Quick tip: whenever visiting mountains, always carry cash because mountains are places were ATM don’t work due to difficult situations

You went into bank in second time... you could have talk to manager for international fund transfer and got INR...banks are fully authorized to do so...

Being A local of Mount Abu , use of Plastic currency in Rajasthan has been on a huge decline since arrival of digital money, not a big issue if you have ample cash nevertheless enjoy the marwad region , make sure to visit Khimsar and Osain Beside Jodhpur and little away from Mount Abu ❤️🇮🇳

I haven't used a cash or card in about a a couple of years. hell i don't have cash even in my wallet. get a UPI account and pay digitally, i think there is a way for foreigners to also get it. will make your life much easier in India, Average Indian income is about $2,140 Average American income is $105,555 So thats why they charge foreigners a higher amount. The boat ride is about 5-6 Dollors Wonder why when you earn so much more should paying that be such a problem? Now imagine indians going to America for a vacation and spending money, thats tough lol. anyways have a great journey.

I don't get why the guy was so frustrated. You go somewhere, you research local customs. Payment is frequently an issue. As a European used to paying with contactless card/NFC for over a decade, we used to have to take out physical cash to visit the US before they caught up 🤷🏻

Since Covid, India went on cashless/digital payment mode. UPI. Direct from your bank account to vendor account, via mobile phone. Haven't been to an atm since ages. Load UPI in your phone, when you arrive at the air port.

As an Indian who recently moved to US, I can understand your predicament. Any Indian who went abroad and didn’t keep their Indian numbers active would lose access to UPI and thus be in the same situation as you are whenever they visited India. I prevented this situation only by keeping my Indian number active. Major international airports I believe are giving options to foreigners to get a PayTM wallet where they can load money using their foreign currency/card etc. I think visitors should seriously consider using this option. India is and will not be having a card based payments system anytime soon. Mobile payments and UPI have basically made things easier of millions in a country where financial literacy is not great and people are not eligible for credit cards. So, it’s either cash or UPI.

ATM's are 90's tech, cards are old sschool. I am not even sure if a lot of retailers would accept cash in the next 5 years.Rupees would be like points, you earn in points and spend in points digitally. :) I am glad you are exploring India like an Indian.

Your approach of taking help was not right basically what you could have done is that you used your card details to add money in their paytm or something it might have caused you a transaction fee but it’s fine judging by the situation it’s a small fee and then you asked that guy to use his debit card to get money from atm and pay you cash
