I lasted 17 years as a CO. Never had a problem with an inmate, words wouldn't solve. I used to tell the youngsters, if you aren't ready to ruin everyone's day, don't do it. Respect goes a long way in that world. Trust me, if I could've went my whole career without using force I would've counted it a win. Smoke is the last thing to step off in there looking for. Every man is due his measure of respect, regardless of his position in life.
Dang. I can see that this one got you deeply analytical and thinking. Understood. I fought my case for 30 months in LA CJ, 6 of them in K10 or High Power. We had a reasonably cool sergeant ( big changes after the Feds busted a bunch of Sheriffs in the place ), and he actually came to me once and asked me to school his deps cos he had some green ones. So I had to break it down for them - we escort in waist chains, chicken winged up. But, we walk head high. No hands on inmates. No yelling at any inmate who is from the HP. Clear the halls cos we are vulnerable, so we will go off if a fool steps to us. No games like walking into an elevator first cos on camera that's a strike against us, and we lose showers or our 3 hours in the cages every 2 weeks. And it worked cos there was madness on those tiers. Great video, dang. I don't want no more lock-up life.

30 years with CDC (before the "R" was added) You are 100% right about the way things were run back in the day.When I started,my training officer told me," your job is to make sure they don't kill each other,they don't kill us,or they dont escape!! This is THEIR house,not ours! The sooner you understand that,the easier it will be for you."......Best advice I ever got.
Watched that prison guard channel last night about this one he said he heard the audio recording from the prison where this happened at he said when dude got slammed one of the southerners shouted out surenos nortenos lets go or something like that and all the southerners jumped and the northerners were like fuk that ain’t our business n stayed out of it ….ALSO wanna say another good video! Hopefully some co can watch your channel to keep unnecessary shit from happening if they learn a couple things from you

I heard a little different version of how it went down, but the main issue was the same as what you said...snatching the leche off of homeboys tray. I finished my retirement as a CO. I hit a compound in 95. I was trained by convict guards. The change in COs started when they changed the training program so they could put women on the yards. Also, they forced us to start escorting dudes by the arm because of lawsuits from dudes falling/tripping who were cuffed up. Before this change, we cuffed dudes behind their backs with leg irons. After the change, they were cuffed in front, belly chain and black box, and leg irons. I was a cop and Co in Florida but it was a national change in the training program. We had females in the control rooms before this but they didn't work the yards. After the change they worked them on the yards. It created all kinds of BS. They do their job based on emotion. You know what I'm saying.
Hey now Dubs hope all is going good for you and yours. You ready for this supposed massive storm? I went to a cell living yard at 20 in 2001 and there were still guards not correctional officers. They didn't care if we ran the tier and did whatever as long as we were doing so discreetly. I went back in 2006 on a violation and Wasco still had its guards but there were a lot more of those corrections officers I can't imagine what it's like in there these days. Have a good weekend
Even though we don't necessarily target CO's we can't allow them to disrespect us because if we do them they will wrongly assume they can do whatever they want to us. We are men and we demand respect it's really very simple. I'm still the same guy nothing has changed as far as the respect issue is concerned. It's a hard balance sometimes and the best we can do is what we feel is right.

In the feds,level 5 they escorted us to yard and shower they hold ur arm s one co per side ..when they blibked,I kept my razors tucked in my towel the cs key saying gime the razor I Saud I chucked it un the bin he didn't believe me but he also didn't wanna make a scene .I made two filer8s homes .stashed them in toothpaste tube and they never fiund them.we were required to be armed at all times that wa s stress f ull . Cays he was his secretary writing and reading every will can't let know but it was on site on blue getups,in feds in newnex then southern blacks from Alabama didn't know west coast etiquette and they tripped wen shit got live,they saT on the ground in show of submission
Taking another step back couldn’t it be that being there’s reglas in the chow hall had homie never stepped out of line to grab that milk this incident had of never occurred? Unfortunately the C.O reacted the way he did and dude counter reacted. Nevertheless, after all investigations are done we’ll see who gets held accountable for lighting this fire and get dealt with. I’m glad I can just go to my refrigerator and get some extra milk.

In the 70s, guards were more friendly with other inmates than other guards. I knew this guy that his cousin was a guard here on same yard. Back then mutual respect, they said ,I don't care what you guys do, just don't kill each other, and leave me out of it l left in 2013 and it's just nothing, all these classes no teachers, bag food always, top ramen s are money now, everyone broke, restitution 55%.
Hermano that story about a CO snatching a milk reminds me of GTMO. I was a guard there and I was very reasonable and due to me being reasonable I was always on the hard pods. It’s pretty easy to treat a man like a man but still follow the rules. I wasn’t there to judge but to make sure they were all protected and received their necessities. The funny thing is usually the pods I was on didn’t pop off. 🤔
