Wish I had found you sooner. Your method of attaching joining strips is way easier than I have been doing. I will be checking out your videos in the future.

i love the attitude you have to quilting as a beginner i often find i am getting stressed over precision and have started to learn from your videos to be more relaxed and strangely the more relaxed sometimes the better the outcome so thanks

Thanks for this video. Wasn’t sure how to do this. I do get vertigo watching some of your videos so would be great if you could stabilize camera

Thank you . I've been useing the qayg method but not with the strips . I do it with a backing that is an inch larger than the front piece and sew it wrong sides together then press the extra flap in front open and fold into itself twice then sew it down along the front . I like your way too.

Looks great. I do the joining in reverse…1” in back, 2” in front, to join squares, border etc. gives a narrow colour between

So you cut batting 1/2” smaller than top and backing? Thanks. Your videos are very helpful
@TheCraftyAuthor
@TheCraftyAuthor 3 года назад
Hi Audrey- It depends. If I place the batting in between two border pieces and use sashing, then I cut it about a 1/4" smaller. If I sew the 2 pieces of fabric on without the batting, I will cut the batting to fit inside after the 2 pieces have been sewn on. It doesn't have to be exact, but you will want the batting in there. I guess what I am trying to say is that there isn't a set measurement as it will vary depending on the size of your border. I hope that makes sense. 😊

I have this fabric in jelly rolls from Joann's Fabrics...but in the black and white....and the grey and white color-ways! I've seen it in pink and white as well there...

Have a question: does your 1" strip have to be 1"? Can it be 1 1/2"?
@TheCraftyAuthor

Your strip can be whatever size you want to work with. 😊

What are the size of joining strings? Can I use 4 inches on the front and 2 inches string?
@TheCraftyAuthor
@TheCraftyAuthor 2 года назад
You can use whatever size you are comfortable with. I would do a test with the sizes on a test block and if you like the way it looks then I would proceed with that size. I believe I used 1.5” on the front and 2” on the back.

Can you have 2 Borders on quilt as you go
@shirleynicolaides9890
@shirleynicolaides9890 7 лет назад
It is better to put the folded strip on the FRONT and the narrow strip on the back.
@sandibird1680
@sandibird1680 2 года назад
that way it would look the same as the strips in between the blocks, great idea

You should add to your title the word 'Wide'. I am new to QAYG and found it very difficult to search for Wide borders. Adding this to the title would help people like me find you on RU-vid easier. Thanks for the very helpful video. But, less movement of the camera would be nice.

Instead of batting could you use fleece?
@TheCraftyAuthor

H C Yes, you absolutely can. I have used fleece instead of batting many times. 😊

Can you show or tell me how to add the borders on the other end please?
@TheCraftyAuthor
@TheCraftyAuthor 4 года назад
@Kathy- The process to adding the borders on the other end is the same. I recommend doing the top, the bottom, then add the sides.

I put the 2” (folded in half) on the FRONT, and green 1” on the back. Works the same, really…

Did you use a walking foot to do the wavy lines?
@TheCraftyAuthor
@TheCraftyAuthor 6 лет назад
Meegan Gaffney - Yes. I have also used my machine stitches with my walking foot to quilt my quilts in the past. It gives it just an extra special touch, I feel. 😊

How do you prevent WAVY BORDERS ?
@rosiehowell5575
@rosiehowell5575 4 года назад
Well I learned one thing....I’ve been doing sashing incorrectly. I put the one inch strip on bottom and the folded two inch strip on top. I’m going to reverse on my next quilt and see if it is easier
@TheCraftyAuthor
@TheCraftyAuthor 4 года назад
Rosie- There really isn’t a right or wrong way for the placement of the sashing. You just have to figure out which way you prefer. I have done both and I prefer the folded portion on top. I just finished a t-shirt quilt using sashing and I cut the top and bottom sashing at 1.5”. It actually worked out really well and now I prefer using the same size strips. I use decorative stitching on my sashing anyway, so I didn’t have any effect on the way the quilt stitching looked. It was much easier with the sashing all the same size. You might want to give that a try and see if you like that better as well. 😊
