DM is decent, cyanide is a bit iffy, Judas kiss drags on a bit in the middle, BBaS intro is a waste of time, same as all nightmare long, seriously if you cut the fat and give it a decent mix it's a killer album

the big problem with their modern sound, isnt the songs themselves, its the mixing being way over produced.

Is that insinuating that new Metallica isn’t nearly as good? Because if so, I’d agree with that. Listening to The Sick, The Dying and The Dead by Megadeth blows 72 seasons out of the water.

@@stoplooking2165 I would say it's under-producing their music is the problem. The old albums had more attention to tones, ambience, intros, fade ins/outs, architected solos, reverbs/delays, unique drum/amp tones, etc. Now each album seems more or less sounding the same, guitars and vocals rarely have any ambience or effects, not many intros/outros, solos are more improvised and not intricate or well thought out, etc.

Some of these are really meant to be old school. I really couldn't stand today's Metallica because of today's James (sorry) so this truly elevates the current Metallica sensation. I want whole albums remastered old-school 😄

I also find it hilarious that people cling to that age old “everything after justice was garbage” mantra that holds no water at all. It just means those fans don’t have an open mind, and aren’t really a fan of the band. You are simply a fan of a few albums they put out. They have 11 studio albums(at least I think it’s 11 not including garage Inc and S&M). If you only like the first four then you don’t like the band overall. When the majority of music a band puts out is not something you like, it’s not them. Oh no, they got older and changed some of the music they made and tried new things. Some worked, some didn’t. It’s almost like they were just trying to keep moving forward instead of recreating the same thing over and over. Which is ironic, because if they did that the same people would still be complaining that it all sounds the same. Fans won’t ever be happy with anything.

As opposed to the universally controversial album that justice was, production wise? They literally stripped out the bass on every song, which by definition is not a well produced song. I love that album, it’s fantastic and represents where they were at that time. I think that’s what is great about all their albums. They are all different in some ways. Outside of St. Anger and Death Magnetic, it’s the worst album from a production standpoint. You could argue Kill Em All was worse since it was their first album, but that one has a certain charm to it I think. Justice was a great album but there is no need to for any other album to do what it did.

@@georgen5882 I never said Justice was a triumph of production. In fact, it's terrible in a lot of ways. The drums are way too snappy, the guitar tone is compressed to within an inch of its life and, like you said, no bass. But, it didn't muddy the guitar tone with super pressed mids and over powering low end like the new MetallicA material. My frustration with new material is that it neuters the grit of the band. They make it sound like dad rock with their by-the-book production.
