Traveling this weekend by myself for the 1st time and my anxiety is thru the roof.. I hate looking foolish and having to rely on strangers for directions.. thank you for this Vid

Toni Korin don’t worry, although ATL is big it is very logically laid out and has great signage. Check in/drop any checked luggage at your airlines ticket counter, then head through security, then go to your concourse/gate. You got this!

I made it through other airports just fine but ATL is too big and confusing for me but maybe it was because I was so sleepy too early in the morning for me

Brian Ozment (Update) I did pretty good! 👍🏾 The worse part was the driving thru Atlanta to get to the Airport .. felt like I was in the middle of drag racers lol but my trip went smooth even picking up my car at one of the paid garages .

Toni Korin I’m glad it all went smoothly. I also find the traffic around Atlanta and the airport to be the most stressful aspect of flying out from there.

So who else prefers late night/early morning flights? I just like the silence and comfort of those late night flights. How quiet certain airports get and the natural serenity it affords.
@bozy106
@bozy106 3 года назад
I do prefer those 5am flights, there always seems to be calm then that isn't present during the midday hustle.
@billwalker7556
@billwalker7556 3 года назад
Yes absolutely. It is less busy during the early morning and late hours. Less congested. Peak times are normally between 9am and 9pm when there are the most people, flight arrivals and departures build during the day. ATL is a major connecting airport and becomes quite congested once inbound flights begin to arrive around 8am to connect passengers to outbound flights around 9-930am. Banks of arrivals/departures occurs about every 2-3 hours until around 9pm.

I don't mind red eye flights, but only if it's last resort. I have been on a 6AM flight before. Leaving Miami for Wilmington, NC. It was packed!

Im flying for the first time and its by myself out of atlanta. Ive been so scared of screwing things up. Like where to check in, where to find where I'm going. Im allowed a carryon and a person, so do I check both in? 1 in? None in? I am terrified Update: that was insanely easy. At least going through delta. It was so easy to find my terminal, security was a breeze. Honestly, I was blown away by how simple it was to navigate. If you're in the same boat as I was, it's gonna be okay, you got this. If I can do it, you can do it.
@bozy106

This truly calmed me down, I’ve flown plenty of times, although Atlanta is always the most confusing for me because it’s so big, but all last night I just felt sick thinking about it and over stressing, it’s my mothers first time flying, and out of Atlanta, alone, and afraid of heights and she is terrified, and I don’t know how far I can walk with her through the airport. Brian Moody the only thing I wasn’t able to show was the TSA check, but it’s pretty simple. You just do what all the people in line in front of you are doing when it’s your turn. You’ll have ample opportunity to watch them before it’s your turn to go through the scanner. Also the TSA agent yells directions out to everyone every so often so everyone nearby in line to hear.

@@pestoboi I just came back from my trip and I had to hurry to get to my gate due to the pilot delaying us at the airport here in North Carolina by making us sit a extra 30 minutes when it should have taken us only a hour to get to Atlanta being that North Carolina is a state that is not too far from Atlanta and I was supposed to get there a bit early. I rode on the train inside the airport which got to the area quickly but I still had a lot of walking to do to get to my gate but luckly I made it on time when I didn't think I would make it. I was flying out of Atlanta to catch a international flight which is why I'm thinking that's why I had a lot of walking to do once the train arrived in the area and the area was mostly where international flights take off at but I really hope you are able to catch your flight on time. Overall it was easy to get around and navgate in the airport but I hated being rushed but once I got back to the states and had my layover back in Atlanta, it was easier to deal with since the layover was longer this time.

@@dennydaisies5911 no, you do not have to ride on the plane train. Where you see me get onto the plane train at there is also a long, long corridor that runs between the concourses/gates. Many people decide to walk between the concourses instead of taking the train. Along this corridor in between the concourses are moving sidewalks every so often as well as various displays of art or history that are sometimes interesting to glance at as you walk by. I've walked between concourses before when I had a lot of time to kill before my flight boards or if there is a ton of people waiting for the train. If memory serves me correctly, it probably takes about 4 or so minutes of regular walking to get from one concourse to another.

Thanks for this video! I have some questions - is TSA at this airport really bad? I always hear horror stories about dealing with them, so I'm really anxious, as this is my first time flying! Also, if you get there earlier than 2 hours, can you go through check-in, TSA etc and then just wait out the 2+ hours at the actual place where you wait to board? How do you know what concourse and gate to go to? Does it say when you print your tickets? I worry so much about doing something wrong or getting lost and missing my plane!
@bozy106
@bozy106 4 года назад
I’ve found that the TSA checkpoints at ATL airport are about like all the other airports, there are just more security lanes and agents. Sometimes they make you take your laptops and liquids out, sometimes they don’t. They usually always make you take your shoes off, but not 100% of the time. They are pretty efficient at getting people through the checkpoint. One thing that a lot of people going to ATL for the first time don’t realize is that there are actually 3 different security checkpoints. There is the main security checkpoint (which is the largest), and there are 2 smaller checkpoints designated as the “North” and “South” security checkpoints. I’ve found that these smaller checkpoints are often much less crowded, probably because people don’t even know they exist. If you look at a map of the Domestic Terminal at www.atl.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Dom-Terminal-Mar-2019.pdf you will see that the Main Checkpoint is in the upper center of the map and the smaller checkpoints are above and to the sides (shown in grey). As far as checking in early, I’ve personally checked in and waited around 3 ½ hours at the gate for my flight to depart. As long as your airlines allows you to check in, you’re good to go through security and sit and wait. You will learn what concourse and gate you will need to find when you get your boarding pass from either the ticket counter or self-serve kiosk (whichever you use) when you check in. It will usually say something like “Gate C22” which would mean that you need to go to Concourse C and then find gate 22. As far as taking a wrong turn or getting lost, I wouldn’t worry. The concourses are very easy to navigate because they are essentially just long straight hallways with stores, restaurants, and airplane gates on each side. Also, the overhead signs are very simple to understand and are everywhere. If you re-watch the video, you may be able to see what I mean. I hope that these answers ease any anxiety. I remember what being a first-time traveler was like and still to this day I like to extensively research where I am going and how I’m getting there before a trip. That’s why I made this (and some other videos) to help those folks who want to know what to look forward to. I hope you have a great trip!

@@bozy106 The main TSA Security checkpoint is huge and congested but there are. many lanes to help expidate you through. TSA in ATL is no different than in any other airport. Remember millions of passengers transit the ATL airport daily. If you arrive in ATL on a connecting flight you do not have to go back through any TSA CHECKPOINTS again. Only passengers originating travel in ATL have to go through the TSA SECURITY CHECKPOINT. I have a question since it will be my first time flying ever and by myself this Friday When finding the gate you’re supposed to be at say you didn’t pick your seat when booking…how do you know where you sit? Will your boarding pass that you print just randomly seat you somewhere on the plane that’s available? Or do you have to go up to the desk at the gate and do something about it?
@bozy106
@bozy106 2 года назад
Typically (but depending on the airline) you will be assigned a seat at check in which will be on your printed order electronic boarding pass. However, Southwest Airlines operates a little different by assigning a boarding position which essentially assigns you a position in the boarding line and you sit at whatever seat you want or is available when you get on. If your boarding pass doesn’t have a seat number you can just check with the desk at the gate whenever you arrive there to wait on the plane.

Also how do you know which terminal and concourse you should go to?
@bozy106
@bozy106 5 лет назад
The domestic terminals has two sides, North and South. They are connected by an atrium. South is pretty much all Delta. The North Terminal is everything else (Southwest, United, Alaska Air, etc). If you enter the wrong terminal, its no big deal because you can just walk over to the correct one in maybe 2 minutes. As far as which concourse you go to, once you check in and you get your boarding pass from the kiosk or desk (whichever the airline you are flying on uses) the boarding pass will have a gate listed. It will be something like "C-10" or "E-22". The letter in the gate number is the concourse that the gate is located it. Once you get on the plane train just get off at the correct concourse, ride the escalator up and at the top their will be signs with arrow pointing the direction of gates. I remember being intimidated on the first flight I ever took because I had no idea what I was doing - that's why I've made videos like this to help others. Hope you have a safe journey!

If you only have carry-on luggage (less than 10x16x24 inches for Southwest) you can just print your boarding pass at the kiosk and roll your carry-on with you to the gate. You only have to deal with the baggage people if you are checking a bag. (I usually check my carry-on sized bag since Southwest allows 2 free checked bags per person - unlike other airlines). It was close to Mother's Day weekend and the restaurant was not staffed for all the people sleeping in the airport overnight so they could board those first of the day flights. You will also see the North baggage claim where travelers returning on Frontier flights will pick there bags up. I also have several different other ATL airport videos that may be helpful. The simplest bit of info I can give you is to pay attention to the overhead signs and don’t be afraid to ask airport personnel if you have a question, they usually have no problem with answering a traveler’s questions. Also, your boarding pass will have your gate number listed on it. It will be in the form of something like D-10 or C-22. The letter in the gate assignment tells which Concourse the gate is in. To see a good map of the airport concourse layout, check out the maps at Atlanta airport's official website at www.atl.com/maps/ You can also click on a specific Concourse in the map and it will show the exact layout of the Concourse, the location of each numbered gate and the stores/restaurants/amenities in that particular Concourse. If your connecting flights are with the same airline and you purchased them at the same time as part of a single transaction, the airline with "check your baggage through" to the final destination and you only pick it up at the end of the last flight. However I always make sure to ask if they will "check the luggage through" when I initially hand it over to in order make sure the representative is reminded to pull the special "transfer" tag on your luggage also. This tag is a visible reminder to the luggage handlers that your luggage's final destination is not the destination of the first flight.

Pick it up in baggage claim at you final destinnaation.

Sarah Hausman it is recommended that you arrive at the airport two hours before a domestic flight. Since most flights begin boarding around 30 minutes before the listed flight time, that leaves you about 1 1/2 hours to check in, go through security (which can be long depending on the day/time), find your gate, go to the bathroom and get a small snack before boarding your plane. I always arrive at the airport about 2 hours before and have never been pressed for time and have a few minutes to sit and catch my breath and organize myself before boarding. If ATL wasn’t so big or busy you could probably get by with less time but since it’s supposedly the busiest passenger airport in the world I wouldn’t arrive any later.

I went from Frankfurt Germany, to Atlanta Hartfield Jackson, to DTW Michigan, to Burlington airport, and let me just say, Atlanta airport was stressful and took forever to get to terminal E

That was actually my passport and not my phone. I could have just showed my ID since it was a domestic flight but since I paid about $100 for the passport I figured I would get some use out of it and use it as my identification every time I fly regardless if it is domestic or international.
