Wow, very high quality tennis between 2 great players. Great advice from Karue at the end for Niels. As always, Winston is bringing the fire with these videos!
Great matchup. Been waiting for this one! Even against a top recruit like Neils you can see how good Karue’s ball striking and weight transfer is. A class above. Niels shows a ton of promise and given his comments about Karue’s game, it is clear he knows what he needs to do to get better. If he gets fitter and stronger like Karue suggested, he will be a beast.
great playing from Niels - he had 3 game points at 4:4 - he served pretty well with 8 "free points" on his serve - but only had 45% 1st serve and 2 double faults. Karue served bigger with 11 free points including 6 aces and 79% of 1st serves in. His forehand seemed a bit off with 11 errors but won 6 out of 7 points at the net. His backhand at 7:15 was sweet
I think the short backhand punch such as one at 17:16 is Karue's signature shot. Maybe a bit exaggeration, but it looks even better than the original Agassi's.
Interesting what Karue said, after listening to Craig O'Shannessy, who seems to believe the first balls (4 balls) and who plays those with more accuracy and conviction is ultimately the key to who wins at the pro level all the way down to the recreational level.
I think it's mostly about having better strokes and movement, if you have those the numbers of good shots you can make will follow. Karue's first serve and especially his slice is way better and won him the match, plus his backhand is slightly more solid although both guys are awesome players
Great match. Loved to see Neils put up a great match after the previous one against the Vanderbilt player. Karue is a monster... not only as a player, but particularly as an analyzer of the game of tennis. Everytime the dude talks he´s really giving a lesson on tennis. I appreciate the content Winston. Karue, I hope you get better with your groin issue, and get a better handle on that new/old racquet. Will be checking out your channel for updates. Neils, hope to se you often on the channel !!! Let´s get you to play Govind Nanda
biggest difference i always see is the depth of the groundstrokes that karue is hitting. just insane how crazy long they fly deep into the baseline, even on youtube they come like a rocket that won`t stop flying. amazing.
IMHO K understandably had a little less intensity than usual no thanks to his injury and possibly the racquet change, which makes a huge difference on one's tennis output. Neils is just a beast, and I'm sure he's going to refine his game way more in the coming years as he develops both physically and mentally. Thank you Winston as always for the amazing content. M
Such crazy hitting. Every ball sounds like a slap even though they have tons of spin. Love the UCLA v. USC rivalry going on. Got anyone from Cal willing to come down so I can root for them though? Go Bears!
I’m surprised Karue needs to use 60 lbs tension. His strokes are so compact that I wouldn’t think lower tension would lose control. Is high tension important for taking balls early and changing directions?
Anyone else notice that Winston keeps putting his last name in the score box for no reason. I’m just saying he might be doing something subliminal there.
Karue was toying with Niels. At 4-4 he said "enough!" Niels has some funky strokes. He seems to be still growing into his body. A little clumsy on the footwork. His service form needs to be more compact-less things to go wrong. His forehand is wicked.
Tip for all three: Winston. In the beginning interview when you ask what style they play, ask to be more specific, do they get off the baseline? Do they move in? Have they ever tried to s/v? How are they at half court volleys ? Because frankly they didn’t do any of that. And any player that says they are all court, let’s see them do just that. These two players did not get off the baseline, maybe I missed one or two. It I didn’t see any. If they are going to play the baseline then they won’t move up much as most players don’t know how to do the above mentioned. So if they want to move forward they are going to have to get off the baseline. Otherwise everyone is a mirror of the other. The horrid rackets and strings is what has turned tennis into a baseline trade the ball to see who misses first. Try developing a strategy off the baseline. It’s the greatest advice anyone could give them. Tennis should never be about standing on the baseline and boom the serve. 75% of the actual game is missing. If they want to outclass opponents they need to take their opponents out of their comfort zone. Winston should have videos exclusively for no baseline sets. Every player has to get off the baseline on every point. And then analyze the sets. Who cares who wins. They need to do something else. And no returning of serve behind the baseline. Inside the baseline only. Now is the time to do something different. And watch how they will outwit their opponent. The advice for the two players is to read this comment. 🙂
@@WinstonDu please consider having a ‘no baseline set’. Everyone has to move in on every point. And include standing inside and moving in on return of serve especially the second serve.
Niel has said a few times he plays with a Wilson V8, I'm assuming this is not a mistake does this mean he got a paint job done/ it was painted for him by Wilson ?
I think an actual tangible diffrence maker potentially in white shirt would be to work on getting physically stronger body and heart capacity. So instead of having to pushing yourself to peak you level, you’re actually having to back off your strenuousnicity so that you you don’t just disrespectfully blow ur opponent off the court like that retired 13utr who made that app. Sure you can say it’s just a mentality thing that comes with age/maturity, but really what it comes down to is Vo2 capacity, hitting penetration shots without straining in ur chest, and having a support system that holds you up when ir doing the right thing, unlike most family systems which tend do the opposite. The latter of which may take a miracle to achieve. Good luck. Also, perhaps a slightly bigger swing weight and more wrist/forearm/shoulder strength. And leg and knee strength. How high do you really wanna go though? You want a freakin statue at usc when you graduate? lol come on. Get real.
@@smithjoe321 I understand what he felt but, Karue was looking like 70% I dont think he understands the level gap between him and Karue, according to his tournament matches it is not even close.
@@MostLikedComment123 Concur. I’m probably too quick to judge, but Niels comes off like an arrogant rich kid. Karue obviously wasn’t trying his hardest. Still fun to watch!
@@smithjoe321 well I wouldn't be to shocked, if ur going through juniors and academy training thats a shit ton of money. I have met a couple kids like that from juniors who are absolute snobs, but I am privileged to be in a respectful conference: Conference Carolinas
@@MostLikedComment123 I see what you are saying about Niels saying "better than you by a little bit" but I don't think it's a big deal. I've seen the respect Niels has for Karue's game off camera
Please list Karue Sell by his UTR score which is 14.0, instead of just saying ATP Pro. The UTR score is more informative as to the player’s actual skill level.
Sorry to say this Niels Hoffmann didn't impress me one bit! His serve is the only thing that looks decent in his game, and he has many other things that don't look good and need work like his movement for one. What's funny is I tried to look him up on the ITF site to see his junior ranking and if he ever played any futures and strangely enough, he is not even listed on the ITF site. How can you be a top junior in the US and not even be on the ITF site is beyond me. Honestly, I don't even know how he got to play D1 tennis for USC. Anyway, best of luck to him in his career at USC.
@@yinions Lol my dude really solid points against a top 500 player? What are a few solid points vs winning sets or matches from a touring pro? Also if he was such an outstanding junior then how come doesn't he have a world ranking in juniors? This kid never played any of the junior slams and most likely never even played the Orange Bowl which is one of the most prestigious junior tournaments in the world that all the big names played, and most likely he never even played Kalamazoo or the Easter Bowl. Don't get me wrong I wish the kid the very best of luck in his career but his resume as a junior is non existent and speaks for itself.
@@bballah9969 you can’t assume he’s not good just cause he didn’t compete in these tournaments. I agree that’s it’s a bit odd he hasn’t played these tournaments but his utr rating matches up with top 150 itf players. His serve is such a weapon and there have been many “servebots” that have extreme success
It looks like Karue is tanking points to keep this match close, professional don’t miss the shots he missed in this match. Neil is a great player, but I have seen way too many Professional matches Karue has played before, and I have seen a ton of top 500 players in the world that don’t miss shots like that. Some of the line calls are sus as well! Great match but it seemed scripted!
@@WinstonDu after watching the video a few times, I think it would be tough to play in front of a camera and talk to people while playing. It was an awesome match and it was fun to watch. Thank you for all your hard work on this channel and for your dedication to bringing high level tennis, to the Tennis Community. This the first time I have ever seen Karue miss shots he normally crushes, he did say he switched Racquets so he still maybe getting used to his old racquets again. You probably have seen Kurae play a lot and why do you think he was missing shots he normally crushes! Neil has a solid game, and does serve huge! I would like to see Ivan and Kurae play a practice set! That match would be epic and a tennis ball or two could get broken! Thank you for posting this video and for all that you do for Tennis Community Winston! I am interested in your analysis of the match!
Karue looks different when he plays in actual tournaments. His tournament on clay was phenomenal and played way better than what his rank states. He can be a top 200 player and here he played like a rank 1200 player. You can tell he was cold and forehand was floating around
@BreeZieDoesiT I played Starcraft 2 at a pretty high level yes thats quite different than tennis but same phenomenon occurs where once you get to a high enough league lower ranked opponents can actually be more difficult to play against and throw you off your game... Looks exactly the same as what happened here to me Karue felt awkward vs him and couldn't find his normal rhythm
I really enjoy the blunt, well intentioned critiques of each other's (and their own) play. It's refreshing to see that without a bunch of ego - just folks trying to get better at the game.
Barely at the 14:30 mark and I have to say this level of tennis is 🔥🔥 really love the positive reinforcement from Niels! When he makes the error, he reinforces positivity and understands what he did wrong and changes the attitude to being positive, “come on come on, I can make that” goes a long way mentally
Invite nick from inutitive tennis to play karue. I’m dying to see if nick can beat him. Nick only plays his friend and never anyone that is on higher level so we don’t know what level nick is in
