The retriever kennel you got for a brooder pen, make sure you put it off the ground on concrete or wood & put a roof over it. They rust fast, I have em for dog pens & I had to do all that so they would last longer. Just an idea

I got mauled by a cow getting close to her calf, knocked me down, head butted, and almost broke my foot. Wondered what the heck was wrong with her then figured out the dog was behind me. I’ve noticed after that she really hates dogs and chases them every time they get close

Had a similar situation. A cow was charged me, and I realized she was after the dog hiding behind me. I gave the dog a little "git" nudge, and the cow changed direction. Phew!

Cody do you plan on putting bows in the alley ? Just an idea to keep those long straight run from wanting to lay over. I know they are pain some times but some kickers outside the back of the alley would help. I just say that because any moisture in the ground those steers will keep it stirred up and the ground loose. On our bunk feeders we installed a pipe like your were talking about. But we made ours were you could move it to 2 hights depending on how big the steers are. Our wagyu steer were on feed for a while so the bunk could grow with them.

Old timers around me never tagged they always knew I don’t judge due to off site town jobs I did metal tag a few one left found the box from USDA tags mailed in 93 that’s how I knew. Plus old timers cows were all different colors best of luck. Now discuss why raising cattle while having a 1099 job pls sir thanks

Yeh definitely easier to know who belongs to who is crossbred cattle! Why do we raise cattle and have full time off ranch jobs? We are first generation ranchers. We started from scratch so we haven't grown to the production of being able to quit our full time jobs and only ranch. We hope to hand that legacy down to our children or grandchildren! Lots of ranchers have other full time jobs as well. Its pretty common.

I have a small herd (cowcaine habit) and work with nearly 500 momma's, and their calves, and the bought background calves, + a few hundred acres of crop and hay land. I used to Dairy for myself, so this job is FUN!

Nah give her a day or two and she will calm down. You want them to be a little crazy to keep buzzards off the calf for the first day. I do understand what you are talking about if she is crazy like that all the time. We raise Brahman influence cattle. So we know crazy. Lol

Some useful info, stock pens should not have corners. If you ever need to borrow money let your wife apply as a minority she qualify's easily and with lower interest.
