Attacking with the Scandinavian Defense might sound oxymoronic, but it wasn't exactly moronic!

why is the scandanavian not considerad a good opening yet people play it?
@thelordananas1741
@thelordananas1741 6 лет назад
good question! I am also interested since some top players play also the scandi from time to time.
@seikosaucisse6989
@seikosaucisse6989 6 лет назад
Makavelit0t0 It's a correct opening but if white plays well, he will often obtain a very good position with no risks, and i think that's why the scandinavian hasn't a good reputation at high level, but it's completely playable (Sorry if I made some mistakes, my english is not very good)
@thelordananas1741
@thelordananas1741 6 лет назад
@@seikosaucisse6989 But isnt that always the case for every opening...? Or do you mean, that for relativ good players this particular opening is too easy to play from the white perspective and thats the reason its not played so often? Maybe my question is silly but that may be because I have no real experience at all with the scandi... Also,... is it difficult to reach with the scandi the middle game...??? I am still looking for a black repertoire where one can reach most of the time some okay middlegame position with no risks and danger of some malicious opening traps. :D
@seikosaucisse6989
@seikosaucisse6989 6 лет назад
The Lordananas Yes, it's really easy to play for white, i've played the scandi for one year and it's difficult to win against weaker players, and against stronger players, they will have a safe position where they can press you whithout any risk. White has more space and easy plans. But it's not a bad opening at all, you have a solid position and I think that you can play it at all levels, it's just not very ambitious. But it's my opinion, try it to see yourself and play what you like, it's the most important !

@Eric Rosen - I'm no expert, but I keep wondering why is the Scandi is considered a good defense. Queen is attacked multiple times while White keeps developing. Change my mind....all I know is that at my feeble ~ 1100 rating, the stats say I'm beating the Scandi handily.

Okay, so at 3:43 (on move 8), instead of castling, the best move for white is Rd2. That's what Stockfish plays. At that point, black has only one move that doesn't lose instantly: Qb3. If you try to prepare a prettier looking escape for the Queen, by playing c3 first, you lose (Stockfish says +2.5, because white has killer tactics, exploiting the fact that black has no time to bring both the queen and rook to safety) So I would bet that you can win 90% of your games as white, when black develops the rook to g4 and you play the verboden, unconscionable f3 in response. Unless you're playing a master or higher, black is not gonna figure all this out. He'll just play c3, because it looks safer AND it fits in with the plan to use the Queen to attack along the diagonal, later.

@jeremycontreras6229
@jeremycontreras6229 3 года назад
If he moved rook to g5 it would put it in an awkward position where if white moves the pawn down, it threatens the rook. Moving the knight to e4 would also threaten it as well.

3:30 It seems like a threat but I don't think there are lines that can use that threat. Basically its a "mistake" moving the queen after that move. Even in this game we saw what happened just a bunch of time wasted to trade the bishops
