This is by FAR the most emotional ending to a video game for me. Not because a character dies but you see a character grow and find happiness. Kratos have come a long way.
@@coolthings7724 because its always his goal, as we can see he really hate his past, even the title "Ghost of Sparta", since people feared him when they knew that title, now he become "All-Father" that people worship not because of fear, but because of love and respect. no wonder he almost crying, he finally free from his curse as God who always bring destruction, now as God who bring peace.
@@coolthings7724 because he finally get what he always wanted since the very first game: Redemption.... remember, Kratos doesn't always wanted revenge against Olympus, at some point, he legit just wanted a redemption for what he had done in the past, which is why he served the gods of Olympus, but of course as we all know it, the Olympians not only outright refuse to give him peace, they also used him and manipulate his anger towards Ares to their own gain. But now, he finallh have his redemption, yes, he did kill yet another pantheon (specifically the Aesir), but this time he did so to save his family (including Mimir, the Dwarves and Freya), and all of the people in the 9 realms that has suffered because of Odin, for the first time, Kratos was seen not as a killing machine or a monster, but instead as a savior and a hero
Yup that's why he didn't really see it as just being loved but more like a path to redemption. You seen it in GoW 2018 and in Ragnarok, Kratos wears his guilt like a cloak. That mural made him realize he wasn't beyond redemption and forgiveness. Freya letting go of her rage and forgiving him was proof of that. Admitting to mistakes isn't weakness, in fact it shows great character. It means you are willing to acknowledge that you are far from perfect but willing to get better.
I love how they were able to show atreus as the god of mischief and deception in a non evil way. He hid secrets from kratos, lying, snuck out all the time but it was for the sake of protecting kratos. He tried to decieve odin for peace. He made his name as the god of mischief while still doing it for the greater good
the funny part is Loki in real life lore share some idea of Jesus, which is not weird to think about since the norse myth stuff is only written after christianity has spread and embraced by the norse people, mostly
Kratos is the god of war, and Bear McCreary is the god of score! (Seriously, his music makes epic scenes turn into badass ones and heavy emotional scenes like this into tear jerkers. Thank you Santa Monica and Bear for yet another legendary entry in the gow franchise!)
I have never cried with a video game as much as I cried with this ending. I lost my dad 10 years ago this month to prostate cancer and he was my best friend. We did everything together like Atreus and Kratos. Having played every GoW. Seeing Kratos go from such a vengeful and angry person to a kind and compassionate one has been some of the greatest development I’ve ever seen. Seeing him breakdown here was just perfect. He fully redeemed himself.
Guaranteed that 99.9999999999999% of people that have followed this game since the beginning were fighting back if not cryin tears of happiness seein him finally get the ending he deserves. Kratos: God of Peace.
Can confirm as a longtime fan (started on 3 but got the ps3 collection with all of the games) Had my close calls with atreus leaving but when they shown the mural of kratos' future It was a herculean feat of will man, this is the first game possible to ever make me move to tears (which is never an easy thing). Braced myself for the possibility that kratos did truly die, even accepting it since he would at least find some peace. But this, I just struggle to find the words to properly describe how I feel about it. Joy of course but also proud I guess That kratos mended his way for both atreus' sake and his own. He was remorseful for his past and became better than who he was and what he got in return was something the greece never gave him. A second chance, something I (really any of us who's been with the series) imagine kratos never thought would ever happen in his life, but ragnarök proved otherwise.
Man seeing Atreus look at not only his Father but also Us at the very end felt so real. I felt like a big brother watching him leave to make his own in the world...
This is a true story we need more games movie like this after all he went through he finally found peace and will be the hero of the realm needed the most as the prophecy says everyone hated him and fear him and now the legend said he will be loved and worship that is one of the most greatest ending game in history
And just like GOW 3…it all comes back to the power of hope. Hope for a better future, hope that what was once broken can be rebuilt again, and hope that the giants will someday return. Kratos used that power to defeat the Greek pantheon, and now he’ll use that power to lead the nine realms towards peace. What an ending.
For some reason i cried in this part not because i was sad but because kratos see his child grown up and he become god of "peace" I really want ng+ in this game and next game. I hope kratos and freya marry. 2 broken persons together.
I know I cannot be the only person who feels like a god of war spin-off game that focuses on atreus would be very awesome. Hell it could have sindri in it as well. I feel like there's a lot left with both of their stories and I want to see more.
Imagine if Atreus finds the Giants in the ruins of Olympus, helping the survivors to rebuild, in the name of the ‘Ghost of Sparta’ who freed them from the Gods of Olympus.
Just completed the game today and this scene had me crying so hard. The journey coming to a conclusion and kratos getting the admiration he deserves. So sad that the Norse saga comes to an end with this game. Really do hope that Atreus and kratos meet again hopefully in a new game. I'm not ready for this to end. Such great storytelling. I'm blown away. Still don't know who blew the mudguard horn in the previous game though 🤔🧐
After 1 yr this still makes my cry how he puts his hands on his paint on that idk But him remembering that hiw he was than before Truly a ending he deserved 🥲🥲
Honestly, the part when Kratos turns to look at Freya at 6:55 catches me. It’s simple but it’s how rigid he looks when asking for help, and how there’s a bit of surprise on her face. Good scene.
Who woulda thought that the game series with a legacy known for violence and brutality would ever give its main character a potential future that could end with "...and he lived happily ever after."?
This hits Hard. Kratos for the first time shed tears knowing that he Will be loved even after death. He did the right thing and changed for not only himself but for those around him and those that he lost along the way. Great ending🎉
You'd think Atreus would've at least attended Brok's funeral first. But still, good for Atreus. Whether this means the next game follows or not, we can only see. Regardless, I look forward to his growth.
It's a tricky situation. On one hand he did leave before he knew there would be one. Add a pinch of guilt in being the cause of said death and Sindri blaming him, unlike Kratos who knows Sindris just lashing out.
5:38 How ironic: Odin once told Kratos what does he know about godhood and asked if he has ever been loved/worshipped. Well, that's exactly what ended up happening, all because he chose to be better. He chose to serve others and ends up living and being worshipped while Odin chose to serve only himself and ends up dead with no worshippers. Faye predicted that when the time comes where his morality is tested, he will choose heroism over vengeance; Kratos chose to save the Midgardians instead of sacrificing them. She predicted everything.
Kratos changing from "The destroyer" to "The rebuilder" it's something amazing. I cannot wait to see what Santa Monica will do next with this character.
Hopefully we see a spin off of Atreus' story of finding the rest of the Jotunns. I know the future of the series isnt' really confirmed but im still excited af
Not gonna lie, I really _really_ fucking wish that this is the end of Kratos' story. Don't get me wrong, I love his character but that's also why I wish its the end of his story. He's been through so much already I just want him to finally retire in peace with all his friends and to be respected as the god that he is.
Firstly Santa Monica studio should make another god of war where he becomes the beloved god, and fall in to Freya. Then they should do something like god of mischief about Atreus finding giants etc
This truly feels like a completion of Kratos's story. From a vengeful god that destroyed an entire pantheon and killed billions of people in his quest for revenge, to now a wise god and father that can truly help lead a world to peace. Kratos made mistakes, but he's learned to be better and now truly is deserving of being a god.
Kraytos understands that he can’t deny his son of his feelings and path because no one could stop him on his path of justice and revenge . “Loki will go” because Loki is the giant the God of mischief that has things to conquer and he’s always going to b restless and making mistakes if he doesn’t go. But “Atreus remains” the son of kraytos will always be . He will always remain in spirit and the heart of THE GOD OF WAR 🫡
He deserves this bruh, after all the bullshit he's been through he actually got what he wanted. To be loved. To be respected. To become the god he's always wanted to be. And honestly, it's one of the best endings we will ever get in the god of war series
@@christopherli3736 no way, then this series goes down the shitter like AC. They need to leave this series here, where it’s perfectly wrapped up and we can all look back at these games with love and respect.
Let's take a moment of silence for those brothers and sisters who are no longer with us and didn't get the chance to witness this beautiful ending to a beloved character
@@mehlife8239 There won't be sequel as Norse story is completely finished here. Probably there will be continuation with completely different story in new realm but most likely that will take few years to happen.
“ Loki will go, Atreus remain “ Hit me hard like a train. *EDITED* thanks for 1k like it’s hard to let our love one go but we must let them go also they’ll remain in our heart forever we cannot erase.
“Take care of everyone” Boy you have literally no idea how impactful those words must have been to Kratos after he saw the depiction of him being loved
I just finished this tonight. And... I tried to hold my tears from this. I just hope they'll reunite together in the future... Kratos... You deserve this man... Your second chance.
That’s the part that made me sad because Likely they will never see each other again, but I hope they do it’s was a bitter sweet ending but it was a great ending
Well the Studio did confirm that there are other Realms of Mythology. So Kratos path will continue. And we also know that in real life the Greek Gods didn't die with Greece, the Romans revived them and gave them new names. I think this is potentially the path the series will take. The Age when Men Create Gods. And the Age when Religions started to appear.
Faye was such an important person in Kratos's life. Destroying his fate on the board so both Atreus and Kratos would create their own fate. Leading to Kratos becoming the God he has yearned to be since leaving Greece. Faye was the reason this was all possible, and she was exactly what Kratos needed.
Her belief in him saved all 9 Realms. It was very fulfilling to play through the Birgir side quest and learn about who Faye was before meeting Kratos. To anyone reading this that loves GOW, in case you missed it, play the “FOR VANAHEIM!!!!” side quest. After you save Freyr in Vanaheim, an animal will guide you to Birgir. Enjoy my friends ❤
in gow 2 olympus refuse to pray to him except spartan whose worship as god of war.. Now in norse all realm started to worship him and loving him as a new ruler of norse realm.. He deserve that
A father seeing his boy grow into a good man and wishing him farewell as the son leaves, the duty of a parent is to protect and raise their kid to be able to handle their own, and Atreus is ready. But not only did Kratos see his son grow up and leave to start his own path, he saw another path open for him: the God of Peace path. After so many MANY years, he’s now loved by people and has achieved peace. He did the best any father could and got the peace he wanted Rest well Kratos, you deserve the peace you finally got.
It looks like Kratos also learn how to become human again, also to elaborate what I mean by become human again I mean by instead of anger having the feeling of acceptance and sadness, he said that his son has to venture on his own, but was happy and accepting that he's ready to face what comes next, hell I can say that Kratos come a long way from being the angry Greek demigod becoming the God of War, so now a Greek god who understands peace
@@demochris1786 "We will be the gods we chose to be, not those who have been. Who I was is not who you'll be, we must be better". That's from this dialogue between son and father dialogue I knew that Kratos understood what his purpose was as a god. Moving forward and try to be better !
this is so fucking absolutely beautiful the writing and the voice acting as well. THE PAIN you can hear in his voice when he says "Atreus Remains" damn man, just raw emotion.
well, if you watch gow ascencion, he cries too, his eyes watery sad in some scenes, in gow 1 he cries too when remembers his past bit with anger, especially when ares kills his family
It's felt really hard to see Kratos cry of Joy to see the path and show him what he deserved. To be loved, worshipped, and a man of Peace. Congrats Sony for making this unbelievable game. Number 2 Fav GoW game behind my fav number 1 GoW game, God of War 3. ❤️
@@mike.hidalgo fax, such a great game man I was feeling sad after completing the story but life goes on mate and this was one instance where the journey has just begun after 1 phase.
Nah god of war will end when they decide to give kratos less screen time for atreus sake The reason the franchise got so popular was bc of kratos I never enjoyed playing as atreus in ragnarok
@@parkout95 I enjoyed it, but it did feel like it dragged on....I like that he's playable, but some of his sections are so long and while its good for the story, it's no where near the level of playing as Kratos. It couldn't be, but it does set the game back just a little because of that
Sadly as I remember it’s the last game in the Norse mythology. I do hope they don’t spam it like AC and they won’t send him to Egypt or whatever for no reason.
@@studenovavgust Kratos’s story concludes nicely with this ending, so it’s not unlikely that the next game will be about Atreus seeking out the giants outside the Norse world.
No way. I wouldn’t say ruler. He’s like captain America he valued freedom and always saved those or animals who were enslaved. Once everything is done and over with. Kratos didn’t rule. He would rather return home or set down the path Faye gave him.
I wont lie, I cried when I saw this😢. Kratos let's his son go to finally walk his own path and sees the future of what he is to become. Loved and respected by all. A God of peace. he obtained something he was fine without having and got it anyway. seeing him cry for that was heavy. it's well deserved after all he's been through. he's endured through all of it and will now begin to reap the reward for his hard work.
The ending was already pretty moving when thinking about Atreus’ arc… but when he just immediately hugged Kratos… man it was over for me… this game has made me cry more then any other game I’ve played… a story of a Father and son…
Kratos isn’t the perfect father (no such thing imo) but he is a great father much better father than Zeus. Kratos got what he deserved in the end after all his suffering and the goodbye between him and his son was so bittersweet.
I think it’s more like no matter what had happened in the past or the things you have done, you can still change for the better. Kratos subverted the Norns prophecy not by killing them but by changing his nature, admitting he was wrong to Atreus and instead of seeking vengeance, seek Justice and protecting the innocents
Atreus didn't leave norse mit this tittle is wrong also kratos said he will stay norse mit and rebuild asgard for himself but the producdors said this game will end of the norse mit o think in the next game when kratos bring peace to 9 realm a stranger enemy from different mit will come and kratos will go enemy's mit for stopping him also i think atreus will be see this enemy and he will go this mit and the will be together again last thing i think sindri will send this new enemy we will see next sony ps events state of sony(or sony of state idk)
@UChglQUvnXNrlPwsX-vGMpPw no in the prequel comics set before the 2018 god of war game it explains what happens after he left Greece and he went to Egypt
This is scene really hit me and make me cry a little, it's so beautiful seeing the relationship of kratos and atreaus, and see how evolved in the game of kratos being a father scared for what might happen to his soon, to fully trust in him and wish the Best for him, kratos really loves his soon and this scene probes it.
We understand. His pain for losing his family is what drived him. He didn't want to lose his son, too. His intensity for revenge was the same for him trying to protect.
Having played all 8 official games… holy shit Kratos crying over being loved and admired is making the tears fall. Kratos is by far my favourite video game character of all time.
Man.. seeing the protagonist of the metal gear solid games get subtle recognition by his rival in splinter cell, seeing Geralt and the whole of characters in witcher 3 greet its fans as the player made its adventure with Geralt, and then THIS Kratos getting that praise and seeing him vulnerable like that - it feels good to grow with these characters. We are all getting old.. but at least we all grow old, as fans and players, together, and we were all brought together by these beloved characters and games and we in turn, for a few moments, found our peace and forgot division. Thank you to these game devs for wonderful gameplay, story telling, and most of all, relatable characters!
As parents all we can hope for is to be better and do our best to end any cycle of hatred. I'm thankful for Santa Monica developing Kratos as a character even hes of godlike magnitudes as parents you'll find urself in these games .
It was said in the boring ironwood sections that all the marbles they got are all that’s left in all of the nine realms. There may be giants in greece and atreus might venture there.
Redemption. Forgiveness. Change. Love. For anyone who has followed the God of War franchise from the beginning, and for those who joined anywhere along the way, we can all learn from the path forged by this character as well as the companions and enemies he’s encountered along the way. A masterpiece.
Pay attention to the music when Atreus is talking to Angrboda before he leaves. It’s Celtic, and if you’re wondering where the next game is gonna end up, I think that’s a huge clue for his story moving forward.
Maybe him glowing gold is the white ash of his dead family being removed from his body a sort of redemption kind of to let go of that pain of failure so early on in his life.symbolism for becoming a better being I guess.
Or it's the ash of Faye, coming back to him, being with him forever, he will hold both apon his skin. The past he can move on from, but never forget, and the golden future that Faye had set him down the path towards, and her always being there.
seeing kratos's lip quiver after watching his son leave without him and not knowing if he'll be okay yet still being proud of him is so sad and so emotionally powerful
