@binbhrf yeah usually I pre order the pass cause I know I'm gonna easily play enough to get the value but with that hot trash I'm waiting to see how it shakes out for a week or two atleast. I mostly Olay Bo3 so it won't be as bad but we get our fair share of red prowess

@@DiscardatRandom you guys are crazy.. yea they might not run it if they dont have 4 copies yet, but with 4 copies in 60 cards, they have roughly a 40% chance to have it in their opening hand, and thats without even taking a mulligan (and they would absolutely mull down to like 5 cards most likely to get it) and with the strong possibility of a turn 2 win where the only counterplay is exactly a 1 mana removal/bounce? you can hear the circle jerk mono red players are doing over this from miles away lmao

Okay, question time -- do we think releasing a set every 3 months is sustainable long-term? I don't think it is. Do we *need* a new set right now? It feels like we've been playing Bloomburrow for 5 minutes. Sorry, back on topic -- CGB, thanks for all that you do to keep us entertained, you are awesome.

I definitely think they should have slowed down set releases by at least a month when they increased standard rotation by a year. standard is gonna feel so bloated. but more sets is more money, so they're not gonna slow down most likely

Every 3 months is totally sustainable: that's what the magic release schedule basically was for most of its life (3 standard and a core every year). The issue now is that the big supplemental sets exist and mess with the standard set releases, so Bloomburrow didn't even get 2 months of focus, and neither will Duskmourn, because they have to fit ~6 big releases in a year instead of 4 (and that's not even counting non-full sets like Fallout or AssCreed).

Reanimator is insanely slow, it'll never beat monored. You either need 4 mana or to durdle around casting mill spells for 3 turns to get Emergence, and doing nothing in turn 1 and 2 against monored = -45 life on turn 3.

I don't think paying life with Valvagoth would have triggered the curse. It specifies damage and I think paying is considered loss of life which are two different things. They do specify damage causes loss of life on other cards after all.

Ok so my favorite commander deck is Ghen, Arcanum Weaver and I cannot stress how absolutely perfectly Overlord of the Balemark fits in the 99. What does that deck want to do? Mill cards early, sacrifice enchantments to bring others back, and reanimate big enchantment threats. So, basically, Impending the Overlord for 2 mana and get some mill. Activate Ghen to recur a threat and send Overlord to the graveyard. Then a few turns down the line, you can sac something else to recur the 5/5 Overlord, get more mill and keep the body. I want that card in my deck so bad!

it's called getting the nuts. even then, literally any form of removal completely shuts it down and it takes until at least turn 5. there's a reason no one runs it even though it's been in the game for more than 6 months: it's objectively bad.

95% of the time I get it Minor point, sometimes a game was so lopsided the other person cant use it for content well either (unless its a combo and they pulled it off I guess) But yeah, a content creator probably doesnt want to show much of the new cards versus someone who did nothing for 4 turns I say this before watching, so idk what happened or when in the video

Is there legally, tactically, a way to "play" cards exiled by Valgavoth without also having to "cast" them? One example, if you somehow force opponents' to mill, discard, or sacrifice their lands into their graveyard... you'd exile them all, and then be able to "play" their lands without having to "cast" them, right? Separately, obviously this will filter out all their 0 CMC toys and making them yours very quickly. What other exploits are doable, if you want to avoid paying life for big bombs? Lastly, is there a good combo piece that makes offsetting lifegain for you based on same CMC, or mirrors or multiplies the natural lifeloss at your opponents?

To my knowledge there's no way to get around the life payment of Valgavoth directly, so you're probably best off just running lifegain stuff, like Exsanguinate or good extort cards. Aetherstorm Reservoir specifically goes pretty nuts if you can get enough stuff exiled with Valgavoth to go off.

30:30 I wonder if more people are trying it now because there is 2 additional ways to cause "lose half your life" in duskmourn making it more robust... Then again the doubler is still the chokepoint so...
