An incredible match of contrasting styles. Dustin brown and Alexander Zverev put on a show for the tennis fans around the world with a lot of momentum shifts and moments of truth.
It was only the fourth Top 10 win of Brown's career, and the first since February 2017 when he beat then No. 7-ranked Marin Cilic in the Open Sud de France second round.
Dustin Brown rose to fame after beating Rafael Nadal in the 2014 Halle Open and Wimbledon 2015, and is known for his technique, speed and entertaining playing style, often entertaining the crowd with trick shots during matches.

I think Dustin has one of the best, if not the best, serve-and-volley games and his net play is off the hook. He put Alexander on the defense so often during this match due to his volleying and ball placement. Great match.

@@HououinKyouma42 i dont dislike brown. i think he has some wonderful shot making. but he was a huge hot dog on that particular play. i did not like it. had he been playing me, i would have been making his job a bit more difficult than it already was. if an athlete is smart, he never does anything that might place his opponent in a higher gear. he does have tremendous acceleration during his serve. and demonstrates a point i had made on another thread about su-wei. her poor serve has nothing to do with her small frame size, but rather her very poor form. for a man, brown has a very small frame. but he can hit his serve, because of good form, and great acceleration of his arm
@HououinKyouma42
@HououinKyouma42 4 года назад
@@jimmybrice6360 Wait... small frame? Are talking about the same Dustin Brown? He's thin, yes, but he's very nearly 2 meters tall. I wouldn't say his good form overcomes his small frame. I would instead say that his form takes advantage of his longer frame - that's a very significant difference; he may not have sheer mass, but he has a lot of leverage (note: I am still agreeing that his form is good!) On the hot-dogging note, I find it almost impossible to believe that a header after a point is over would affect Zverev in any way; I highly doubt it would motivate him, annoy him, or any other emotion. It's just Brown having fun and messing around in a 100% harmless way, it wouldn't have been meant as anything other than a bit of entertainment. I do crap like that all the time when I play! (league matches, college ball, whatever). If my opponent tells me to knock it off, I will, but I've had that happen once in 20 years (and that particular person had... pardon the expression... quite a stick up her ass). Almost everyone I've ever seen on a tennis court just doesn't care about something so mundane. Point is, I don't think things like heading a tennis ball, juggling, etc... even registers on the bad sportsmanship scale. Just my thoughts though - if it annoys you, that's fine, that's just how it is for you. If you play someone who does that just let them know. I would bet they'll apologize, say they didn't mean to offend, and cut it out! I can promise there was no ill intent behind Brown's header though, if that's what you found offensive. Sorry for the long post - I didn't mean to preach!

Nadal was simply mentally outplayed. Nadal is one of the best in getting into a game, coming back from a bad set. ahahah except that circus shots don't make Dustin Browns win tournaments...it's just exhibition. :D Zverev is 22 and he's already ATP number 10...(what does he care about a 3rd line tournament like Stuttgart???). Dustin is 34...and never managed to win a tournament worth mentioning :D not even this tournament (it was Matteo Berrettini who won Stuttgart 2019 against a far more interesting and talented player than Dustin Brown, Felix Auger-Aliassime... So put your judgment in perspective. To make Dustin "the wig" Brown "famous" for isolated single games in tournaments that he never wins...it's funny (and it is only because of his wig) :)

From all of these, so many, far more talented and consisted than Dustin Brown never became RU-vid "stars" like Brown... Just because they don't grow hair for 20 years in a row. Maybe Dustin's wig is there because without it he would feel like having a pin head. Out of RU-vid Dustin in reality was never much... and without the "rasta" look... he wouldn't even make it on RU-vid. ;) Sir. And that's the truth no matter how many "prepared" videos on Dustin are posted... Zverev is not the first top 10 player to find Dustin Brown a tough nut to track. The problem players have with Brown, is that he is so comfortable at the net and with the serve and volley. Going to the net point after point is a lost art in tennis. If you go back 20 years, players used to go to the net and serve and volley a lot more, but in modern times playing from the back of the court has been the go to move. When you do have to play against a player like Brown who is so unorthadox, you have to play a game that doesn't come natural to you because his shot selection is so unusual and unpredictable. Whatever you think of Brown as a tennis player, you will certainly get your money's worth if he is on song. It's like he plays to entertain, and he wont sacrifice his style for anything. Unfortunately this way of playing will unlikely allow him to consistently win against top players because he plays a lot of low percentage shots, but it's great to watch

@danielscott4514
@danielscott4514 2 года назад
Once you're good enough that you can serve with power and accuracy, you have a major advantage over any receiver. When you get really really good, you should be able to serve a decent percentage of balls that *no one* can return. That's why they have the term "breaking serve" for when the receiver is able to win a game: two closely matched opponents will keep winning their service games at the same rate, leaving them tied (so winning a game where you're the receiver becomes a big deal). If no-one breaks serve, then it comes down solely to who makes two more (consecutive) errors than their opponent in order to decide the match.
@danielscott4514
@danielscott4514 2 года назад
@@Sena-co1ug Agreed, there are some amazing reflexes on show at this level of tennis (and fitness). However, so much of it also comes down to being able to spot the little "tells" from the other player and predict ahead of time where the ball is going to go: there's just no time to react - you've got to be setting up for your next shot before it's even left your opponent's racquet. That too is a skill these top players have had to learn from a lot of practice. It's also why sometimes a player will struggle to beat an opponent with an unfamiliar style of play, or on an unfamiliar court surface - even when the statistics would suggest it should be easy for them.

Thumbs down to someone's video cause of something outside of their control, and then announce it like you're important? interesting

dustin is talented like most of the top 50 are but he's not a top player...he creates an illusion. other top players could succeed at these same flashy high risk shots and create highlight shots but then they wouldn't be top players any longer!

He hit ONE flashy shot in this match. The leaping one. The rest was simply brilliant tennis.

Why Dustin Brown isn't No.1 ?
@johnbills3056
@johnbills3056 4 года назад
Because he's not that talented to be number 1. Besides grass courts, he hasn't been anywhere else to prove himself.

It's Unbelievable that Brown is #551 rank and Zverev #3. Brown has also defeated Nadal twice #4
