There's a lot of Erens in Eren's head. Explains a lot. Like, at any given moment, which Eren are you actually talking to? Which Eren is flipping the switches, pulling the levers in Eren's head?
@@albino478gaming5lelouch and light did too (both of them wiped thier own memories of certain events such that nobody would suspect them if i rmbr correctly)
Also, Eren sees the future when he kisses Historia's hand because he saw Grisha's memories of the visions Grisha saw that were shown to him by future Eren. Future Eren sent memories to Grisha, and then Grisha's memories of these visions were seen by present Eren.
That always confused the fuck out of me , why did he need to kiss historias hand for the memories to come to him , if it's an attack titan power not a founding Titan power
Headcannon: Eren lives in the paths at the end of the series. He is connected to every eldian for generations to come (if they even exist at the end of the story). True freedom achieved.
@@Dark_Trap998 cuz the only way that they saw eren is because hes in the path dimension and can travel to see the past, he has no future memories of someone else only himself so that proofs my theory
@@rachavinvitayakovit1408 spoiler *** At the end of the manga where they bury Eren in the tree in the intro of season 1 rp 1. Two kids are seen peeking into that very same tree; maybe hinting at another season or just using imagery as a hint of the endless loop of paradise island finding the founding titans source.
Head cannon. When Eren sent the letters to the scouts, he also sent one to Willy Tybur. Eren and Willy worked together to unite humanity again a common enemy (Eren) and for the world to have a true hero again (willy)
Not exactly. Yes, AT holders can see memories of future AT holders, but the mechanism is that future AT holders can send back memories to previous AT holders, not vice versa. The distinction is important! Grisha can see Eren's memories because Eren sends those back. However, it's future Eren who controls what he sends back because Grisha asks whether Carla is alive or not and why Eren won't show him more of the future. I would have also just re-emphasized that Eren cannot see the future in all its detail. He saw bits of the future via what his future self sent back to Grisha. He doesn't know exactly how everything will play out (common misconception). Eren knows he's going to start the Rumbling but not how events play out for it to happen which is why he questions it all and why we also see him get caught off guard multiple times. There's this brilliant predestination effect. Eren sees himself commit this mass genocide which depresses him which causes him to isolate himself from his friends. His initial attempts to try to prevent that future are perhaps what cause the events to unfold in a way to guarantee that future. Time is a flat circle. On a side note - keep up the amazing content!
Spoilers below This is definitely what I am gathering from after reading the manga, but what I’m not so sure is - does Eren, at any point, realize the outcome of the rumbling? Aka his death? Because if so, I don’t think he would want to continue that path knowing he is certain to die.
@@cloningpc9271 he was certain to die from the very moment he inherited the attack Titan. Remember the curse of Ymir that only allows titan shifters to live up to 13 years after the first activation? Eren had only 4 years left before the rumbling. He either died and let Eldia and his friends die soon after, or destroy the whole world save a few and the entirety of Eldia and he dies a villain unifying the remains of the world, making Armin a neo-Helos
@@cloningpc9271 He learns the outcome as soon as he gains full control of the Founding Titan. This titan has full reign over space and time, causing Eren to lose all distinction of time and see the past, present and future concurrently. Since he saw how things would play out from that point, he could not do anything to change it as it was the direct future.
@@_jp_0966 The only reason he only had 4 years to live is because Ymir died after 13 years of getting her powers and nobody can surpass the founder. However, after Ymir relinquishes her power, she passes on and Eren becomes th TRUE Founding Titan. He IS the founder and in a sense, he surpassed her because he could choose. He had his own Will. Ymir didnt. While Eren was always bound to rumble the world, he at least could choose HOW he ends up there. The curse doesnt affect him anymore.
It seemed more pulled out of ass to me considering how much the universe was expanded so quickly. Easy to consider it since this was supposed to be a one shot, tragedy, everyone dies manga
@Mysterio1412 No, it wasn't pulled from his ass, really not, season 1 is full of foreshadowing for the "time traveling", and specially in the manga, you can see in the manga that grisha looks not at eren but at the door where we know now that future eren was there
Erens been doing that since he beat Annie for the first time 😂, nearly eats Annie, locks down Reiner multiple times, has Bertolht fed to Armins pure titan after cutting off all his limbs, forces the jaw titan to crush the war hammer after brutalising him, beats the absolute shit out of Armin while insulting him (but he had only good intentions and hated hated himself for doing it) beats the jaw and armoured titan again and then absorbs Zeke body to become the founding titan, he bullies almost all of them except the cart, Ymir’s jaw titan, also the new Jaw, also he beats up Armin as a colossal in the manga aswell after losing his main founding form
Sad fact: Grisha was telling Zeke to stop Eren but he still gives Eren the attack titan and there’s a reason for it, when giving Eren the titan serum, he tells Eren to avenge Carla, when he saw Zeke he did not yet know Carla was killed, his pain outweighed the fear he had for Erens plans and actually seems to have understood what he must’ve thoughts Erens reason for all of it was
No. Eren sees the future through his connection to Ymir. She is the puppet master pulling the strings the entire time. The very first episode is titled “to you, 2000 years in the future,” and opens with eren receiving a vision of the upcoming destruction BEFORE he gets the attack titan. Ymir is guiding his course the entire time and is the reason he sees the future.
@@icomeinpeace3756I guess it has to do with Mikasa loving him. It was already set in stone that his father would escape Marley and enter Paradis so maybe Ymir saw this as the chance to use someone to steal founding Titan from the royal family and set her free. The only problem is Grisha didn't have the will to kill so she used Eren to manipulate Grisha then when he gained the founding from his father it would set everything in motion for Eren to start the rumbling which would force Mikasa to kill him and hence set her free. It's messed up but as Eren said he's a slave to freedom. He was born to set the Eldians and Ymir free.
I actually don't think that the attack Titan itself has the ability to see future memories. It's future Eren who's sending specific memories to all past attack Titan shifters and that's why the attack Titan has the attack Titan has the specific character of always moving forward and fighting for freedom. That's Eren's as well as Ymir's will.
It is ironic that knowing the future robbed him of his freedom. No matter what he did, the outcome could never change. He was trapped - a bird in a cage.
@@Razzletazle bro every attack titan had that grisha had it before being founding titan and owl/eren kruger also had it as he knew the name of mikasa and armin
The attack titan user can't see into the future you have to send a memory back and let a user look back at a past user who youvsent memories to and let them see it. Eren did this by sending memories to Grisha, and when Eren kissed Historias' hand, he saw the memory of Grisha getting memories, and that's how he saw the future.
basically the story unfolded and eren was at the end of it and due to that, every previous attack titan was influenced and history was "re-written" to give a favorable end to eren. definitely not what everyone thinks that eren is just "bad" and a mass murderer like nah, y'all pushed him to do it☠️
Yumir's pain was so strong that she distributed her power, and only gave one titan the power to see the future. So that this titan becomes her revenge and Eren responds ❤😢
Personally I feel the Warhammer more 2nd strongest attack Titan would be third. Like Warhammer can potentially take down the collosal Titan when you really think about it.
@@Dark_Trap998 bro it's unfair to even involve the founder Titan it's not a battle no strategy it's just a command and you follow. But everybody else now free game. I see the war hammer dropping the colossal
You explained it wrong, Attack Titan has the power to SEND memories to past inheritors. Eren never ever saw any future memories, he saw what Eren in future decided to show Grisha, and through seeing past memories of Grisha he saw what future Eren wanted his younger self to see. That is counterintuitive but super clear if you analyze it. It is 100% consistent because Eren was far from knowing every detail of the future, he was just going along and things were just happening and he trusted things would sort out by themselves. It is a deterministic universe the universe of AoT.
@@icomeinpeace3756 That is a good question I had looked into in the past but don't remember fully, but I got this: First things first, jus to be clear but I think you acknowledge this, the Attack Titan power was not triggered at that moment at all, Eren had witnessed Grisha memories before that. But the answer you are looking for is simply because royal blood shenanigans + having Founder, I mean just before the rumbling started because of Zeke being in touch with Eren the Attack Titan power was giga-busted for instance and Founder has much better memory control or accessing memories of others and self in general (like Frida erasing Historia memories for example) and at full power it can blend past, present and future like how the paths works (btw paths has also to do with memories, that is why the Attack Titan power even exists). It is somewhat counter-intuitive but the author did had inspiration coming from thinking about how Determinism would work for a killer, which is why it is important to understand that Eren would only do what he did no matter what and he was "born this way". SnK has very strongly this "already born special" or meant for this and that in its philosophy anyways.
@@icomeinpeace3756 Eren certainly is the character with most misunderstanding among the fans, for instance, a lot of people think that Eren was being fake and sarcastic when talking with Reiner in Liberio just to punish him, which is very far from truth, the author would never waste so many pages in lines for something like that, he was being 100% honest, but the think is, despite all that, Eren will "keep moving forward". Watch that vid for that and more, it is actually good :)
@@icomeinpeace3756 Btw dude, in the paths while confronting Zeke, Eren says: "Yes, four years ago I have seen my own future through Dad's memories. What a sight it was" He was talking about the kiss on Historia hand moment, he was unlocking memories of past inheritors of his Titan. This can happen with any Titan shifter, but especially with the founder and royal blood, remember how Uri changed his mind as soon as he ate his father about using the founder titan? He knew why his father refused to do so, or even, he couldn't. What I mean with all this, is that hand kiss has nothing to do with Attack Titan power like I said before. It is something else, seeing his Dad's memories. The Attack Titan power is to send memories to past inheritors, it is basically the opposite of every other Titan seeing memories of past inheritors. You know how Galliard talks about Reiner and Ymir moments he had seen glimpses? The Attack Titan can send glimpses of things in the future to the past. What Eren went through is both ways, Eren seen the future only through Grisha memories, that is why it is so important to understand Eren didn't know about everything, not even close, he had seen very limited stuff, he just knew it was going to happen one way or the other, that is why in season 4 he is never worried about anything not working out somehow even if it meant people like Sasha dying, which he was very frustrated and sad about because he didn't know that would happen at all.
If I were Eren, I would at least try to change the future. And even if it wasn't possible, I would at least try just to see how much I could change just to have it thrown back at me like it didn't matter.
I sometimes believe the Attack Titan users can't see the future because it is its specific power. Maybe only Eren is able to do so as he is in possession of the Founding TItan, being able to see Grisha's memories and sending these diractly to Grisha as well. So, if Annie for example had the Founding Titan, she probably could do the same if she is in contact with someone royal
If the attack titans most powerful ability is to see through time, why is it called the attack titan rather than the time/vision titan or smth? I’ve always wondered that
So it wouldn't have be spoilt If we had clues from season 1 itself we wouldn't have gotten this insane plot twist showing the true side and intention of eren
So if the paths exists in the separate dimension, and even though Ymir has been “defeated” wouldn’t the paths itself still exist? The idea of a whole other dimension sounds crazy, so I suppose it could just be destroyed because we don’t really know how it would work firsthand because who’s traveling to another dimension??
Eren's destiny was sealed from the start. Side note, Erwin was right when he said Eren was the only one who could save them.
Adding time-travel aspect to what is already a complex plot/nature(tragedies of war, politics & propaganda) made an incoherent and weak written motivation for Eren. They could have added another 2 season to "show not tell" scenes to establish a believable cause considering Eren himself is the instigator. Also similar to what happened to GOT by seemingly adding to many characters with short backstory and suddenly the writer/creator(of the tv series) forgot they only have few episodes left. I am curious what is the original idea of Isayama. Having to change and revise a few to fit those "fans" can devoid its real and coherent intent. I wont be surprised of there is another remake of this like a directors cut.
also this is kinda obvious but it was foreshadowed when the owl told grisha to save mikasa and armin then grisha asks who that is & the owl says “i dont know, they’re not from my memories”
I love when people call it time travel when it's literally just seeing memories. These powers are like Dr. Manhattan's where time isn't linear in their point of view
He also showed the rumbling that why his father asked Zik to stop eren but as he finds out his wife were killed and what happened to his town and people he again was on Eden’s side and wants eren to make that Futter to come true that’s why he gave eren his life to give him the attacking titan and founding titan (that’s my theory)
I kinda see it as ymir getting her founding titan power and eren getting his attack titan power 2000 years in the future are directly connected events. A person like eren to liberate Ymir was her wish, so she paved the way in time and space for Eren to inherit the titan power and all the attack titans previously eren had control over by being able to send memories to them, and thus eren has probably looped time around many times testing different scenarios.
Also on ep 1 when eren is under the tree the dream he had was future eren sending past eren memories which is why he asks about mikasas hair bc it has been short for so long
I like the theory that the reason the attack titan isn't controlled by the founder and continue to fight for freedom no matter how many generations is because it was Eren controlling past wielders or i guess sharing his feelings to fight till the time finally caught to Eren.
people never really talk about the scene from episode 1, grisha looks terrified not because he sees eren but because he sees himself. probably just yet again confirming the future that’s going to happen for him
Eren basically turned into a god.. he can manipulate timelines and lived through all the possibles timelines .. and yet this is the best possible outcome ( just imagine 😂) .. he wanted to save his mother and yet he is the one that killed his mother .. because of the past his actions created this possible future timeline and because of this future timeline it created the past that created the future timeline ( as he said that past and future are all in one time in his head ) .. basically god must live trillions of years in a blink and must blink in trillions of years (damn) .. god must be an insane sad bastard ( if this being or entity exists)
It’s easy to see the past and future when you’re in a place where time has no meaning. The Paths exist outside of time. And for some reason the Attack Titan can view other user’s lives. While the other Shifters inherit the memories of their predecessors like loading backup drives onto a new computer, the Attack Titan gets access to a higher plain of existence to see it. Ymir is the one that builds each and every Titan’s body. She sees EVERY Titan throughout time at once. Her soul endlessly toiling as she sculpts them. Which being the original Titan makes sense. She would also have the abilities of the Attack Titan. Perhaps just not willing to correct the course of events like Eren. As she’s still devoted to her master. If you reference the 9 Realms of Norse Mythology, how they’re displayed/mapped on Yggdrasil the World Tree, Midgard is shown as the base of the tree. Or at least the main trunk depending on which illustration you look at. Since the 9 Titans are a reference to these realms, perhaps the Attack Titan is Midgard. The center of it all. Nestled between the branches and roots. This is why it has special access to its past and future. The Founding Titan would be Asgard, the highest point of the tree. Only able to see below. So not even the successors of Ymir would be able to see both directions in time.
Y’all still aren’t getting it-this is not the power of the attack titan. That was just grishas theory. In reality it’s just eren sending specific memories to all of the attack titan users of the past. while he’s in the paths with zeke and afterwards when he has full control of the founder he can control everything and send memories to whoever he wants, past and present. That’s why grisha only saw specific parts of the rumbling, didn’t see Karla’s death, ect. Eren chose not to send those memories
Headcannon: Though I agree with this idea, the onky thing I would add is that Grisha or Eren could not enter act with the future/past simply because of their ability. However Eren could directly influence his dad because he held the Founding Titan. Then Grisha could then touch Zeke once he stole the Founding Titan.
Iirc attack titan holders can ONLY see future memories. Eren and grisha can communicate because they’re in the unique situation of seeing past memories via the founding titan and seeing future memories via the attack titan
Its a weird one, it's more like that the founding titan would ultimately fuse with the attack titan. Do to this fusion and that the attack titan user Eren would screw with time influence, that there's a sort of bleed effect of the founding titans power.
Good job. But I'd like to add My theory. Attack Titan is just a normal Titan with motives of achieving freedom due to Eren's Influence throughout 2000 years. As he says, He was never influenced by anyone, He was always like this. And about The time travel, It's just a 1 in a million possibility that Eren was the one with Founding Titan but no Royal blood. Everyone can acess It's past shifters Memories, But eren had the acess to Founding Titan so he was able to send the memories to people and control everything to reach his Goal. so in the end, Attack titan can see the future, but it's not an ability of his otherwise Zeke should have known this. It's just "Ch 139 Founding Titan Eren jeager" who happened to have Both Attack titan and Founding Titan, and he chose to Manipulate his dad by sending him some certain memories and other subjects by controlling them, just like he controlled Dina Titan.
Yes, i dont think they physically travel through time itself, but like you said Eren is just sending memories to his dad. I think people confuse because it looks like they do
I think the power of attack titan is the ability to *receive* the memories of the future inheritor but for one to send the memories back they must get in contact will the founding titan power so my hypothesis is that Eren only send his memories back to Kruger and Grisha when Ymir assisted him.
I always assumed since the future Ehren had full control of ymir and her ability to affect any titan ever since she lives in a place beyond time (she personally makes every titan from sand every single time) he could manipulate events accordingly. Not that the attack titan had this power, but that ehren was always there, he could influence them to achieve his goals. I hate time travel, never makes sense because it always makes paradoxes
Not really, the AOT does not allow to "send" memories to past wielders, Neither Kruger, nor Grisha ever did or mentioned that. They had the ability to SEE memories from "future wielders" It is even up to debate if it's really "Future Wielders" or if it's only "Eren Yeager". What would advocate in Eren's "uniqueness" is that he is the only AOT person to have: 1. The AOT and 2. The Founding and 2.5 The Warhammer (probably irrelevant) 3. Consciously reached the "Path Dimension" 4. Be embarked on a trip to the past by a Royal non subjugated to Friz's will 4.5 Convinced Ymir to obey him (probably irrelevant as we see him influence the past BEFORE convincing Ymir) The AOT would then have for single power its combat abilities, and Eren influence of the past due to his unique circumstance HAVE MISTAKENLY LED wielder to believe the AOT could access "Future wielders" memories, while in fact, they are only Eren's.
This is a good way to quickly explain it but I’m guessing a lot of people are still going to be confused as the why Eren is the way he is, took me so long to understand his character.
So original Eren sends memories back in time to prevent the situation and it's just rinse and repeat with the next Eren's trying to find the best course of action. Are they all their own seperate timeline that continues or do they get erased? How do they get erased? My mind can't comprehend things like this 😅
Vague spoilers for the ending: I also go the impression that Eren was able to see an alternative timeline but that was somehow something that Ymir had done in order to push the story in a way that would let her be freed fully. So Eren was manipulating his old self, but Ymir’s champion wasn’t actually Eren by the end
Well how does the attack inheritors see future. It's because Eren is the founding Titan and he used founding titan powers to transfer memories to his past attack titan inheritors. That's why attack titan always seeks freedom.
Im still very confused by how the 1st Future Eren came to be. Lets say we have "Our Eren" the kid we see in the 1st episode, and future Eren who guided the smiling titan to kill his own mother. Did this future Eren go through something different than "our Eren" in another timeline?
I know im 4 months late. Someone correct me if im wrong but from what i understood yes there was some minor different endings and different timelines. Eren in the last talk with Armin said himself that the past, present and future happen all at the same time when hes using the fouding Titan powers and that he tried to get different endings but it was all pointless because the rumbling always happens regardless because the future in attack on titan universe is predeterminated so instead of trying to fight it he just embraced it and did it with the best possible outcome in that scenario that benefited Eldia and his friends
Hot take: we have no evidence in the series to suggest that Eren tried to change the future he saw when he kissed Historia’s hand. He says this was the only way to Armin, but we see no remorse when he’s actually executing the rumbling in the Paths and no scenes showing him actually being stuck in a loop of his own creation unable to alter events or course correct. Change my mind
Well this isn't really time travel in the typical sense. This is mostly a time loop, seeing as it was never used to change history, rather it made history in the first place
If the ability of the attack Titan is to peer into the future, that to me says free will is an illusion, and nothing could have prevented Eren becoming who he was, and that there is some higher power guiding all of these events. OR even crazier, all of the events Grisha witnessed from the future already happened, and they’re trapped in a time loop. You can’t create something from nothing, and that includes memories of the past or future. My guess is the events already happened, and the timeline we witnessed is not the “original” timeline that began the loop. Otherwise how could the future have been known before Eren was even born? Shit is so mind blowing.
There is only one timeline. There's no timeloop as well. It's a linear timeline where Attack Titan's + Founder's abilities created a paradox where the future memories is part of the past history. So the scene where future Eren influenced past Grisha is the only timeline, there has been no other timeline where Grisha never ate the royal family, like Zeke had mentioned.
@@internet_warlord no I completely understand there is no alternate timeline where the royal family was never eaten, what I am saying is that the future Eren saw, had to have been written in stone way before even grisha was born. It could have been when Ymir was eaten and her powers split, or it began with Ymir herself. What I’m saying is that no matter what, the future with Eren couldn’t have been avoided, which gives reason that it’s either Free will being an illusion and that there is a set defined future that can’t be deviated from, OR that all of it has happened before, including the birth of ymir and her acquiring Titan powers. Basically like wheel of time where the world in stuck in a cycle
@@danielduggan526 yeah, basically the whole timeline of events is already set in stone and just waiting to unfold through time. I just replied because your guess was "the timeline we witnessed is not the original..." But it's the only original one.
Guys, can anyone explain? , when grisha was about to be turned into a Titan, when kurger saved him and gave him the attack titan, he inherited the attack titan, right? So if frieda actually had the attack Titan, what the hell was grisha's titan? Ive always thought it was the beast titan untill they said Tom Ksaver was the old beast titan. So can anyone explain?
So I’m this case who was the first “Eren” this causes a paradox if you think about it Eren manipulated everything so who was the first Eren to have done so if one can see the future and play the past to his liking
Im always so confused about this, how can Grisha communicate with future Eren if the future is yet to be? It doesnt exist yet so how can a future eren who doesnt exist YET communicate with the present.
I havent read the mana just fyi.. i just had some thought when watching this... The attack titan can see into the future with the future inheritors memories, its said that the attack titan will always fight for freedom from opporessors just like eren has, his whole character is about fighting for freedom and he is the ultimate free titan, but then is it not a slave to its memories, it knows what will happen and how to get there, but will never have a choice of his own, its shown that eren hates people who arent free but doesnt see that the attack titan has dictated every move he has ever made. And where did these powers come from, Ymir, ymirs characteristics are in every titan and her willingness to to not be a slave is within the attack titan. ymir is in control, not eren.
Present Eren saw future Eren tell past Greisha to kill Freida and her family, so that he could kill everyone in the future future. Hows that for a mindfuck?
