EDIT: So there's been a lot of confusion with the lyrics "you're a flicker of the second-born" the "second-born" referred to here is actually AZULA and not Zuko. I am aware that she is the younger sibling. She way she sings is ,as if she was talking to Zuko with a voice cold,direct, calm and quiet, reflecting her personality in the show and it is as if she was having a conversation with Zuko. Even the notes ads executed beautifully with a steady enforcing voice, still not yelling since she was talking to her brother. This is a masterpiece

This gave me chills. The slow Tempo makes her seem so much mire threatening. It feels like she's circling Zuko, looking down at him whike just waiting for the chance to pounce. Adore the lyrics as well. Gorgeous. Also? Her mentioning her blue flame is on of my favorite things, ever since I read that post about how the blue flame not only sets her apart as a special firebender but could also be seen as foreshadowing for her downfall, since it burns way hotter than red flames - burning her up quickly since she's running too hot.

When you consider Azula's upbringing and how much more Ursa gravitated towards Zuko than Azula, it probably didn't do anything to quell Azula's belief that her mother thought she was some irredeemable monster. And it certainly didn't help that being a cruel, heartless war machine was essentially all Ozai wanted her to be. So, she just gave into the perception and became the monster that she believed her mother thought her to be, and that her father taught her to be.

This song is amazing and the lyrics capture the villainous side of Azula so well yet allowing this one glimse of her real -broken and neglected- part to show up by the very end. I love that you captured Azula s arrogance and the way she’s slightly sadistic. And how she’s isolated by the way shes seen both by herself and others.

When azula says “I laughed when pretty boy couldn’t take his daddy’s wrath,” she was just projecting her insecurities. She doesn’t want to face her daddy’s wrath either. She begs her father at the end of the show to not treat her like Zuko. The fact that she does show empathy speaks volumes about her character, but she’s glad it’s Zuko and not her.

This song is absolutely stunning, I can’t stop listening to it. In the middle of it, she said something about “monster and psychopath” it made me think about what she said to her mother. The next few lines really made me think that she was singing to her mother instead of Zuko, which maybe shows how her relationship was greatly affected by both parents, not just ozai. Also, this was probably before the last Agni Kai fight, so it seems like she has embraced her title of a monster, which differs from that scene of her breaking down and weakening. Overall, gorgeous song. My friends and I love your music and you’re an incredible singer. Keep up the fantastic work!

And, Reinaeiry, I ADORE the song! I got so excited when I saw a notification for this. The song sent chills down my spine - so good! I am in awe at how you can pull of the purest and softest love song like 'After the War' AND this powerful declaration of an iconic villain.

When I first saw Avatar as a kid I always misunderstood Azula and hated her with everything I got. But now that I see her I can't help but sympathize with her. She had a rough childhood without any guidance or anyone who really loved her. She was going through emotional abuse from a really tender age . Her mother's negligence and scolding her and only loving Zuko hurt her and she did even more crazy stuff only to catch her mom's attention. But her mother never told her what is right or wrong but only scolded her. So she went to Ozai , the only person who praised her for her talent and power. Kids seek love so she followed her father and her father manipulated her without her knowing. She is the most sad and tragic character . But she never openly showed her pain and kept them under her mask. She was even younger than Zuko but had to go through a lot. Now I love her character so much. She deserves so much better.

Azula was scary because she was a real treat, she won't wait you to transform to you to beat her, she is a natural leader. If you want to know a power of a ruler, look for people he is surrounded. But a mistake that Azula did make was that the people who served her were based on fear, if she did take the time to create real loyalty this would never have happened. The fall of Azula begun with the betrayal if wasn't that the team avatar certainly would lose.

I can imagine her singing this in the final Agni Kai scene, showing her madness and anger more and more as the song progresses, while Zuko just focuses on the fight. Which would show how they roles kinda flipped throught the story

I'm not sure whether it's intentional or something that comes naturally, but I love how your music gives off musical vibes! You're very talented ✨✨

Honestly Azula is such a well written and complex character. She’s still a villain, we love her, are terrified of her, fear her, and hate her all the same. (This is about to get long.) (Before I get comments about hating her, I mean before her mental breakdown she was cut throat and ruthless, amazing at it. But not a very good person, easy to dislike what she’s done. I both equally love her and know she’s not a good person.) Anywho, the fact that she was basically mainly raised by her father and grandfather, as in her more sociopathic behaviours are praised. Her mom saw her sociopathic daughter as some kind of monster, but also was so focused on Zuko. Her mom didn’t know what to do with a child like that, which led to Azula mainly being conditioned by her grandfather and father. She literally grew up with a genocidal maniac as a grandfather, and a future genocidal maniac as a father. She eventually started showing similar traits. She had what she thought was control over most of the show, she did have some kind of compassion, and though most of the time she can exhibit rude, awful, and sadistic behaviours, it’s very clear that she was hurting so badly. “My own mother thought I was a monster...she was right of course, but it still hurt.” You’d pass this as a brushing it off or acceptance but really it’s super painful. Her mom favoured Zuko over her and it messed with her, before their mom left she said goodbye to Zuko but obviously not Azula. Azula is a product of her environment. Before her mother left she was looked at like there was something wrong with her, though her mom did love Azula, she just assumed she was out of her control and destined to be like her father. So her mom looked at her like some kind of monster, and through all of Azulas conditioning, how a good portion of the fire nation were just ignorant and blind to the fact that what they’re doing is bad, before Zuko was basically a wanted criminal he also was similar. He was blinded by how many people were actually hurting, and he slowly realised it. The difference between Azula and him is that I have a feeling Azula understood what they were doing, as Zuko spent time with his nurturing mother, then after she left being exposed to the cruelty of his father and sister. Then after the abuse, he was banished but then put into the care of his uncle, who even before still showered him with love and affection. It’s no surprise for me to say that Azula probably understood what she was doing, how bad it was. But at least she was of use, at least she was praised, and wanted. Zuko wasn’t as good as her, he wasn’t praised, and he was weak. (To her.) Azula knew her mom saw something wrong with her, and she saw what it was. Instead of trying to change herself to get her mother affection, she opted to the false affection from her father and others, praising her talent. Because she was a ‘monster’ in a sense. It was a cruel thing and she decided to be nothing more than that. Azula knew that what she was doing was going to hurt people. That her mom was right. There’s something wrong with her, and instead of trying to better herself, she accepted the title. Then she had Mai and Tylee. Who were her friends, trusted them with her life. As much as she didn’t really admit it, she depended on them, had come to depend on them. She didn’t know any other form of loyalty or affection then inflicting fear and making them stay loyal. So when Mai choose Zuko over her, it was kind of like, “Of course she would, look at you. Even your weakling traitor brother was able to take loyalty from you. Your mother was right.” But then Tylee who was passive in terms of their friendship and her demeanor, who Azula was sure that, if anybody wouldn’t betray her, it’d be her. When she got betrayed by her. It was an extra. “Your mom was right. You are a monster. Look at you.” But then there was the other part of her that knew her mother did care about her, that her mom just made that mistake to not try hard enough for Azulas sake. That trail of betrayal has to sting, her mother didn’t try hard enough with Azula, Zuko wasn’t like her and was seen as weak, even then we’d seen her care about him, whether at some point she’d be cruel, or disguise it with cruelty, she was still human, her two friends, who she depended so much on, and hadn’t realised how much she did. Then lastly, the one person she constantly tossed people away for, who she hurt people for, who she became that monster that the people closest to her thought/knew her to be. Her Father. Who’d been the person to praise her, teach her, raise her, give her that false affection, cutting her off from showing certain emotions, which she gave up. He, out of everybody that had betrayed her, at the very end, as she was mentally breaking, just revealed to be using her all along. The monster she had become and all of that pain and suffering and she didn’t even get to be with her father, who she depended on for that praise and usefulness. He gave her a title still below him, betrayed once again. Paranoid about betrayal, ended in banishing anybody who invoked that paranoia. And how sad it is, that in her final moments of any kind of real mental stability, she became that little girl who just wanted her mom. At the very end she just wanted her mother. Craved that affection. And she despised herself for it, was angry at her mom for doing this to her, and angry at herself for doing this to herself, and feeling these things. Not to mention she looked so much like her mother. She was only *Fourteen* years old. She’s the same age as me. She didn’t deserve to go through all of that. In general, and not for her age. She was literally a killing machine by fourteen. ----------------------- Edit: I’d like to add something a commenter brought to my attention. Azulon didn’t have the biggest influence on Azula, BUT. I did notice one thing. Azulon favoured Iroh obviously, and gave him more acceptance and probably guidance. Ozai didn’t get that, as we can see. It also sounds very familiar to Ursa with Zuko and Azula. The oldest gets favoured by one parent and the younger seems to be left out a bit. Which causes issues in the youngest, they end up finding their support elsewhere and in doing so develop even more issues. The different case for Azula is the events that happened to trigger her, and that while it seems Ozai still was going to do what his father wanted, killing his son. Now this could be just based off the fact he obviously didn’t like Zuko very much, or based off the fact that he still wanted to do what his father said for some kind of acceptance. Either way, it seems Ozai got what he wanted and his parent eradicated. And Yk, he was an adult. He wasn’t completely concerned with his dad’s acceptance, though it definitely factored in. Azula was again, Fourteen. She did care about her lack of motherly affection and not to mention she looked so much like Ursa she would see her every time she looked in the mirror. She was emotionally fragile but also stable in a way. She had control over everything and like I’ve explained, it all went out of her control, and in the favour of her brother. So what to get from this edit is, Azulon had an effect on her, not the same effect I described way earlier, but still one. Ozai and Irohs dynamic, and their father(Azulon) influenced them similarly to how Zuko and Azula were influenced by Ursas treatment. Edit: I know nobody cares and will see this but I’m nearly 15, I have a little less than 2 months to go! ----------------------- Anyways if you read this much feel free to give your two cent in the comments, maybe like if you want. Azula is by far my favorite character in Avatar. This song is so very much her; slow, premeditated, merciless, classy. You did *SUCH* a marvelous work, I can't help but thank you! And the artist that drew Azula as well! Both are absolutely amazing!

Azula is probably one of my favorite characters of the show. So many people don't give her the recognition that she deserves. She was literally able to conquer Ba Sing Se at the age of 14 with just her wits and determination while Iroh who was considered one of the best generals of the Fire Nation couldn't even take it with a whole entire army backing him up. She was even the one who made the plan to destroy the Earth Kingdom like Sozin did to the Air Temples because she knew it would be easier to control and conquer them. (This is mentioned in the finale when Azula questions her father Ozai on why he is leaving her behind even though she came up with the plan on how to conquer the other kingdoms).

All of your songs make me want to write fanfiction of the characters they're about.

Not only because she called him those two things back in the main series, but it also says how, while he gave up capturing Ba Sing Se, she did it singlehandedly.

I wish Azula had a redemption arc. Younger siblings learn their behaviour from the older siblings. She saw where trust and mediocre fire bending landed Zuko so she quickly tried to be the very best she could be in order to learn her father's love. When Mai and Ty Lee betray her it's a slap in the face for her as she's been taught that fear was far more reliable than trust which now clearly isn't the case as she's being betrayed while just moments earlier Zuko is saving Sokka from falling. She's calling into question everything shes been taught and it's the being of her mental breakdown. When she's beaten by Katara in the finale not only is she beaten by some water Tribe peasant but she's also seeing how Zuko is being helped and saved by someone who genuinely trusts and respects him. It would be long and complicated but if it was done correctly I think it would have the potential to be better than Zuko's. If you can't tell she's my favourite characters

Why can I imagine Azula singing the first half of the song in a more prideful tone because she's proud of being all those horrible things and then eventually, while the song is going into the second half, it's like she's trying to convince herself that she still is powerful and born to rule while she keeps spiraling down into insanity and around 3:25 is when she would be fighting against Zuko in their Agni Kai. The tone for the song kinda gives me a sad feel to it because even though she was a sociopath, she was still a kid who was brought up in an abusive and toxic environment and thought her father loved her and her mother hated her when in reality, her mother did love her. Eventually, her own friends betrayed her because of her use of fear to control them. And then she realizes that her brother who was hated by her father and deemed a traitor stood in front of her with a group of friends beside him while she had no one. Damn, I love Azula.

This song represents Azula’s personality and how she was during the whole show. Her narcissistic behavior and the way she cares herself, is all shown in this one video.
