Hi, the 1200W are for a TCase of 90 degree, not for a Theat sink of 90 degree. For this experiment I measured the heat sink (cold plate) temperature, the case would be then at Tcase = T heat sink + RTCS*power (thermal resistance case sink = 0,15). so with 1200W, with a heat sink of 90 degree, the mosfet case would be 1200*0,15 = 180 degree higher.I destroyed 2 of them with 700W in fact, and heat sink stil below 60 deg.
@@MakerFabio I tried 590W with only one MOSFET. I don't have a big enough cooler. All other tested MOSFETs withstand/burn bellow 400W in linear mode. I remain convinced that if you manage to keep the MOSFET housing below 70C you can dissipate easy 1200W with only genuine FDL100N50F. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-I5rtE2UKbwc.html
@@cryscrystiii7023 with very good thermal paste and strong coupling to the heat sink you reduce che RT case sink, below the typical declared so you can increase It will never be 0 so power will be lower than 1200W, but higher than ehat i caluclated
Thanks a lot for the guide. When I load more than 20A, there is a fast beeping sound and I have to reduce the load to 20A to silent that sound. Do you know how to fix that?
My DL24 has a overcurrent setting where I can select to ignore power limits. It is the 4 input model from 2021. Might be worth testing that out since it does not require you to mess with the voltage settings and amperage settings in order to achieve your upgrade. You might still have to change the shunt and diode though.
Many thanks for the suggestion Now that i already have modified this one i don t want to put new effort to disassemble this one and buy the other model, i have to live with this But good to know for the other readers
That was a very handy excel calculating the max power dissipation em on the Mosfet, keeping a TJ below the abs rating, starting from the heat sink temperature . But i just realized i deleted it, toghether with the video partial files…
I thought my dual fan Alienware recycle was cool. I'm doing this mod myself as well and using liquid metal. those fets are expensive. but along with 4 of them and the resistors atleast I'll get free shipping from digikey. great video
Thanks It would be better using the latest atorch load revision, where you can adjust the max power limit. Anyway, including work fan and mosfet would be too expensive for a unbranded load
