In this video I will be talking about the history of the 4-4-2 Atlantic type of steam locomotives. One of the most elegant types of steam locomotives ever built.

I have only good things to say about 4:4:2's. All the orphans loved the interior very soundproof so I couldn't even hear their screams although I wish the exterior had a more streamlined look but it got the job done, 🎉 orphans are now safe in my large 4 acre lot with fences and mandatory striped uniforms, most of orphans behave (bad ones get gassed lol) nonetheless very informative video, im hard❤

Once again, the forgotten ERIE RAILROAD has been left out of the conversation. I modeled, in 1.5 scale, a 'live steam' ERIE Atlantic. E1 and E2 were camlebacks. The 1903 E3, was the first 'rear cab' Atlantic on the Erie RR. Quite a few pics of my version of an Erie Atlantic, appear on 'facebook'. And a few videos here on 'youtube' also. BTW, the Erie RR had 57 Atlantic type locomotives. All out of service by the late 30s. Pushed out by the almost as old K1 Pacifics. Thank you for this video. sincerely, Bruce Raykiewicz(ErieAtlantic)

The original 7002 got scrapped many years ago, and 8063 got renumbered/Rebuilt i believe as 7002

When I think of Atlantics, I mainly think of America’s entrance to high-speed steam locomotives, which perfectly fits towards what they did. You should do this kind of format with other wheel arrangements!

Hinkley is also known as the Boston Locomotive Works.

Excellent bit of history! I'd have to say the CNW variant is also my favorite, but my American Flyer Atlantics are in my opinion on the ugly side (the AF Atlantics are based on the Reading design).

For aome unknown, I just love Atlantics. Back in the summer of 1963, I was in Northumberland, Pennsylvania where the Pennsy had saved a number of steam locomotives, the 460 E-6 among them. Naturally I climbed up in the cab. Railroad security was essentially zero back then. The Yardmaster only told me, a college kid, just be careful. I'm an old guy now, 83, but I remember it well.

As someone from the Windsor area and a frequent Visitor to the Henry Ford Museum, it'd be so cool to see DT&I#45 back in operation

Considering over in the UK, the C1s could keep up with A1 Pacific schedules, I wonder what you could do with an Atlantic, a whole lot of modern steam improvements, battery electric trailing booster, roller bearings, and carbon fiber coaches. Maybe 8-12 coaches at 110?

Did you know that the N&W had Atlantics built in 1903
