Thanks for your help! I took it one step further and used a hair dryer on hot setting to really get the plate to stick to the mount and then again on the car after cleaning it with alcohol. It's perfect!
Hey sir! I just wanted to give you a big shout out and thank you. I just moved to Texas and ran into the problem with not realizing I needed a front plate lol. Got those Velcro strips and it prevented me from drilling into my bumper. I just wanted to say thank you!
😂😂 so I’m not the only one. I just received my plates and asked “why do I need two?” I was dreading adding holes to my 2022 bby. So I RU-vid other ways and BOOM this just saved me the heartache. Lol
Thanks! Nice job! Unfortunately, my 2023 Nissan Kicks needs a bracket installed on the front bumper to have a place to put it. 🙃 Who knows, maybe I'll be able to Velcro that part to the bumper too, then the plate. I hope all that sticks with monsoon rains. 😁Wish me luck! 🤞
Ok ik you've answered similar question already but I need clarification... is this the tape and loop velcro? Or just sticky on both sides? Thanks in advance for your reply
@Bill C I'd argue that a person with an electric drill could take that plate off quicker then a Velcro plate - that stuff is not easy if it's been locked together long term, especially tangled and dirty. Zerrrp - 1 screw, Zerrrp 2-screw , plates off. Nobodies' walking around with a screw driver if they're serious about taking a plate
Someone would have to have enough suspicion to attempt to pry it off. This is something you’re either certain of or not. So this whole scenario isn’t practical. 😂
Nothing is worse than having to drill a hole in your brand new car. Now you don't have to. Leave a comment and let me know what you think of my method. I can assure you, it's very secure.
@@MagnumVideos is there a way the plate could get stolen? Bc it’s Velcro? I don’t think it will happen but I’m not sure it wouldn’t. Is there a way I could secure the plate from theft?
Thank you for sharing. My personalized rear license plate was stolen several years ago. California Dept of Motor Vehicles said if the thief stole my front and rear plates, I could no longer use my personalized configuration😮. I would rather pay the fine than have a thief also steal my personalization. Is it the same in Missouri? Would hate for you to lose your very cool personalization.
Great presentation but my car has a pointed nose and not a flat enough surface to put the plate on mike that, I would have to bend it. Also what happens when you have to remove it? Does the Velcro come off easily>
I appreciate your resourcefulness - if people don't like your idea's - simple don't watch - why take the time to post something negative? It speaks more about them as a person than anything and puts it on blast for people to see! I love this idea and have used sticky Velcro on so much stuff! I recently moved to a place that requires a front plate so I will most definitely give this a go! Thanks :)
It holds when the Velcro is new. But I do believe eventually you will hit a bump or something and you will lose your license plates there’s a lot of force driving 60,70 miles an hour with wind and bumps. Those are not going to stay on there. Unfortunately, my recommendation would still be using old fashion screws.
I’m going to try this because if it comes off, oh well, I live in a state where front isn’t required. I just want to put on a cool non permanent vanity plate.
That's alright, I just watched a video of a dude drilling holes in the BODY on the front of his car for the plate. No Thank You! However, I don't have the luxury of that flat surface that you have. I have about a 4 in surface that curves downward and nothing under that to secure the bottom of the plate to.
Hi Sir, Thank you for your sharing. Could you please let me know which dual lock you used? There are too many brand dual lock in the market. I'm looking for a dual lock durable and won't fall off.
I am afraid this will not stick in -20 degree weather! will the velcro hold it also gets 115 degrees here! I do not want to keep replacing license plates.
thank you for the video I'm going to try it on my 4runner I have two quarters holes going to advertise my shop using a front lic. plate. I do have a question since its been 2 yrs is it still holding ? thank you
@@MagnumVideos Looks like you mentioned you purchased the Velcro from hobby lobby (looks like 3m). Is the frame necessary? Also, do you think the Velcro would stick to the bumper? Looks like you placed it in front of the vent area.
I'm not sure if it's 3M or not. It just said sticky back velcro or something like that. If the bumper is clean it should stick fine. I've used this process on the Ford Escape and prior to that on my Mustang GT and I think I put it on the bumper. I have been seeing TV ads for "Monkey Magnets" which are sticky back magnets that might work for this application as well. The Velcro is going to be cheaper though. @@GunterandthePenguins
@@MagnumVideos Oh that's good to hear! I'm going to be doing it on a Camry. The magnets are a good idea. That way I could put them. Behind the bumper and on the license plate, but you're probably right that the Velcro is the most correct efficient option. I'm gonna get a frame (so it looks nicer) then try this out. Thank you for doing the video and for the feedback :)
It's not actually double-sided velcro. It's just regular velcro with a sticky back on both the loops side and the hooks side. If you go to Home Depot or Lowes and ask someone they can show you exactly what you need. Also, Hobby Lobby or Michaels should have it. Or you can search online for "sticky back velcro" or something similar to that description. It's very common and not hard to find. Thanks for watching!
I can't tell you that for sure, but I know I've driven lots of miles in the past 5 years and it gets pretty windy here, and I haven't had it blow off yet. Velcro is pretty dependable stuff usually.
would this fall off with a carwash? It really annoys me having to put a front plate. I think its dumb because if you are getting pulled over an officer will be behind you.
Mine has been through several car washes and didn't fall off. The velcro is very secure. And I agree front plates are ridiculous. My wife has a Miata and I've never figured out where to attach one on the front.
But ..With Velcro anybody could just come up and swipe it off if they notice that you don’t actually have it screwed to the car. I honestly think that in a state that requires a front license plate you may as well drill the front of your car because you are going to get stopped at some point whether you’re speeding or whether you run a light by accident and you’re gonna get fined on top of whatever they stop you for because you don’t have a properly installed front plate. And Velcro overtime is gonna give out it’s not meant to be used out the weather, heat, Etc.
Nothing preventing someone with a screwdriver or drill to do the same thing. And if you use industrial strength Velcro, that plate is not coming off until you want it to.
I just got a package with small rectangles of squares in it. About an inch square I think. Black. Cheap. Nothing fancy. They were sticky-back so they went on really simple.
I like your resourcefulness but you are better off drilling holes. They are, of course, completely hidden by the OEM plate bumper mount on most vehicles. If the person you sell your car to doesn’t want it on anymore (unlikely around here: CA requires them and you *will* be ticketed - not by the cops, but by parking enforcement) you can buy some matching color plugs that snap in and sit flush on the bumper holes so you can’t even see them unless you are looking. Takes 5 seconds. Note that the holes are only 3/8” anyway, same as a .38 pistol bullet or a pen.
@@MagnumVideos I went to staples and hooked mine up yesterday immediately after I watched the video. Thanks again, I received 2 tickets in 1 week because of this.
I'm not convinced that this will hold up, specially if you drive over patchy, uneven roads, like the ones we have here in South Florida (i.e. I-95 and FL Turnpike).
Anyone take a vehicle through a car wash with this sticky back velcro? I would not trust it. And if the brush pulls off the plate or bracket, the damage done will be a lot worse than a few holes in a bumper. (You can plug those holes if needed)
Mine have been through the car wash at least 50 times and never any issues. And even if it did pull it off, I highly doubt there would be ANY damage since the Velcro is stuck to the bumper and not attached with a screw. It has worked great for me on the last two cars.
