I think Annie was laughing out of happiness because there wasn't a need to pretend to be someone else anymore and she could finally be relieved of this big secret. The only time she smiled.

"Annie come with us please, please, please, please, pleaaaaaase!" "No." "It didn't work!" In the distance "GOD FUCKING DAMNIT!"

Annie's laugh seems crazy, but it also came right after they openly outed her. All that stress of keeping her identity a secret is suddenly released. The crazy element I think may just come from her realizing she's probably fucked so she's preparing to fight as if she has nothing to lose.

I didn’t figure out it was Annie right away. It wasn’t until they started questioning her at the entrance to the tunnel that I figured it out. Maybe I’m slow lol, idk. It was a huge “holy shit” moment for me though

I love the amount of respect the writer has for his audience. He gave enough hints that he knew most people (that paid attention) would figure out the Female Titan’s identity at this point, so he also had the characters in the show figure it out as well. That’s why when it was finally “revealed” it wasn’t really treated like a reveal.

Annie also saved Connie when he failed in kiling the titan. I didn't figure out immediately until the scene wherein Armin asked Annie to help them smuggle Eren out. LOL

That was me who mentioned the clip - she did save Jean :)! Great job Morgan for picking her out early!! I bet Dani struggled to not give a little smile in previous episodes when you kept saying it 😂. Don't worry guys there is great development coming for the story. Anyways regarding the Military Police, if no one joins from the top 10, then no one joins the MP from that cohort. I think the guy was implying Hitch (The short hair'd MP girl) did some sort of like sexual favor or something. As for the reveal, I had my suspicions like Morgan, considering her nose/hair/fighting style. But of course, it was obvious in this episode when they opened with her.

I remember when I first watched it I was so confused what was going on. For me, it wasn't obvious it was Annie, I was honestly thinking maybe Armins mom. Their whole conversation of her not wanting to go down the steps had me confused until Mikasa pulled out her blades. Then I realized what was going on. That said I binge watched the show so any question I had I would go to the next episode to see if it would answer my questions.

Pls try to avoid the comment section as much as possible if you don't want any spoilers. The AOT fandom doesn't think twice before doing anything(well most of them).

In my case, while watching I convinced myself it's no way that it's Annie cause she's all the way in the center of wall Sina. Welp xD.

I speculated it was annie and confirmed it was her when the episode started on her backstory. She saved Jean's life and she saved Sasha too when they were stuck inside the building and shot the titans in the eyes. Everyone usually forgets that.

the more you watch this show, the more you understand why annie does all of that. i feel sorry for her. she's sad, all the time, because she knew she will be the bad person someday. oh my annie

I frickin love Annie’s character, I hope y’all watch the Lost Girls OVA (but if you do make sure it’s after Season 2 because there are some major spoilers in there)

In the moment I wasn't thinking who the Titan could be. I don't even think I considered there were other human-Titans other than Eren.

Well the female titan identity to me was found based on paying a lot of attention to cinematic details and story clues. Annie had a significant scene with Armin before the expedition started making her seem like a somewhat important character. My first suspicion was that the female titan's appearance is similar to hers, and from that initial suspicion things kept on snowballing. The one thing I remembered about Annie was that she was a kick-ass female martial artist and *very* skilled. If there's one thing I remember a character for, it's being a bad-ass martial artist who is also a strong female. So the way she expertly disposed of the troops, while also sparing her fellow classmates, just made it look like her more. They pointed out that the female titan had to be a spy familiar with their gear who was there when Eren transformed, again pointing to her. Finally the way she fought Eren in the forest basically confirmed it to me 100%. I love watching animated martial arts moves so any hint of that just makes it clear to me. And if there was ever any doubt, in the opening for this arc, when all the characters are being shown, Annie has a very significant and symbolic spot that also gives it away. All the other characters are facing towards the left, but she's the last one who turns to look toward the right at the very end.

Spoilers for why Annie laughed The reason she laughed was because she realised she had feelings for Armin which caused her mission to be messed up. This scene in particular was added by Isayama's request to the anime team.

If she were just evil she wouldn't have spared Armin or saved some people in the first few episodes, or prevented the boy from being beaten. The character is a little more complex, many things still need to be revealed.

idk if you will see this, but annie isn't "crazy" or "insane" in this moment;; it's been confirmed by isayama that annie was laughing out of relief that she didn't have to lie to them anymore and there was no need in pretending; also, the reason why she went along with armins plan is because she just wanted him to think she was a good person one last time before she did what she had to do. she isn't crazy, just a person with a goal in mind that didn't want to do any of this.

with season 4 out, its so crazy to see these episodes again

I watched all episodes very fast, without time between them, so I didn't realize who was the female Titan until the moment Annie turned into a Titan in this episode. This show likes to surprise so that's why I kinda thought Annie wasn't the Titan because it would be obvious, but they surprised me XD. And I even thought that Annie's laugh was she saying "just kidding, I'm not the Titan". Annie gets more attention in the opening when they are showing the squad, maybe that helped you two think more about Annie (before this episode). That's why I don't recommend watching any of the openings, even the "safe" ones has little details that gives information to those who likes to think a lot about it (like you two XD).

You're right about that scene when Jean was stuck with faulty gear. In the proper version Annie kicks/leans on a titan to push it out the way otherwise jean would of flew straight into its mouth. For some weird reason it only shows a very small part of that scene on some websites which made the scene confusing. When I finally did see the proper version of the scene it made a lot more sense.

You are supposed to figure out that was her right away. In English subtitles there wasn't, but in Japanese version subtitle, Eren said "Ann..." just before his head was kicked off. So that's an official confirm of her being the suspect. BUT I was really tricked by Armin's lie in the next episode, which made me think maybe that's not her and there'd be a plot twist. And then when they're at the entrance I was finally convinced.

I figured out it was Annie pretty quickly based on her nose/face and alittle later on seeing her fighting style as a titan.

When I watched S1 for the first time, I'm pretty much the same as you guys, just like a potato and enjoy the ride. 😂 And then when I rewatched it, it feels completely different. Because you can feel the depth of the characters and you have the missing pieces from later Seasons, it feels like any character can carry this show.

Figured it out right away that it was Annie due to the Titans design either Krista or Annie, and after I had seen that Krista was with the scouts I immediately knew it was Annie. But wanted to know why and what’s going on? Crazy how good this show leaves you wondering with questions.

I don't know if I'm remembering wrong because its been a while(6 years lol) but I swear that it was a common joke/meme when I first saw this that it was TOO obvious it was Annie because it looked just like her, plus the other details. It seemed like most people kind of knew right off the bat. Pretty sure I thought it was her instantly too, which probably made me think maybe its someone else because that'd be too easy? Hard for me to remember at this point. As the years have gone by, its become a lot more common for people to be unsure of who it is though.

A lot of things slipped past me, but I did figure it was Annie just based on the look of the female titan and the fact that she fought with technique. I only felt sure once I saw sleepy Annie in this episode though, a subtle hint on the fact that she'd been very busy the day before! Also, I don't think it's too spoilery to say there'll be a little more info at some point on Marco and there will be closure on that.

In 2013 I binged Attack on Titan really fast. I was so addicted, I didn't have enough time to guess it was Annie since I watched it in the span of a week or so. Or maybe I was just very slow and lacked enough curiosity to even want to guess back then lol

I think Annie was actually kind of laughing at herself. Despite a ton of alarm bells going off in her head she till wanted to help armin she wanted to believe that she hadn’t been discovered even when she knew better. so when mikasa comes right out and says it, I think that Annie found it kind of funny. Funny that it had come to this and that she had be trapped so easily. Annie had every opportunity to wreck their plan from the beginning but her willingness to go along with the scouts was her downfall. Great reaction lost of fun can’t wait for more!

"There better be some good backstory to this". Don't worry, the backstory is the spine of the entire story. As a viewer or reader you just don't know about it yet. The actions of the different characters make perfect sense, for the most part. One of the best aspects of Attack on Titan, in my opinion at least, is the way everything is gradually revealed. Have fun going forward. :)

When I watch these things I try not to be critical about it especially when the 1st time I watched it all the episodes were already out so I pretty much just binged it and didnt ha e to wait too long to figure things out. When i first watched the first season, i didnt figure out annie was the female titan at first probably because, like sam said, i just sit down and binge mindlessly (mostly lol). I guess this is why i like watching reactions of two or more people because there's conversation while the episode is playing and they bounce off ideas from each other. Loving your reactions, btw. When I watched this show I could definitely tell that the female titan had Annie's nose. I don't think anyone else in the series has a nose that's drawn like hers. Add the blonde hair and blue eyes on top of that and I was all but certain it was her.

I figured out it was annie the first time because it looked like her too much and the way she was moving and fighting. I loved that it was her honestly because i always thought she was an interesting, mysterious character and to have confirmation that she was the freaking female titan this episode got me hyped lmao i loved your reaction!

I have a lot of casual watching friends, to then it was all a surprise. For me I like to look at everything deeply and analyze, etc. as soon as I seen her face clearly in titan form I was like, yeah that’s Annie. XD

It's been some years, so I don't remember exactly which episode previous to this I began thinking it could be Annie, but when the episode started with a flashback of her, I remember thinking "huh...," and then when they showed her in bed with her hair down, I was like "ah, it's Annie"

i did not know it was annie. when they showed her going to the inner wall, i thought that was it for her...and yes, she did save jean ...that was an epic scene, idk why they would cut it... dnt forget attack on titan in 9 minutes tho...
