] on the broadcast side." Nope. There wasn't -- it was pitiful on our end as well. We all felt it.
I'm still dissecting this post, but one observation I want to make now is the fact that there were people in the meeting, described as "prominent/well-known athletes" (interpretation: I have +1M instagram followers, hawk 4 protein shakes on my website & have a clothing line I'm starting), who apparently had a lot to say in the athlete meeting. Not surprised, I'd love to know who exactly they were, and have no doubt Detective Hiller is on the case.
So now that Luka has spoken up (if you haven't seen his post it's on Instagram), we can stop the BS rederick "Luka wanted the games to go on", "Lazar would have wanted the games to continue", "wait for the autopsy". The reality is Dave Castro told Luka you don't have a choice, the games will continue, then proceeded to spread the false narrative that Luka's family wanted the games to continue. Luka lost his brother. He didn't give a bleep about the games. Please read his post if you haven't. It's heartbreaking. Quit trying to paint Dave Castro as noble. He's not.
Hiller, thanks for posting this. I’ve gotten a little tired of all the videos about the games and the incident that if I had seen this in my feed I might’ve skipped it. Well done
@@lifeaccelerator he is from Miami. I have seen him compete since he was a kid. His body def had some extra growth. That 305 clear may have something to do with it.
The question should be answered… what would have happened if an American would have died or Tia etc… My guess… the whole games would have been canceled! 😞
That’s a complete assumption and I would bet that every American crossfiter would have supported the decision to continue. That’s how we are wired. Continuing on is the only way you can honor someone. What kind of honor is it to quit
You can hold a stong opinion without feeling compelled to damn every idea & every person that doesn't agree with you. Your arguments will be stronger and hold more ethos if you go further to ackowledge the reasonable logic behind opinions that don't align with yours. By broadly dismissing the intellect, reasoning, and rationality of dissenting viewpoints, we expose our own thinking as equally emotional, reactive, and irrational. You are a compelling storyteller and you have a knack for journalism. Thanks for the vid!
Marco kicks ass. Can’t say I’m shocked at anything he said but nice to finally hear some juicy details. Never knew of him before this vid, thanks for making this Hiller. You’re a good dude.
Between CrossFit Sevan and Hiller against the athletes and PFAA. With a few outsiders like this guy? Commenting on safety. First, he says that those who weren't in shape shouldn't compete, and then when they adapt safety standards, he complains why they didn't withdraw? A hypocritical CrossFit collaborator.
Remember in the 2020 games documentary Noah said on the bus that they should sit out the rest of the competition because Matt keeps winning and Matt says to him didn’t work so well for you the first time did it…
Wow just got around to watching this video. And this has been the most detailed and accurately representation of what happened that night. Thanks for putting his voice and the voice of the silent majority out there.
Marco: I’m not gonna mention any names on this video. Hiller: Don’t worry I’ll fill you in 😂😂😂😂😂😂 Hiller tells you the truth even if it’s not what you want to hear
Noah's been removing comments about him begging for the minute back in his two recent IG posts on Lazar, leaving only the ones stating he's commendable. Had no idea he was like this. What a fake.
I’m so confused. Now Andrew who hates - absolutely hates Dave Castro & Crossfit = now likes both of them, and just hates democracy and would rather everything in CF be a dictatorship ? His ramblings go nowhere - and he just talks in circles and can’t recognize it. Marco is awesome. Just let him talk and stop interrupting him. Just go back to making sporty Beth content, and let Marco talk.
I am looking forward to Pedro's hard hitting questions tomorrow with Pat and Brent.. Should be good. Also, not really shocked by Peak 360 acting that way. Marco seems like a good dude and these insights are nice to have. Thanks for putting it all together Hiller. 🦇
Its not shocking when you look who is involved. Noah was louding calling for Greg Glassman's head after the Floyd19 comment. He's the same one that Mat Fraser called out for hooking the sledgehammer during the CrossFit Games a few years ago. Does it surprise anyone that there is a double standard when it comes to his actions and behaviors?
I appreciate the openness of his videos and thanks for brining this to light. The athletes need a union and there needs to be an overall contract with the athletes and CF. No contract, no athletes. But the athletes have to unite. If they don’t they’ll always loose.
I said the same thing. Split the money evenly, throwdown like old school crossfit amd celebrate Lazar. Like hot shots 19 or handstands for Hann. How crossfit started, support your community. Tho I think the hunger for money would put weigh the death of a fellow crossfitter for most which is sad. Well I put in so much work. I should have the chance to win more money. Sad!

It’s ironic that some of the athletes want to hold someone (Dave) accountable for the tragedy. Yet the athletes want to stay in the shadows of who said what, how they acted, and beliefs they stood by. Accountability goes both ways, stand by what you say and do. It’s ok to name athletes for what they did and said. The fans/general public are at the whims of social media. I appreciate this video and the honesty and belief with it.
18:30 - Andrew’s point is well taken here. CrossFit is not the NFL. You don’t have a player’s union in CrossFit. While I understand striking the right tone/balance with athletes (because obviously you want max buy-in), you also can’t have a ship steered by committee. This was CrossFit’s Game, it’s their baby. The CEO should have been out-front.
2 big takeaways from this 1) this is why the CEO “should” have people underneath him. Those people figure it out and get it done and the CEO (Don) ultimately signs off on it or denies it. 2) the PFAA should NEVER speak or decide on emotion. That being said, if they want to play the union game, you have an eBoard, stewards, negotiator team and other committees. The fact that just A FEW are speaking AGAINST the majority, is a bigger problem and shows there is a CLEAR divide.
Man, it does sound like everyone was very self concerned. More about how they feel and their life and how hard they worked for crossfit to ruin it with a tragedy that was extremely unfortunate. Yes, it was very avoidable, tho it was still an accident. No one wanted it, predicted it, or is happy about it. Kinda messed up
15:20 - The legitimacy of the comp is an interesting topic… would definitely love to know more about that & what exactly that entails. Maybe a cynical part of me, but my gut take is that you had some athletes who are all about their image and how their followers see them (aka their business), worrying whether or not it would look good/bad if it was labelled “competition vs. exhibition”. Thankfully that’s not everyone.
Before I finish this video I’m pausing at the thanksgiving analogy. Which is good, but your Thanksgiving’s just gotta suck LOL I love my turkey, ham, greens, cake, etc 😂🫡
