*I usually don't like heavy "gauge based" systems BUT the Momentum mechanic works surprisingly well in this. Great implementation by the team!* -BoomstickAlex
This is the best explanation of any game ever. My lizard brain was able to fully understand the complexities of the illustrations. Pls do more like this!
Love you guys and the surge is still one of my favourite souls likes to this day, please let there be more combat variety on top of the active and passive skills games like this need extensive weapon combo's and synergies since you are mostly fighting, I'm hoping for at least 5-6 weapon types by the end of the game
Appreciate the breakdown. I watched the IGN video about this game but they didn't explain combat nearly as well as you did! I get Kingdoms of Amalur vibes with the combat in this game which I find very exciting. I'll keep my eyes open for this one!!
Really cool breakdown of main mechanics, the video definitely lived up to it's title ;) It gives the idea of how the game will actually play, who is it for and what to expect with a very good point made at the end, which was also your only personal input - a huge thumbs up for that. It seems that after making their own unique and honestly very good spin on soulslike they went to make their unique and good spin on new God of War. Can't wait to play it, looks honestly dope xD
This is my type of game and I'll probably buy it day 1 if the final reviews are good enough (I never pre-order). Love that we get to play co-op, and that we can target body parts. I see the lack of enemy variety being an issue, tho. I'm also hoping for lots of weapon types and armor sets, so that we have a reason to explore. Overall, I'm sold. Let's just hope that there are no microtransactions and that the game is actually playable at launch.
I haven't watched any of your videos before but this was very well put together and I appreciate the honest opinion and gameplay! These are the types of reviews that gamers need
Don't downplay yourself - I think that all kinds of people want to hire you. You ARE a graphics designer :). Very good, humorous, critical, detailed video. "Some sections will be squishier than others" - you are a poet as well. One of the best strategy videos I have seen.
So Momentum is basically the Concentration Mechanic from DMC4&5 but instead of doing technical skills, it's all about keeping the flow. I like that. Makes you go a lot more aggressive.
I usually hate souls game, but surge 2 was really unique. I'm glad they're making my favorite type of game (co-op action rpg) now and I can't wait to play it. I for one would love to see more big and complex, monster hunter-style bosses, they take a good amount of practice to take down. Thanks for the video, and the visual representation lol.
Love how Deck 13 tries new things, granted some might not work as well as others. Compared to some other developers who just regurgitate the same products over and over. I loved my time with The Surge 1-2.
Thnx a lot for the jnfo on this game. I’m gonna sub to your channel because of that. I’m looking forward to this game. I love the fact it has coop. Shame you didn’t get to play or experience it but o well. Thanks a lot man.
Awesome stuff! I'm gonna ask my questions, even if it just to help boost that RU-vid algorithm and get your videos on more people's recommend: Does the exploration feel surprising? Like in the direction of BotW or Elden Ring, or is it just icons on the map where you know exactly what you're gonna get? I don't mean it has to be huge, but that it isn't formulaic and icon based. When the characters talk, does the dialogue serve the game and make you curious to know more? Or did you immediately want to turn off the voice acting. Is the co op complete free roam / no tether to each other? And does it have other limitations (like the non host doesn't make progress or can't pick up loot or whatever)?
About 50% of the exploration was "go to the icon on the map" and the other half was unknown. Usually a hidden chest or surprise encounter. Since it was a preview, I honestly wasn't listening to much of the plot points. Seems pretty standard "You're special, go kill stuff". Not sure on how co op works just yet.
Hey man I have to say I was interested in this game and was looking at different people who explained this game and you have to be probably the best one that not only doesn't have any sort of BS when he explains it but also you don't have any sort of crazy ADHD like gimmick where you have to explain it as though you're about to die in 5 seconds you clearly in concisely explain what each mechanic does how things are done in combat how the momentum gauge works you made clear comparisons to the games that their company had made in the past which I have personally played both surges and love them so you just clearly in concisely explain the game and it's nice and refreshing to see that instead of somebody doing some sort of big dumb gimmick and I really did like your drawings. I might have to start looking at you when it comes to game previews from now on. You also didn't waste any time and just getting into the nitty gritty of things. You just started going right into the gameplay.
I agree in a game like this, diversity of enemies is king. I mean, seems like 80% of the gameplay in the game is fighting. Never played a surge game but I'm guessing you can look back at those game to have a good idea at how many types of enemy there will be
Been waiting for a game like Untold Legends Dark Kingdom..... one of my fav ps3 games from back in the day. I'd play coop story mode with others that had different builds
Thanks for the video I am really debating on buying this game because it looks like a cross between Dark Siders and Forspoken so the fun factor looks pretty hi.
The game looks amazing but, I'm really worried about those system requirements... We are at two months away from release, but we have no idea if we can even run the game properly.
The speed through which travel through interesting landscapes happens makes me wonder, is there too little to interact with, lack of sense of awe, and kill grind? Or is there a story and lore and attention for detail rewarded too?
Yes and no. Yes because Atlas will live up to the expectations ( gameplay wise ). No because Atlas Fallen got more a "Darksiders" vibe ( Forspoken was really "in his own world" ).
@@mytop3467 He's the opposite of concise, though. His scripts are overwritten and needlessly flowery. A good writer keeps it short, sweet and informative.
Really like them, too. Cool ideas and constantly improving with each game. Also love their skills on the technical side. Remember playing The Surge Day 1 with 60fps on my Playstation 4 Pro back then. They were one of the first and best supporters for PS4 Pro features.
looks much better than the surge games, animations and combat were just a bit clunky imo. love the idea of the momentum mechanics and hope it pans out well
As always, this is THE youtube channel if you want go deep into a game's mechanics, thanks for the detailed explanations on the systems. As an open world action RPG game, how this one compares to recent fiascos like Forspoken in terms of fun factor?
Thank you for the video as always Alex (your art is amazing BTW 😂) As for what I'd want to see, then I find myself echoing your initial feedback of more polish and more enemy types. And I suppose the other thing I'd really want to see is a robust character creator, and a lot of cosmetic options for my in game avatar. Because... why not?
I am so hyped for this game. Rarely does a developer earn a day one purchase from me but I loved the surge and surge 2 so much that this is gonna be day one.
Only heard about this game yesterday and even it was only because it was an advert on my Xbox dash board. Glad to see Deck 13 back at it and stepping up their game as I loved the Surge games. I look forward to getting this game when its on sale, hopeful when my catalog has cleared up a bit.
this looks much better than forsaken so wtf were square enix doing putting out a game that looked so bad, this game is very similar but they have maneaged to create much better textures and sceanery. i will probably check it out when its done.
I LOVE the surge 2 but I don’t know about this one, I mean I love building up a combo meter in a hack n slash like the DMC series but if it’s tied to how fast/ how strong your attacks are then it seems like a slog to get through unless there’s going to be upgrades to how much momentum you accumulate per hit, I’ll wait for a sale.
If there's time to improve, I would like the team from deck13 to add cool power up gadgets like arm or weapons that can be call upon, kind of Ironman vs hulk scene
Reminds me of Final Fantasy 16, but more "open worldy" - combat is at about half the pace though :) It does look like an intriguing game though, the "momentum" bar is an interesting mechanic.
Or just a counter mechanic from like a 100 different games ;P Which is great, counters are usually more difficult and more satisfying way to combat and so far I love what I saw here.
I don't know how to explain this feeling but it really feels like it's gonna be kinda mid or repatative. I don't know why and I'm hoping it will be great but just a feeling.
