The Attabad Tunnel is a significant infrastructure project located in the Gilgit-Baltistan region of Pakistan. It consists of a series of five tunnels, collectively spanning approximately 7 kilometers (4.3 miles), and is part of the Karakoram Highway. The tunnels were constructed to bypass a section of the highway that was submerged due to a massive landslide in 2010, which created the Attabad Lake. The tunnels provide an essential route connecting the northern regions of Pakistan with China, facilitating trade and travel. Constructed in a challenging mountainous terrain, the project showcases significant engineering and construction capabilities restoring a critical segment of the Karakoram Highway, the tunnels have helped revive economic activities and tourism in the region The tunnels offer a safer and more reliable alternative to the previously hazardous route along the lake's edge. The project was completed with the assistance of China and officially opened in September 2015. It has since played a crucial role in enhancing the region's infrastructure and economic development #attabad
