The '91 version of Deltarune is actually extremely rare. I heard the only copy came bundled with Toby Fox's birth certificate as part of a limited-time promotional offer. Sega was trying some pretty weird marketing strategies during that period.

This Toby Fox guy is ridiculously talented. Given that Deltarune released in 1991, he started to work on it before he was even born. That's nothing short of amazing!

An interesting case of where the fuzzy CRT screen makes the game almost look better, because all the pixels blend together. With crystal clear graphic, the pixels stand out and emphasize the limitations more.
Yeah plenty of games made at the time were made with that effect in mind. You’ll sometimes hear people insisting on getting an old crt for this reason.
Yes, totally agree on that the game looks better with the filter. It gives Deltarune some extra charm and makes big, flat spaces of colour look more visually appealing (thanks to the noise and grain).
that was just called the megadrive having shit composite output, i mean most consoles give out a vaguely bad composite output on a crt, but the megadrive was on the worse end of the composite output spectrum
I remember waking up on September 17, 1991... And I just heard about this new game called Deltarune Chapter 2... I got it and was really excited to play it on my Sega Genesis. It looked amazing. The graphics were like no other, the gameplay felt really nice, the music was absolute perfection, and the characters were hilarious and funny. I was lucky enough to get the last copy on the shelf. Everybody had already got most of the copies already. It was a successor to the Super Nintendo game, Undertale. It was a special game... I wonder if I still have the system and cartridge for it...
oh man, i remember this game!! i was like... seven when it came out? yeah!! September 17th 1991, right? i got it about 2 weeks after it came out, since my birthday is in early October. man, the internet wasn't even big yet, but this "Fox" guy or whatever managed to make an entire world around it. impressive stuff, yknow? i never actually got around to buying chapter 1, and i've never heard about the others. obscure games are kinda my thing though. the music in this game was always mind boggling. that bird guy, the salesman, those 3 radio people.. it's crazy! the range of styles is so impressive, and what they did with the limitations of the hardware is absolutely amazing. if "mr. fox" and his team are still around, id love to see this series revived!
@@funtendo95 I believe that he is actually a crossover with Mr Fox’s other game, Undertale. However its strange as Undertale came out years later after Deltarune.
Not only does this absolutely slap, but the static and compression fits the early internet vibes of Chapter 2 CRAZY well. It would be absolutely perfect for Spamton.
Wow, Toby is a genius! He released chapter 2 in the year he was born! Chapter 1 came three years before which means that he made Deltarune before he was even concieved!
Fun fact: Deltarune fits well within the maximum allowed size for a Sega CD disk. Assuming that the Sega CD has the processing power to run it (which is not out of the question), you could theoretically port it over and fight Queen on a god damn Sega CD
God this is giving me memories of when I played the Sonic Collection on a gamecube but used a old 90s TV because it was the only one my parents had left for me. God it was magical
This makes a hella load of sense considering Deltarune chapter 2 is like an extention of Chapter 1, and like Sonic 3, Sonic & Knuckles was an extention of that game Lock on technology saves everything
I'm gonna cry on this like 10 years later, possibly when the final chapter of deltarune comes out. All the memories, Jevil, Lancer, Queen, Ralsei. Not to mention Undertale, the one that started it all, the game that got me into Deltarune. I'll be all grown up and have a job, a family, my own life. I'll remember the days I was young and didn't have many responsibilities, the days where I stay up all night not to do work, but to beat Sans. The fact that I know one day this will happen, makes me want to cherish every moment now, long as I'm still young.

I really liked the first game on the master system but the spin-off was just better, not only did the graphics look good it also had better gameplay than Undertale and the lock-on technology was WAY ahead of its time. Deltarune is one of the best Genesis games I ever played. - Some game journalist, I guess

The Genesis is the only thing that could even remotely do this in 1991 and even then, it would pale in comparison I like the idea of a fictional old masterclass console that existed back then but was forever gone for some reason
The concept of this having been an old forgotten project from the 90s is kinda surreal to me. The idea of some “Every Copy is Personalized” style of creepiness really feels at home with the concept. I can just imagine the game being super unfinished feeling because the tech wasn’t quite “there” in order to make it a reality. Yet, it’s still playable. The idea of this game being analogue horror instead really fascinates me…

Does anyone else remember that one iCarly episode where Spencer got really obsessed with this game? Like he became a real theorizer about it, didn’t realize the game had already been fully out for 5 years at that point? I can’t find it and was looking for it when I found this video.
It my be hard if Toby could do that, because in the early and mid 90's, PC games are hard to run, but there's John Carmack who made adaptive tile refresh to make certain games run easier.

Man crazy to think that Toby Fox was able to work around the 10 voice limit on the YM2612 and SN76489 to create the music for this game back then, I heard this game was released on the Sega CD to really give the soundtrack that Red Book quality audio
Yes, he used the ultimate Genesis soundfont. I know as I've heard it before, but by emulating an actual YM2612 and an actual TI-SN76489, you get a broader range of sounds to work with.
