Did you hear the news? Atlas has purchased the majority of the MTH Premier Line Tooling! For complete details, check out the video hosted by our own Jarrett Haedrich.
Thank you guys so much for doing this. Truly a sign of great respect for the hobby and I know you won’t regret taking this on. In addition, the DCS software and PS3 electronics will really make the difference in your high end products. Thank you for keeping this hobby going!
It won't happen. Economics. The reason things are made in China is because everyone wants to pay as little as they can, for everything. You cant make trains cheap enough in the USA, because American workers are too expensive. No one would buy the US-made trains when the Chinese made trains are half the price.
Glad many MTH products will be continued. Wish the ToFC and Husky Stacks were on the list. Atlas O trailers and containers probably not compatible with MTH, so those of us with extensive MTH intermodal yards still hanging...
I loved MTH I wonder why Mr. Wolf (sp)? didn't set up a board of directors and let them run the company? I hope these new guys will help us with repair on the older MTH trains. I also hope they get some of the steam engines. Good luck to us all.
all MTH PS2 a nd PS3 trains are dual 3 rail or 2 rail DCS or DCC. and for 2 rail you can get Fixed pilots and Scaled wheels. That was one of MTH's huge selling points about their engines and I'm sure atlas will carry that option.
Hint about the snow plow for customizers, put a sharkmouth in the curved part, and on the cupola, with a sharpie fine line, write Jaws (and roman numeral 2) beneath the horn. It will make a reasonable copy of L.I.R.R.'s snow plow, back in the mid to late 80's.
@@nicholasbulgarino567 It would take a fair bit actually, which is why I had hoped the P42 would go to Lionel. That way the customer base would be more forgiving of inaccuracies.
@@AbelG8781 Not trying to nitpick, but Amtrak calls Phase IVb a different name. They’re starting to require license holders to adopt the name as well. It’s called Phase VI. Thought you should know for when Atlas releases Amfleets. I certainly hope these get made in 2 rail, but I also hope the 3 railers don’t get left behind. I don’t know where else I’d get my 3 rail P42s haha. As far as 2 rail Amfleets, you might still be able to get in on a standby reservation for Amfleets and Viewliners at Golden Gate Depot.
@@amtrakinoscale9811 sorry, former HO guy, we used to call it IVb but you know what I mean lol although I'm 2 rail, I agree that 3 railers shouldn't get left behind. One can only dream but it would be nice to see quality detailed P42s and passenger cars by Atlas.
This is some good news to say the least and some of us may remember others that have been lost over the years such as: *_AHM, Mantua, Model Power, Tyco,_* and I am sure there are a few more that I forgot to mention.
Get rid of that weird MTH bolster and redo all the models with Atlas style drop in truck bolsters for 2 rail conversion.....better yet release these in 2 rail. Since Atlas does finely detailed models, hopefully the MTH models will get tuned up for better detailing on the higher end like Atlas models.
Congrats Atlas. Glad to see this news. I hope you keep up MTH's tradition of producing more unique and Canadian road names. Good luck in your new venture! Cheers from G's Oscale Trains
O Scale 2 rail in CNW Dash-9 I’m thinking that it’s going to be a big seller. Just look on eBay there’s several road names you can find all day long like you Canadian national and Union Pacific. Try finding Chicago Northwestern. CNW. O Scale 2 rail. Is the only way to fly
Does anyone know if Atlas is going to be putting DCS in there own engines or just the ones they got from MTH. Would be nice if you could choose DCS in all of their engines including the 2 rail engines they make in O gauge.
Looks like Atlas is picking the products that they feel fill out their offerings and will sell well. It's sad that a buyer could not be found for the whole business. The model train industry goes through cycles and since middle 2000 has been contracting with the consolidation of several manufacturers. I would guess a buyer looked at the near future of the industry and decided it was not a good time to buy. I am a subscriber to 'Classic Toy Trains' and the magazine has shrunk from over 100 pages per issue to around 60. Menard's is the only newcomer, and they are very selective.
The PS-2-CD 4427 High-Sided Hopper needs to be produced in the SL-SF FRISCO scheme, D&RGW Rio Grande 1967 & 1968 schemes, and all of the ATSF Santa Fe paint schemes from the original to all of the various repaint schemes.
So great to see MTH live on with a tremendous manufacturer. One thing that appears absent in the range is the Bombardier passenger cars, as well as the European line of rail cars. Is it possible to comment on this exclusion? Thanks!
Was always an MTH fan... and Supported Atlas when I could... Glad Lionel stayed out of it... Hopefully Atlas can now go Head to Head with Lionel. It was Lionel that should have been in MTH's shoes right now... Not MTH.
PS3... that all fine and dandy... but the market is saturated with PS2 electronics. Millions of those trains are still out and running... is Atlas going to service those?
@@AbelG8781 Switching to DCC is out of the question for 3-railers.. DCC won't operate in tandem with either of the two main command systems in that corner of the hobby.
Now the Loco's and gauge that were way over priced in the first place is now totally beyond the normal mans wallet, The lucky fools that do have this high of disposable income can now look forward to $1k an engine instead of just $700 with MTH, Then ya wonder why the hobby has been dying for decades. Didn't you guys figure out why Mike is really bailing out? The well ran dry!! You now have to be a millionaire++ and own a giant big house with a 30 x 50 basement to be a model railroader in O scale. And the crap is still made in China for $30 bucks.. Just another DOA deal for the hobby. Atlas should stick to what they do best, HO and N... And even that is way way too darn expensive to get younger people into the hobby!. Even a 14 yr old kid would have to have 2 full time jobs to even think about getting into trains now!. Yeah right Mr. COO, I want to run right out to the hobby shop and blow $80+ on just one lousy freight car!.. Good God man....
Trains as a hobby always seemed to be for those lucky enough to have a family member buy those add on pieces we wanted/ needed. I can recall that after getting my set in 1954, it was either a birthday or Christmas present that any additional items came onto the roster. For a $7.98 Lionel gondola, I used to scour the curbs and alleys for returnable glass bottles at $0.02 each to save enough for my own purchases. And had to wait until the holiday season for our hardware store to bring out their train inventory. I guess that’s why while it’s fun to see the things that the latest Vision or PS3 items can do, I still look at secondary markets to buy what I want / need, and have a lot of fun running the early PS1 engines. The fun is still out there, we just have to figure out what works for each of us.
