After opening an Atraxa in my Double Masters VIP Booster, I wanted to take her for spin. I already have an Atraxa superfriends deck, but I wanted to take her in another angle: Infect! She’s one of the most popular commanders for a reason, there’s so many different ways to build her. Lets see if we infect people with a punch of modern Magic.

Hi again @morgunkorn! Yeah, this bulk of the deck can be build on a semi-budget and especially now that Atraxa and Skithiryx (Skittles) has been reprinted.

@@vex_mtg I was thinking of putting some combat tricks in the deck, as I'm playing Duel and a Scale Up / Groundswell / Vines of Vastwood can easily close the game. What do you think of Noble Hierarch?

@morgunkorn You should definitely include Noble Hierarch in your deck, she's very powerful. She was my last cut when building my deck and the only reason I cut her was because she was a human and didn't work with Mutate.

decided to make this deck :) love the idea of infect and mutate and having a praetor commander! You should do more game videos! Even if its just on cockatrice! would be nice to see the decks in action

Really cool build, I personally made some tweaks to make it fit my budget, only chsnged the mana base, still this is an awesome build and I cannot wait to try it

But does a player who loses by infect do so at the same time or after the end step? . Or let me explain better, if there is a situation on the stack with three spells and the opponent with 9 Poison Counters and I decide to proliferate, do you win instantly and also empty the stack in case of multy player or does it resolve and then end of turn loses?

INFECT, the first and the fastest way become Archenemy/common enemy in EDH.

My personal atraxa deck is a straight up infect praetor deck and it is pretty satisfying when my Mana works with me lol

Hi @Art3mis, thanks for asking. For now, I don't see any new cards that come to mind. Infect is in an interesting space where you usually need an infect set or a proliferate set to see additional inclusion.

I have a Atraxa / Wither deck. Infect gets ya in my group to become a game of 3vs1. Very nice build though with Mutate.

Greetings from Russia. Thanks for the review of the deck, I found some new cards for myself :). And I just don’t know what kind of mana base to make so that it’s on the budget (although the atraxа is also foil and borderless)

You can always get the new Innistrad slow lands, they are fantastic. There's shocklands if you can afford them, otherwise run lots of basics. My friend has this deck and runs lots of basics. The only issue is playing Atraxa consistently on turn 4, but otherwise, not too many mana problems.

Hey Vex. I’m in the process of making an Atraxa Infect EDH deck and stumbled on your video. I love the concept and think I want to go the mutate direction. I do have a couple of questions for you. Do you have any updates to this deck list? Also I noticed you didn’t add a ton of pumps, evasion and or counter spells. How does this deck do for you in a 1v1 or free for all EDH? Do you find it to be fast and competitive with consistent draws and wins? Also I would love to see a deck list of your modern infect deck?

I don't have any updates for the list as I don't really update too often (probably every 2 years - video coming up on this update process). The game plan is to get in there with some initial poison, mutate creatures to make them useful/bigger and let proliferate do the rest of the job. The deck is fairly competitive, I love the surprise proliferate for the kill. My modern infect deck is kind of out of date, but there was a top 8 deck from MTGVegas somewhere.

@@chrisarias531 The more opponents you have, the harder it gets. 2HG can be difficult because you have 2 players blocking one set of health. In my experience they work better as low to the ground as possible.

@@veerkillerx so would you not use mutate creatures or just remove the high CMC creatures for better value cards such as more proliferate, ramp and removal?

@@chrisarias531 the idea of mutate is intriguing, but unless it's adding some crazy value, like unblockable, it isn't really the winning strategy. Because infect tends to make you arch enemy at the table, I tend to run every low cmc infect card possible to get that first point in asap and proliferate the rest. The mutate creatures with trample and other keywords to help get past blockers definitely seem useful, though, especially the cheaper ones.

I took breed lethality symbiotic swarm and enhanced evolution together with a couple cards I have and made atraxa monster builder

Good build, definitely need more card draw though because your table will definitely be popping your infect guys and countering right away, and you’ll end up with few cards in hand and no board. Especially when playing engines and creatures that cost 6 to cast, 4 to trigger

You should add Tainted Strike , it gives you alot of option especially when your opponent attacks with a big creature you sneak that in , I had one opponent use a creature with 12 power and the other opponent didn’t block and I just sneak in Tainted Strike one shot killed him

Hi @SaddamHX, thanks for stopping by. I only have this Atraxa Infect deck, I was debating making a Skithiryx Infect deck instead, but we know who won. However, I do have a foil Modern Infect deck. Saskia is a petty neat idea, never thought of that. Do you have a deck list or picture of your decks, I would love to see it. Also, how's the EDH scene in Chile?

@@vex_mtg Hi, for now I don't have a list of my decks or a photo because I don't have them with me but I will have them over the weekend. I am trying to make my Skithiryx deck as aggressive as possible with a lot of mana rocks and low costs, for now I have its mana curve at 2.406 but I want to lower it even more. Saskia is going the same way, her curve goes for 2,444 and I also want to lower it even more. Here in Chile I have not been able to play much lately because of the pandemic but there is a lot of casual Commander, very little competitive Commander ... and very little Infect !! hahaha (If it is not understood very well it is because I am using Google translator) Greetings.

Hi @ItzYaBoiLostKauz, yeah this is good in multiplayer, you just have to give each player at least on poison counter and then you can proliferate them to death. I do want to show off my Atraxa super friends deck, but it's still being tweaked ... again. Stay tuned.

@ItzYaBoiLostKauz, I prefer super friends better, but its so hard to keep Planeswalkers on board because my playgroup treats them as public enemy #1. I'm tweaking the deck to be able to protect my Planeswalkers better.
