Such a comprehensive episode. Quite enjoyable. Thanks Brent It’s a tragedy that Billy Wagner and Chef aren’t in the hall….. yet.

Thanks Chris, much appreciated! I have a feeling Wagner will be in soon. I'm not as optimistic about Sheff, but I think he has a good chance one day through a committee

So we can blame the owner selling to a Chicago group for losing the Braves yuck. Great history and episode Brutus. And happy to see you hit 500 subs!

Me too, it's a great call and clip. I thought about taking it out to make the show shorter...but it just gives me chills when I watch it so I just left it in

We were visiting my Grandparents when we watched Henry Aaron hit #715. Grandparents still had an old black and white counsel TV at that time.

Very nice but, as an aficionado of the Milwaukee Braves, I point out the Warren Spahn won the Cy Young Award in 1957 (when there was only one CYA to cover both leagues) and that Hank Aaron was the N.L.'s MVP in 1957. Thank You.
@brutusonbaseball
@brutusonbaseball Год назад
Yeah, totally messed that up. I think when I looked it up I must have just looked up that Atlanta Braves winners instead of the entire Braves history. Will try to figure out how to fix that!

Another fine job, worth the wait, but I have one correction: Hank Aaron was National League MVP in 1957. You kind of glossed over the 1890s, so I'll fill in. Baseball's main rivalry that decade was between the Boston Beaneaters and the Baltimore Orioles (no relation to the current team). It was basically a morality play, as the Orioles were considered to be the dirtiest team in baseball, while the Beaneaters, by comparison were the good guys. Kid Nichols was probably the best pitcher in baseball during this time (even better than Cy Young), and Hugh Duffy had a year in which he hit .440, a record which will never be broken. Frank Selee managed this team, he would later put together the TInker to Evers to Chance Cubs, but died before they hit their peak, probably the greatest manager most modern fans have never heard of. Anyway, I hope that when you get around to doing the Baltimore Orioles, you'll mention Ned Hanlon's 1890s teams with John McGraw, Hughie Jennings, Wee Willie Keeler and the rest, even though they aren't part of the current team's history, just because they are such a big part of the history of the game. As for the rivalry, the Beaneaters won 5 pennants, 1891-93 and 97-98, the string being interrupted by the Orioles three-peat of 1894-96. For what it's worth, they did meet once in the Temple Cup, which was a postseason series between the first and second place teams of the season, the closest thing that era had to a World Series, in 1897, the second place Orioles beat the first-place Beaneaters 4 games to 1, the last Temple Cup series ever played, due mainly to lack of interest.

Wow...I do not know how I missed that! Thanks once again for catching a great detail for me to correct! And thanks for adding in some info about the 1890s, that was a great period for the Beaneaters before the Americans came in and took away many of their good players. There's just so much information about a team like the Braves, and I really wanted to keep it to under 30 mins (for my sanity as well as the viewers). I appreciate viewers filling in the gaps of what I've left out!

Very interesting thank you. I met Hank Aaron when I was a young Little Leaguer. I had just made the Allstar team & he came out to our training. I was the first girl ever in play in my country so he came over to give me some tips & signed my glove. Best baseball experience ever. I’ve loved baseball ever since. Thank you

Changing the redskins name has destroyed the franchise, the braves know better despite what one St Louis pitcher thinks
@brutusonbaseball
@brutusonbaseball Год назад
I'm gonna have to pretty strongly disagree with you here. Changing a team name should never "destroy" a franchise if it's handled well. Washington's problem is incredibly poor ownership and management, both on and off the field. The handling of the team name change was downright ugly, not having a plan in place at all and dropping the nickname all together for a while and being referred to as the "Washington Football Team". Just dumb. A good example that it can be done right is the Cleveland Indians changing to the Guardians. You don't hear much in the way of griping anymore, the fans were never alienated and they chose a team name quickly that the city can get behind. That's done nothing to "destroy" the franchise. I'm sure the Braves could do the exact same thing if they chose to, and it could be handled well and proactively. It's just up to them if they want to or not, but they most likely will change eventually down the road and there is a model in place that shows it can be done well.
@williamcunningham4946
@williamcunningham4946 Год назад
@@brutusonbaseball no the Indians did NOT, they literally changed it in the middle of the night with no warnings, the last poll shows half their fans refused to accept it, I'm married to an American Indian, this isn't an issue for Indian tribes across the nation, this is a made up media driven issue
