This is fantastic! Just what everyone undergoing recurrent training, type rating and even just reviewing needs. I am abundantly jealous, gloating with envy at this brilliant presentation. I am proud to be an ATR pilot with this marvelous job. Well presented and a sterling effort. This will definitely help thousands, keep it up Magnar! Looking forward to the next one.

HI Captain Magnar .... thank you a thousand times for this wonderful introduction to the flightdeck of the ATR . I am a retired engineer and experienced flightsimmer - - and through all my years with XP11 and MSFS2020 i havent seen a technical explaning video like that .... its really OUTSTANDING. What a coincidence, that the ATR is now available in MSFS and i have to admit personally - its getting my ALLTIME FAVOURITE PLANE. I am just preparing the integration of the ATR SIMVARs into my panel-system - the ATR is very special and is in many ways - different from all other aircraft. But with the help of your explanations everything is getting clear ... there is no manual available in MSFS for the ATR - but with your VIDEOS(s) ... there is no need for an extra manual. Greetings from germany - your content is very much appreciated.

Dear Magnar, would you kindly clarify regarding the PFD-ASI? I'm doing ground school for my ATR TR right now, and some of the CBT content shows the ASI has a yellow box/barrel (like the altimeter) in the center of the speed tape with a digital readout of IAS. Other content, shows that no such box exists. Also, FCOM DSC.31.5 pg 1 & 2, show both possibilities. Is there a mode/display selection somewhere, or is this a difference in airframe msn or avionics software version (like VNAV)? Great work as always, thanks Captain!
@FlywithMagnar
@FlywithMagnar Год назад
The answer is a different software version. The first variants (STD 1 and STD 2), do not have the yellow box. It was introduced with STD 3. Some early variants have been upgraded to STD 3.

I enjoy watching your tutorials, simple and easy to understand. I've a question about the Set Auto/ Manual Speed Target knob, located left of Capt PFD. Unlike A320, ATR doesn't have Auto Throttle. After setting the speed target with the knob, how do you get the ATR to follow the speed target?
@FlywithMagnar
@FlywithMagnar Год назад
For climb, we use IAS mode. The flight director will then follow the target speed. Unless ATC tells us to use a specific speed, we use auto target speed. For descent, we use auto target speed or manual target speed set to 240 kt (or whatever we prefer of ATC wants.) The speed is controlled with the power levers. For approach, we always use auto target speed (unless we have to land with reducef flaps setting.)

Hello Captain, i'm curious, do you have any info on how huge the memory is being loaded for database in the FMS?
@FlywithMagnar
@FlywithMagnar 3 года назад
No, I don't know that. Have to ask an engineer.

The cockpit looks like the marriage between the old ATR and the Airbus flight dek design ..... which isn't suprising since Aerospatiale (Airbus) has a 50 pct stake in it.

at 14:47 Capt, can you tell me the difference between the red and green altitude? is it highest with the red and lowest terrain in the area with green? i cannot find it yet the explanation whether in the book or other reference. thanks a lot Capt
@FlywithMagnar
@FlywithMagnar 2 года назад
On the picture in the video, the highest obstacle has an elevation of 10,500 feet (the red number in the right low corner). The lowest terrain is at 1,500 feet. The density and color is a function of how close the terrain is to aircraft altitude and the angle of the flight path. The reference is FCOM.DSC.34.13.1.2.2.

@@FlywithMagnar Thanks a lot found it Captain, sure airbus and atr instruments are almost same. Didnt expect to search for it on fcom dsc. God Bless You Capt!

I notice during descent, after VNAV was activated, why the FMA sometimes display ALT* instead of VNAV PATH ?
@FlywithMagnar
@FlywithMagnar Год назад
This happens when you forget to select an altidude below you before you start your descent.

@@FlywithMagnar If a pilot realizes the mistake, how can he reinstate VNAV PATH? Would this be the correct procedure? 1: Disable VNAV 2: Set decent altitude 3: Enable VNAV again to reactivate VNAV PATH?
@FlywithMagnar
@FlywithMagnar Год назад
ALT* disables VNAV PATH mode. Therefore, the procedure is the set the cleared altitude with the ALT SEL knob and then press the VNAV pushbutton. The same rule applies for VS mode.
