Chris Farlow was such a great vocalist. I saw him in 06 with a brillant little silver haired guitarist. I know Nick Graham, lovely guy.

12:40 the journalist said that Chris could have a role for a passable Dracula and Vincent could have a role for an humoristic chicken and also said he hoped it would give ideas to producers

The better singer for Atomic Rooster's sound was Pete French. Check their original of "Breakthrough" on the album "In Hearing of ... Atomic Rooster (1971)

Twenty some odd years ago I was on vacation in Canada. There was a jazz/blues festival and the night I attended, Chris Farlowe performed. They brought out a stool and on it was a glass of wine and a sandwich!

What is the keyboard in the middle of Vincent's stack between his Hammond and the Wurlitzer 200A on top? Thinking it's a Hohner, but which model?
@Esotereclectic
@Esotereclectic 2 месяца назад
It might have been a Hohner "Pianet T", which was more of a "flatter"-style piano. Robert Fripp and David Cross used them with King Crimson.

Lots of British bands were taking the R&B/soul/funk route around that time, or during the next few years. Deep Purple come to mind, after Ritchie left the band.
@Esotereclectic
@Esotereclectic Год назад
Pete French was their best vocalist, but apparently Vincent hardly paid the rest of the band hardly anything, so the offer to join Cactus must have seemed like a logical step forward, and that's why he left the band when he did.

@@Esotereclectic Deep Purple started playing RnB and funk after the departure of Gillan and Glover in 1973. Both Coverdale and Hughes had a lot more bluesy and soul orientated vocals. Burn and especially Stormbringer (I like both albums by the way) are the beginnings of funk and RnB in Deep Purple. It's why Ritchie left. As for Vincent Crane, he was a lot better in Crazy World in my opinion. His solos were very tasteful and varied then. He practically improvises through many of the album's tracks, not repeating himself at all. What happened to him in Atomic Rooster, I don't know. He began using the same licks all the time to the point that find it embarrassing at times. He left mistakes on their early albums so I'm guessing his mental health must have deteriorated by that time.

I think Farlowe was great. He was anti-typical posey rock star of the time, all bare chests, fringes, glitter and sparkles, macho, he had a bit of a "punk attitude", eating sandwiches on stage and all that, taking the piss, and sitting down while he did it. Peeing while sitting down, what?!?!
